What stops devote Muslims living in the US to drink alcohol? **

I would like to engage this statement which is, in my opinion, more applicable to an open society and not a theocratic society which Pakistan is not and so your question is correct for Pakistan, too.

Oops...pressed return too soon. Ment to add on that now is not the time. Wife is telling in no uncertain terms to gett off the freakin' computer. So, until next time.....whenever that is.
I agree there is no ideal society and never will be..and porstitution was there, is there and will be there.
There was not a single period Isalmic or other when prostitution does`t exsit its like good and eveil if one will die there is no need of other,so instead of making and taking useless actions accept it (not like thailand or singapoor) but give them what they deserve(In islam stabbing is not only for porsituate but also for the male offender)
Tazz: Do you know when the girls were returned from India how many were accepted by their families? not many few,and rest of them ended in MANDII so in Islamic country what happened to them they ended in MANDII, they were rejected by there fathers brothers, how they were suppose to live ? and get two time meal .....by the same profession which you are so aganist off.
Instead of destroying them or trying to abolish them(which they cant be)help them give them jobs give them respect and they wont be doing it! but who will give them respect and job I`m sure you are not one of them.
You know its a ludicrous idea to terminate any problem by eradicating the people involved; that does not solve any problems. Economy and finances go hand in hand with problems like this, and off course lust and greed. Burning those who practice this profession, by will or force, will only lead to surfacing of new prostitutes; as the fore-mentioned underlying causes will still be there. Until we get rid of lust, greed and poverty, this problem will always be there. Personally, I do believe in Utopia, perhaps even for a few seconds, and we can take care of such problems in that moment to the least.
I have thought about it some more. Basically I'd give brownie points to TAZZ and some others. If we, as a society, agree that prostitution or any such activity has a negative impact on the community, then make it harder for people. We will not be able to eliminate it completely, but will reduce the instance. The mere fact that we can not eliminate something should not stop anyone from taking steps to minimize it.
I still am not convinced if killing/stoning all of them or burning down the mohalla is the right approach. Rule of law should prevail.
However if someone says that availability of prostitutes in a society is somehow beneficial, then they should come forward with their point of view.
A place where girls sing-and-dance for money, and then willingly engage in sex with customers is unislamic ab initio. No question about it. But is everything in Pakistan truly islamic to begin with?
No, I am not saying it in terms of whether it will make it right or not, cz it won't. What I am saying is, do people in Pakistan really care? Do they feel prostitution is a serious enough problem to warrant more strict enforcement of law?
Kill all the prostitutes and the one visiting the prostitute.
Don't defend the ILLS of a society.
For those who think Pakistan was made for Muslims... please make corrections, Pakistan was made for Landlords, Waderas, Choudhrys to rule as they wish on a land where Muslims live in abundance. LAW shall NOT be ISLAMIC.
Prostitution is here to stay. Those who have accessed it, enjoy it and those who for one reason or another, cannot access it, come to me for a "Fatwah" against it.
) I forgot about this post of mine hence no reply till now.
I have hardly seen any of Pakistan and what I know about Heera Mandi was all from hearsay only and the films!
The classic role of the tawaif I knew about–as a belles lettres and courtesan for the Muslim (and non Muslim) aristocracy–from reading etc.
So, it seems from what you guys have written that it is prevalent in Pakistan throughout and not just Heera Mandi. Heck, it sounds like most of you are of the opinion that the girls in HM are not that great either.
Very interesting…btw, if you are hanging around the khotas isn’t it kind of obvious what you are there for?
Also, in the posh areas like Defense and Clifton etc. how does one get services of a high class hooker if one does not have connections as it seems like you have to know the right people. I presume kerb-crawling is not allowed right?!
A website about prostitution around the world said that in Karachi and Lahore the top hotels are havens for prostitution and that for between 250 and 1000 US dollars you can be availed of the “services” of the top models and actresses in Pakistan and the best looking girls imaginable and that they will come to your hotel room! Is this true?
(I’ve never lived in a pakistani city so i do not know myself)
As for how to deal with it I agree with Jannu and Peacemaker. I’d bet that 99% of the girls who do it are in it out of necessity and not choice because the State does not provide for them and they have no males supporting them either–therefore how can you blame these girls? And killing them without first hand evidence is against Islam and barbaric. We are not the bloody Taliban (thank Allah!)–most Pakistanis follow a moderate Islam–traditional Islam!
A State education programme and rehabilitation programme would be good i think to get the girls off the streets…
But some will always be around…always have and always will be-- (even during the Golden Age of Islam they existed).
Ummmm..... I don't know. Many times I have seen single females standing near familiar intersections and near bus-stops at 10 or 11 at night. Possibly, they are just going somewhere and possibly they are prostitutes. You can always stop and ask. I never did! :)
And when you say 99% are not doing it by choice, maybe you are right. But I am not too sure. Some of them may take it like any other vocation/job. They work and they get paid. The moral, religious and ethical dilemmas may not bother some of them after a while, espcially if they had grown in that society.
It might be hard for some of you to digest but there are actually families living there in Shahi Mohalla, kids roam about, mothers and sisters and wives dance and 'work' in the evening well into the night. Its a way of life for those people. We may not understand completely how their mindset works.
Ofcourse this doesn't mean that there are not a whole lot of women there who are coerced into this profession and live a life of misery and shame. Go ahead and rescue them.
prostitutes in pakistan...hera mundi...well all i can imagine it to be, is what i've seen in some movies...umm i think recently...that movie with bobby deol and karishma...and the first one i saw that dealt with rundi's was baazi.
is it the money? i think not, unless they strut the side walks alone...not being pimped.
do they do it for drugs? in pakistan i thought it was chicks that got kidnapped.

Well burn the place down first, so we don't have a single area famous for Prostitution. And use the islamic law to treat both the men and women involved in it. And i mean use it in public. If it's the oldest profession does not mean it has to be excepted.
i wonder what they would all have to say now, about the state pakistans got into...forget prostitution, sex before marriage is a typical, daily activity for some so who needs prostitutes?

It may be a daily activity for you but not most of the Pakistanis living here
