Re: Public restrooms for transgenders / transvestites
It's not transgender people who may rape someone in ladies restroom, it's some psycho who would dress up as a woman to try to enter ladies room, and you can't stop him until it's too late, cause stopping a manly woman to enter ladies room is discriminatory.
Now that is what I call protecting minorities rights by ignoring majorities rights

Not much of a different argument from Trump who wants to ban all Muslim immigration. Because he too wants to protect the majorities rights.
If a psycho wants, he can do the same today. Dress as a woman and do what he wants to do.
As I stated earlier, what you are advocating is real discrimination. The language used by the right wing is exactly what you have used.
Re: Public restrooms for transgenders / transvestites
Southie and Paheli, I am not advocating discrimination. In this thread, I am just being a devil's advocate. But the fear is real. What Cruz said is what every parent would feel in such situation.
And I want to be honest with you, I even understand the reason of fear from Muslims. Forget about whites, I don't fully trust middle eastern Muslims. Trump's proposal could be questioned, but you can't question the fear. Similarly, you cant question the fear that Cruz stated. Fear comes out things that are not normal or are unknown. Transgenders using ladies toilet is not a norm. It may take sometime for public to digest it. You just can't shove it down someone's throat in the name of civil rights

Like you, I also understand the fear from Muslims. But there is a big difference between the transgender bathroom issue and fear of Muslims. As I said earlier, there is no basis for the fear against transgenders. I agree that the fear is real...but it has no basis. Fear against Muslims on the other hand....with all the suicide bombings and CA shooting (BTW, as you know, they were desis).......I don't blame American society a bit.
I agree that it will take people to get used to it. Unfortunately, shoving it down their throat is what it's going to take. Look at the civil rights movement a few decades ago and the backlash against desegregation. If the laws didn't change to shove it down the throats of those who were against it, who knows where we would be today. Anytime big changes like this have taken place, desegregation/gay marriage etc., it's never been pretty. But eventually the waves settle down and people move on. The same thing will happen with this bathroom issue.
Re: Public restrooms for transgenders / transvestites
How so?
One group simply wants wants freedom to use the bathroom of their choice. That is, they want to live a normal life.
The Ted Cruz followers and like minded folks don't want to grant this freedoms to first group. Thus denying them right to live normal life.
That at is the classic Right Wing Don't tread on me attitude, while the Right wing treads on others right to live a normal life.
The only was the argument goes both ways is if the first group denies the rights of the second group to go to the bathroom of their choice. Which to the best of my knowledge, the first group has not done.
Re: Public restrooms for transgenders / transvestites
How the humanity is moving forward.
I wonder in 10-20 years what would be discussions relating to genders/re-production.
I wonder when Hollywood going to have a transgender he and a transgender she, as hero and heroin.
I wonder in that case us movie junkies, who do we admire?
She who used be actual he.
Him who used be she.
What about he who feels she is a she... How do we admire them ?
We need some crash courses to improve our esthetic sense.
Re: Public restrooms for transgenders / transvestites
i cant imagine cruz walking behind me to ... anywhere.
and really folks - i dont care who uses the bathroom as long as they dont stink it up and make a mess. i get it guys have trouble aiming, but how can you be bad at aiming poo?
Re: Public restrooms for transgenders / transvestites
Things just keep getting worse day by day. Atleast the restroom issue would have been simpler if not for these Trans-this and Trans-that people.
Doesnt anyone else feel that TRANS issue has been on the rise in the past decade or two. I mean 20 years ago if a boy had said to his dad, I really feel like a woman, his dad would've slapped him back to his senses and we wont be having this issue.
Anyhow, as for potential solution, a third bathroom is probably the best option. We dont have to label it Trans-restroom, just the term "bathroom" would be ok. A ONE-PERSON facility, where one can take care of their business without the need to be "qualified" with any gender.
Re: Public restrooms for transgenders / transvestites
I wouldn't be comfortable with someone with a penis using a women's toilet or a women's changing rooms. And I don't believe with the ladypenis theory. A penis is a male organ. Why don't they campaign for separate transgender toilets or unisex toilets even just like the disabked people campaigned to have their own spaces. No they have to push their way into female spaces.

If you're going to make an analogy between the current situation and the American Disabilities Act (ADA) and the history behind that, then please take the time to educate yourself about the ADA. Disabled people never campaigned to "have their own spaces".
Re: Public restrooms for transgenders / transvestites
This has become a huge issue in the recent political scene in U.S.A. I give you two opinions
Trump says that let them use whichever restroom they are comfortable with. He further said that building a third bathroom for transgender would be a huge cost for businesses which is not feasible.
Cruz said that he can't imagine a person who may look like a woman but functionally a man, walking behind his 5 years old daughter into a public restroom.
Keep religion aside in this issue. Just morally and human rights standpoint, which side you are on? Or do you have a third option in your mind?
I don't know.
The thing that comes to my mind..... what if one day out of the blue, my coworker decides to use the women's restroom because he feels like a woman now??
I go to the gym and use the locker room to change and get ready and stuff. Lots of women walk around various stages of being dressed, what's to stop a male from walking in and using that space because "I feel like a woman"? (and no I'm not at all owrried about Lesbian women being in there or obvious transitioning women in there).
I admit I haven't been embroiled in this debate, but this is what comes to my mind. I wonder what the counter argument is to that?
