PPP and the Emergency [merged]

Re: Benazir was taken into confidence about Emergency as part of deal

BB getting more stick from other opposition parties for her apparent collusion with the Emergency.

**Benazir knew about emergency, says Asghar
**
LAHORE: Tehrik-e-Istaqlal (TI) Chairman Air Marshal (retd) Asghar Khan on Sunday alleged that PPP Chairperson Benazir Bhutto was in league with President General Pervez Musharraf with regard to the imposition of emergency in the country. Addressing a press conference at Kisan Hall on Sunday, Asghar, while blaming the government for escalation of terrorism in the entire country, observed that emergency had been imposed to further the American agenda on the war on terrorism in the region. He said former premier Ms Bhutto and President General Pervez Musharraf both supported the US interests and both were working together. He said Benazir and Musharraf were seen as the best combination by the West and the duo was now fooling the whole nation by staging mock confrontation. He lashed out at the President for suspending the Constitution while maintaining that the president had no constitutional authority to declare emergency in the country. Terming the step of the government as shameful, Asghar criticized the government for allegedly targeting the judiciary and superior judges of the apex court under the garb of emergency. He said the lawyer fraternity would have to embark on another movement for the independence of judiciary after the blatant attack by the government. He assured the lawyers of his complete support. “We will fully participate in this movement,” he said, while pleading the whole nation must come out on streets to protest the constitutional violation to defend their fundamental rights.

Justice Wajihuddin says PPP support Emergency Plan- blasts Aitzaz Ahsan!

It is becoming apparent now that BB and her PPP are part and parcel of the Emergency arrangment, but Justice Wajihuddin has also now quite suprisingly said that Aitzaz Ahsan is part of the plan as well.

Wajih says Musharraf acted in league with NRO beneficiaries

General Pervez Musharraf has declared a state of emergency in the country in league with the beneficiaries of the National Reconciliation Ordinance, says former Supreme Court judge Wajihuddin Ahmad. Unimpressed by Pakistan People’s Party chairperson Benazir Bhutto’s dash back to the country shortly after the imposition of emergency, Mr Ahmad said in an interview with Dawn that there was a strong PPP link in what had happened in the country on Saturday. “I remember Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry telling me when he was suspended following the March 9 presidential reference that the original government plan was to instal Justice Abdul Hameed Dogar as chief justice. Justice Dogar had the dubious distinction of being acting chief election commissioner. He was elevated to the Sindh High Court by a PPP government.” Hailing from Shikarpur in Sindh, Justice Dogar was elevated to the Sindh High Court on April 10, 1995. He was elevated to the Supreme Court on April 28, 2000, following the refusal of then Supreme Court chief justice Saeeduzzaman Siddiqui, as well as six other judges, to take an oath on the provisional constitutional order.

Sources quoted Justice Javed Iqbal as saying on Saturday that the Supreme Court was all set to pronounce a ruling on the president’s qualification to be re-elected on Thursday, but the case dragged on because Aitzaz Ahsan, the counsel for Mr Ahmad prolonged his arguments unnecessarily. Pointing to Mr Ahsan’s political affiliation, the sources said he did not deploy what could have been a devastating argument against the nomination papers of Gen Musharraf and other nominees. Mr Ahsan had been instructed to draw the attention of the court towards the fact that Gen Musharraf’s nomination papers were filed even before the office hours of the Election Commission of Pakistan. He had been told to insist that the nomination papers filed before or after the office hours of the Election Commission had no legal and constitutional value. When Mr Ahmad was asked to explain his lawyer’s long-winded arguments and reluctance to place due emphasis on an important legal point, he said: “No comments.”

Mr Ahmad said that just as the government had found out that the eleven-member bench of the Supreme Court was planning to rule against the president, the PPP also feared that the apex court would strike down the controversial amnesty law.“That is why I insist that Gen Musharraf has acted in league with the beneficiaries of the National Reconciliation Ordinance,” he said. Mr Ahmad said he had a feeling that Gen Musharraf would get a prompt validation for his proclamation of emergency from the present assemblies. “He would then team up with the beneficiaries of the National Reconciliation Ordinance in the new set-up and they would triumphantly declare that they have supervised a smooth transition to democracy,” he said. Mr Ahmad said he was certain that measures carried out under the state of emergency would be forcefully opposed by civil society.

Re: Justice Wajihuddin says PPP support Emergency Plan- blasts Aitzaz Ahsan!

Other than a newsconference PPP has been silent.

Re: Justice Wajihuddin says PPP support Emergency Plan- blasts Aitzaz Ahsan!

BB is off to Islamabad soon, and she has publicly said she is still prepared to continue to talk to President Musharraf.

Re: Justice Wajihuddin says PPP support Emergency Plan- blasts Aitzaz Ahsan!

Reza Pahlavi: Brother, someone should ask Wajihuddin that if PPP is colluding with Musharraf than why President went for election without changing the constitution, as he did when MMA colluded with President.

