This has become a huge issue in the recent political scene in U.S.A. I give you two opinions
Trump says that let them use whichever restroom they are comfortable with. He further said that building a third bathroom for transgender would be a huge cost for businesses which is not feasible.
Cruz said that he can’t imagine a person who may look like a woman but functionally a man, walking behind his 5 years old daughter into a public restroom.
Keep religion aside in this issue. Just morally and human rights standpoint, which side you are on? Or do you have a third option in your mind?
Re: Public restrooms for transgenders / transvestites
I think they should combine all bathrooms.
ok j/k.
Since the time Supreme court issued decision in favour of LGBTs, the republicans (conservatives) state governments have been all over to make sure they curb LGBTs by any means instead of resolving the original issues. Why? They are full of sh!t and hatred as we can see all over.
Re: Public restrooms for transgenders / transvestites
so does that mean that women's washrooms would need to have urinals installed?
that's gross......
big huge no from me.
use the bathroom that suits your anatomy I don't care what you look like or what you want to be.
It is my understanding trasgender means one who has changed his or her sex or gender. So if a man has changed to woman the woman should be allowed to use woman's bathroom.
The rethugs are demanding g that person shoukd use bathroom corresponding to gender of birth.

There r no 2 sides to this issue. Whatever organ the person is fitted with at the time of bathroom usage dictates the bathroom said person shall be allowed to do the bodily functions and obligations.

So now we gonna have an organ police checking people's genitals before letting them in a restroom?
Re: Public restrooms for transgenders / transvestites
Yes, we don't have such checks now cause we don't have "manly" women walking into ladies restrooms
What exactly do you mean? Transgenders are those who have had a sex change. They have female organs if sex change is from man to woman.
also, if the person walking in has a vagina, how will the "organ checking police" prevent them from using the ladies room. So are you now calling for a checking police that checks qualitatively for manliness or womanliness?

.
Southie, you crack me up. You supposedly be the biggest minority right activist on GS, yet you just made a most discriminatory argument from a transgender's point of view. You only consider those a transgender, who have surgery performed on them? You give that definition to a transgender and he/she will take it as an offense. Because there are many who don't think that an anatomy change is required to recognize them as a transgender. For them, a transgender is a transgender, be it a post op or pre op.

It would be a discriminatory argument if I refuted what you stated. Else it is simply lack of awareness. I don't claim to be an expert on this issue. And am open to learn. I will check this and get back.
My views are unchanged. If a person identifies as a woman, that person uses the ladies room. Period.
What is discriminator is making fun of them such as “checking for manly women entering the ladies room”. Such comments are mocking, and are not appropriate, IMO.
Re: Public restrooms for transgenders / transvestites
My viewpoint is that a transgender person should use whichever restroom they feel comfortable using. As you pointed out TLK, transgender includes both pre-op and post-op situations. Transitioning from a male to female or vice versa is not something that happens overnight. It’s a process that can take years. A transgender person simply can’t walk into a surgeon’s office and change their anatomy. Its a slow and long process that involves taking hormones for months (if not years) to slowly change outward appearance. The transgender person must start living as the gender they’re going to transition into. The sex reassignment surgery is the very final step in the process. Keep in mind that none of the hormone treatments or the surgery is cheap and insurance doesn’t cover it so people also must be able to pay for it on their own which also often causes delay in the process.
Because of how complex the “change” can be, I will post two links at the end of my post which highlight how ridiculous it is to expect a transgender person to use the restroom that matches the genitals as opposed to what they look like. I don’t know any woman who could be comfortable if someone who looked like the man in the first link walked into the woman’s restroom…even if “he” had a vagina. Would Cruz be comfortable if he saw the bearded man in the first link walk behind his daughter into the restroom? On the flip side, I feel confident in saying that it would cause a scene if the woman in the second link walked inside a men’s restroom even if she still has a penis.
I honestly don’t understand what the issue is. As a woman, I don’t go into a woman’s restroom and walk around naked. I go in, get inside a stall, do my thing and get out. In Houston, we have a lot of places where the restrooms are unisex. I have yet to hear about a child or woman being assaulted by a man in these bathrooms. I have no idea where these safety concerns comes from. I am not aware of any studies (or even individual situations) where a transgender person went into a woman’s restroom and molested a child or sexually assaulted/raped a woman. Cruz and everyone else never attaches any FACTS to these fears.
What’s ironic is that even though there has not been a slew of cases where transgender people are molesting/raping women inside women’s restrooms…TONS of cases out there show evidence that transgender people themselves are victims of violence. Anyone who thinks that a transgender person who looks like the woman in the 2nd link would be 100% safe inside a men’s restroom is delusional.
