Post Hindu India

Complete equality is granted to the Dalit-bahujan communities is needed.

*Why I Am Not A Hindu, he dissected the Hindu social system in an earthy style, though often taking liberties with historical validity. In Delhi recently for the release of his latest work, Post-Hindu India, he spoke to Subodh Varma: *

**What do you mean by post-Hindu India? **

Hinduism is in a state of crisis, facing a kind of civil war within. The primary reason for this is the stranglehold of the varnashram system which keeps 750 million Hindus subjugated and humiliated. These are the Dalits, tribals and the backward classes. Hinduism has failed to convince them that they are part of it, despite the fact that they were the carriers of all science and technology for centuries. Hinduism is the only religion that has failed to negotiate and engage with reason and science. No social reformer, except Phule and Ambedkar, challenged the caste system. Other religions are now competing to win over these people hence there is an imminent explosive crisis.

**How did Hinduism suppress science and reason? **

The technologies for human survival from agriculture to leather tanning to metal-work were all developed by the labouring sections, that is, the Dalits, tribals and backward classes. The upper castes simply took away the fruits of their labour and invention. The tanners developed the art of leather tanning. The best technology of washing through use of soaps found in soils was discovered in India. The barbers, who wielded the razor, developed the science of surgical treatment of ulcers and boils, and so on. But they were all treated as outcastes. Instead of according them honour and upgrading their sciences they were humiliated. Marriage out of one’s caste was prohibited, thus obstructing the free interchange of knowledge, as happened in other religions. It was said that God doesn’t approve of working with hands; it is impure. In this way science and technology stagnated and its practitioners got subdued.

**You claim there is a war in progress. **

You may not see it on the surface now, but in the hearts of the oppressed castes there is anger and hatred. Today it is a war of nerves. Tomorrow it may erupt as a war of positions. There are only two options: either complete equality is granted to the Dalit-bahujan communities or they embrace other religions like Buddhism, Christianity or Islam. Granting equality would mean embracing Dalits and all lower castes and tribals, eating with them, treating them as equals, and an end to the allegation that they are merit-deficient. All spiritual texts will have to be re-edited. It is difficult to see this happening. The other competing religions offer spiritual democracy, as opposed to the spiritual fascism of Hinduism. This competition is the war.

Re: Post Hindu India

Need of the hour is to -

  1. Make casteism illegal
  2. Abolish caste based reservations, and instead have economic basis for reservations

Nice thoughts mate but you know as well as i know that how Exremist Hindus think like:

“Once sub-human, always sub-human” is the root belief animating the exquisitely cruel behaviour of upper-caste Hindus towards the lowest castes in India.

just another quote from Extremist Hindu:

Why would an upper caste Hindu listen to people deemed so dirty and vile that their very shadow was polluting?

I mean you know better then i know that its a never ending story.

To quote from an article on bbc:

Despite 50 years of reform, laws banning discrimination and education and economic development, India’s 160 million dalits (about 16 % of the population) are dehumanised in a million ways every day.

Re: Post Hindu India

We should encourage castism in India! It will help in achieving the ultimate destrouction of the Hindu neo colonialist Raj..

obsession with adversary!

Hindus or Muslims or others all are children of GOD. Poor, exploited and backward are not exclusive to any Hindu society alone.....

Think of all deprived to gain acceptability and prosperity.....

Attempts and plans to destorying others can be fatal for own existence.

You have not listened- "Doosron ke liye Gaddha Khodein wala kud hi Gaddhe mein gir jaate hain"

Re: Post Hindu India

I am not bothered about the caste system practised in India.I have lived in Bali (Indonesia)for years and the pristine form of Hindusim is practised in Bali only.Where if a person who chooses the profession of a priest automatically becomes a Brahmin and if he ever reneges his job as priest and takes up some other profession, for example teaching,he becomes Shudra automatically. He is free to go back to his old profession anytime and can become a Brahmin and having taken up the profession of a Shudra he will not be barred/ostracized from his Brahmin community.Inded this is the original concept behind caste system. In the older days people were divided according to the kind of profession they pursued. But this system suffered a gret dent after some people termed this idea for their own sake.

Dalits have been provided incentives by the government to keep casteism alive. The result is that well to do “dalits” get a lot of freebies at the expense of “non-dalits” and “poor dalits”. We need to abolish those incentives and make everything economic status based i.e. poor people irrespective of their caste get the reservations. This problem of casteism will die on its own.

Re: Post Hindu India

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat has called for the demolition of caste barriers which he said have obstructed the growth of Hinduism and shackled Hindu society for hundreds of years.

Bhagwat was interacting with intellectuals in the Taj city Monday night after a two-day jamboree of the organisation in Agra.

He said the RSS was in no dilemma or confusion over its ideological posturing.

“We are for change in Hindu society and this can be done only when all of us launch an all out assault on casteism. RSS activists are way ahead in this campaign. A recent survey has indicated that the number of intercaste marriages was the highest in the RSS,” he said.

Bhagwat’s focus was on attacking casteism, which he said should be abolished and RSS workers should spearhead the movement for bringing down caste barriers to integrate Hindu society.

The RSS chief Bhagwat interacted with office bearers and senior leaders of the organisation to evolve a strategy for future action programmes.
