MUMBAI: Popular Bollywood actor Preity Zinta has registered a complaint against co-owner of Indian Premier League (IPL) team Kings XI Punjab and ex-boyfriend Ness Wadia, alleging that he molested, abused and threatened her inside the Wankhede stadium in Mumbai, said a report published on the Times of India.

In a six-page complaint registered with the police, Zinta said: “I have known Ness Wadia for the last ten years and had a relationship with him. We ended our relationship some time back. Although we are co-owners of Kings XI Punjab, we only talk for professional reasons.”

She said they had not been talking to each for a while and in between, they also had some heated arguments regarding work during which he attempted to abuse her and used foul language. She said she had been humiliated in front of her friends, family and colleagues.

Zinta added that she had issued him a warning and told him she was not comfortable with such behaviour.

She moreover said Ness had insisted that she sit beside him during the IPL auction in Bangalore and had turned nasty when she refused to comply.

The incident mentioned in the complaint lodged with the police allegedly took place on May 30 at Mumbai Wankhede Stadium where their team was playing a match.

The bubbly actor said that Wadia was shouting at the team staff and she asked him to calm down.

She said that he started abusing and screaming at her, grabbed her arm and tried to pull her, adding that she vacated her seat as she did not want to create a scene.

Zinta alleged that he had used derogatory language, threatened her with dire consequences and also intimidated her by bragging about his political connections. He said he could make her vanish as she was a nobody and that he was a powerful person.

She said the incident had left her shattered and made her feel unsafe and ashamed as a woman. She added that she had immediately registered a verbal complaint with Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) officials that day.

According to the article, she is not referring to something that happened while they were together, not that it matters. I don't think it's appropriate to make light of molestation and abuse. If it happened to her, the charges should be taken seriously and addressed, as they should for anyone who is victimized in this manner.

Ness made a valid point though that she was surrounded by a barrage of security and body guards in a public place and even if he had wanted to assault or molest her it would have been near impossible. I’m sure there were a lot of witnesses since it was in public…I haven’t seen any mention of eye witness testimony :hmmm:

But I do agree with Sahar that molestation and abuse is not a laughing matter

I agree that people should not make light of molestation and abuse, but honestly, I think these words are thrown around rather cavalierly by the media. What was described simply sounds like verbal arguments, which although seem to have gotten rather heated and quite nasty, are not "abuse" or "molestation." Quite frankly, I think it is Ms. Zinta who is making light of abuse and molestation by using these very serious terms to describe verbal arguments with her ex.

For a smart girl, this is a pretty dumb move. Maybe she is trying to show off her degree in criminal psychology.

Contrast this with the coverage of rape in the media. It is the story of two Indias. In one the poor and powerless are raped, killed and hanged without any recourse. In the other mere verbal fights and threats against the rich and powerful are treated as 'molestation'.

Exactly.

And while we should not take abuse lightly, we should also not react emotionally without knowing the facts, only because a woman said so.

As for your last line, there are many women who mis-use these terms and blow out of proportion matters. Don't have to look far for examples. How many times in life1 has raising your voice to a woman been called abuse (to name one example).

The charge is that in addition to some pulling, her ex stated he can make her vanish thru his connections. If that was said it is a threat.

Yes. The poorer women who get raped should get justice. But that doesn't mean well to do people such as zinta should not be heard.

As to what is left to molest after 10 years, speaking in general, the time spent together is irrelevant to whether molestation occurred or not.

Re post she did this for money like other women, it is an example of how we jump to conclusions.

Right now facts r not out. Let the facts come out. Till then let us go to our respective corners and watch WC.

Stating you don't believe her or that you feel she is just trying to get attention/money, is one thing. Saying that the potential for molestation no longer exists simply because a couple has been consensual is messed up. Simply because someone may have said "yes" before doesn't mean that person has given up all authority over her/his body.

^ Quite agree.

I think what is quite tragic about this is that "abuse" gets thrown around so casually sometimes, such as to describe mere verbal arguments or raising one's voice, that it trivialises abuse and then genuine victims of abuse don't get taken seriously.

They broke up over 3 years ago. If she wanted to get back at him she'd do it much earlier. Why wait?
She has never seemed to be the attention seeker type to me, I mean this is the girl who testified against the underworld when no one else dared to!!!
I believe her!
The reaction to this case is just sad. This is why women in India don't report things like these, they're afraid no one will believe them!!! Being grabbed is NOT ok!!!