At present, number of pro President parliamentarians in NA is 203 out of 342 and they only need 25 more votes to change constitution, whereas PPP has 55 seats, enough if they supported President to change constitution and than go for election.

Re: Justice Wajihuddin says PPP support Emergency Plan- blasts Aitzaz Ahsan!

I really feel like laughing when you talk about law, constitutiion, parliament election....you supporters of banana republic still want to play this topi drama of parliament constitution and legal requirements....why are you concerned with these things>>>

Re: Justice Wajihuddin says PPP support Emergency Plan- blasts Aitzaz Ahsan!

Have you ever seen Cheetah playing with their live prey, a captured Fawn under complete control of Cheetah?

Well, constitution, opposition, parliament and all these to military dictator is same as captured and helpless Fawn to Cheetah. :) They play with these things until it becomes boring or out of hand. This goes on until the time Cheetah loses agility and control over body… err … Sorry, I mean military dictator loses his control, support and loyalty of army :). It is unfortunate but that is life.

Re: Justice Wajihuddin says PPP support Emergency Plan- blasts Aitzaz Ahsan!

Would BB be offerd interim PM ship?

Re: Justice Wajihuddin says PPP support Emergency Plan- blasts Aitzaz Ahsan!

So you WERE actually lying when you said you had formal education from UK.... and in reality you actually live in a jungle....

Re: PPP and the Emergency [merged]

the analogy could be made with a much less flattering animal, say a hyena, or a wild dog. stripped of its machismo, your analogy is exactly whats rules in Pakistan, the law of the jungle. all you and i can agree on is that Pakistan's institutions have been subjected to animalistic dominance merely on the basis of the ability to overpower.

what is different though is our reaction to it. Both can only sit back and watch, you for some reason cheer it on, I watch with sadness.

Re: Justice Wajihuddin says PPP support Emergency Plan- blasts Aitzaz Ahsan!

She may become Civilian Martial Law Administrator (CMLA) like her father. Maybe that is why is off to Islamabad soon? :)

Re: PPP and the Emergency [merged]

Aap nay galaat matlab lay liya :) I was just trying to mention what normally military rulers do or can do, that does not mean Musharraf is doing the same. :)

As for me giving example of Cheetah, I did that because from what I know, apart of some Cats (especially Cheetah is one of them) no predators play with their helpless victims. Cheetah is solitary animal and hunts on their own like military ruler, and not in pack like Dogs and Hyenas.

Wild dogs are most vicious predators and do not even waste time in killing the prey but start eating the prey alive. As for Hyenas, they are also vicious killer and kill their prey at first opportunity. These two animals, Dogs and Hyenas, they cannot become example for military ruler that hunts on his own and sometime plays with victims. These animals, Dogs and Hyenas, can become examples for groups like Taliban, Al-qaidah, and other terrorists, who run about in packs and cut the throat of their victims without mercy if they have opportunity.

Re: PPP and the Emergency [merged]

Dawn reporting that BB is off to Islamabad today.

Re: PPP and the Emergency [merged]

Though I do not mind if government takes BB along in order to crush extremists, still I do not feel that BB is going to get anything from Islamabad.

Re: Benazir was taken into confidence about Emergency as part of deal

ANd I was the first man on the moon!
Back your statements please!

Re: PPP and the Emergency [merged]

Well BB seems to have suggested the name of fellow Sindhi - Abdul Hameed Dogar as the CJ. This was reported in the Nation yesterday, and Wajihuddin is saying as much in the Dawn today. So she is very much part of this whole Emergency plan.

Re: PPP and the Emergency [merged]

I believe this emergency is not just being directed from the GHQ, but also in coordination with Bilawal House.

Re: PPP and the Emergency [merged]

Brother, what BB has given to President or PML(Q) government that she can expect anything from President or government?

As for suggesting that BB recommended Dogar, this is old trick of corrupt politicians that they claim that all what happened was due to their recommendations, as politicians think that these type of claims create perception to people that they are in control and running the country. As for Pakistani media, these days they are bikao maal, and one can get them write anything after paying their price.

Let see, what PPP would do, as few days back BB was saying that if emergency is imposed on Pakistan, PPP would never tolerate that and would be on streets. Probably at that time BB thought that Musharraf would never impose emergency else she would not have made such statements.

Re: PPP and the Emergency [merged]

The reports are that government has sent a high-powered delegation to her place immediately after her arrival in Karachi to take her into confidence. A renewed bid at reconciliation could be seen between the government and PPP in days to come. The government will be more than interested to rope in the PPP at this critical juncture.

BB still singing the Musharraf tune.

Bhutto to Musharraf: We Can Still Deal
http://news.yahoo.com/s/time/20071105/wl_time/bhuttotomusharrafwecanstilldeal

Do you think these judges were actually in the wrong?

I am not aware of the details but I know that General Musharraf has made some allegations against the judges, and they are allegations that they must respond to. They are very serious allegations.
