exactly. people convert around all the time. its a personal decision and should stay as such.
Once i was standing at a Bus Stop in Houston, and person came to me and starting telling about Jesus, and i simply told him i studied in a Catholic Missionary School and in 12 years they could not influence me and how can you do that in 10 mints, he just went away
Maybe Christians and others don't have this inferiority complex that compels them to celebrate every conversion...????
You're kidding me right?
Do you know how many conversions are taking place , especially after 911, to Islam and how like almost NONE of them are covered in the media. To the point that ex-church preachers convert and really only muslims who follow this kind of stuff might know about it.
ONE man from a muslim background - NOT muslim himself in any way - converts to Christianity and its the talk of the town. This news story is up everywhere. Even friggin yahoo took the time to cover it amongst all their other nonsense stories they focus on daily. I beg to differ, Seminole. I don't think muslims have this urge to advertise who's converting into Islam, because its just not a big deal for us - there are so many muslims in the world, and most muslims are so apathetic to this sorta stuff, because I think most of us are normal well-grounded people who aren't obsessed with religion in an unhealthy way. Even those who are obsessed in an unhealthy way don't make news broadcasts about who converts to Islam and when. Too many people to keep track of.
However, Christians seem to jump on this kind of thing. shrugs What can I say? Islam fascinates people. .
Honestly, how often do you hear non-Muslims gloating over conversions? Do you really think this is the first convert? I realize that Islam is the fastest growing religion (and it has nothing to do with the fact that their birth rates are the highest), but surely this isn't the first convert. On gupshup alone, there have been scores of threads about conversions or suspected conversions, I think you may have it wrong on who "jumps on this kind of thing". It seems to be an obsession. Yet we are talking about one Christian conversion making the news and all of a sudden it's Christians who are obsessed.

We muslims know very well how some people are doing whatever they can to make our people look bad, but that's no reason for you to rub it in people's faces. That's a very grave situation which muslims take very seriously and are very pained by it, and are suffering every day from the negative image we get from those idiots. It would be kind of you to be more sensitive

I'm not sure what this means. One Muslim conversion is covered and it's making your people look bad and rubbing it in your face? Should I expect people to be more sensitive when they post thread after thread about conversions to Islam?
^^ Seminole sweetheart, the "look bad" in PCG post refers to muslims in other parts of the world, i.e. the extremist/fundamentalist/suicide bomber types giving Islam a bad name.
You have to realize that you are on a BB that is visited mainly be muslims, hence conversion to Islam stories crop-up, they are feel-good types. So what? I don't think anyone here is obsessed with how many conversions are taking place. You have to agree that this story was published just to create drama b/c of his association with Islami. It's not like this guy was a praying five times a day, and then all of a sudden it dawned upon him that Jesus is his Saviour and hence he converted. His wife is christian, and he himself says he never practiced. I don't think many of us here care what he is, he could very well be bowing to the toilet tomorrow and it wouldn't matter.

.
Sorry, but secularlists look like archangels compared to the extremist/fundamentalist/suicide bomber types.
That's insane, considering a CRAP load of secularists support wars like the last Gulf war, as evil as that was. it's secularists, and not the suicide bombers, who have industrialized the concept of mass murder...and it is secularists who consider only this massive kind of industrailized violence as blessed, while the pathetic acts of terrorists are somehow considered the height of evil...for some odd reason.

Maybe its just really late at night and I just spent some time with people that have scrambled my mind...but I don't understand what you're saying. I haven't heard too many stories of so-and-so converted to Christianity, but I do hear stories of celebrities/famous sort finding God, and this story is certainly over-dramatized. The fact that Islam is such a hot button topic these days is probably fueling the over-dramatization, otherwise papers wouldn't bother to print such a thing and the Vatican wouldn't have made such a big deal about it. Its a deliberate attempt to needle the muslim population and for once I'm glad that muslims around the world aren't reacting by throwing rocks at foreign embassies.
Second issue: Are you saying you perceive muslims on this forum to get hyped when someone converts to Islam? As per your Michael Jackson reference, I think the more general conscensus was less this sick-jubilee of "we got another one" and more of "Oh my God, one more person that's going to embarass us all".
Mind you Italy is the heartland of Catholicism. Western Christianity is being eclipsed by Secular Humanism, so I wonder how many Europeans are Christian in name only? In the UK, Muslim participation in religious life is higher percentage wise to the Church of England.
It’s better that he converted. I would have that than having the likes of Irshad Manji, Asra Nomani speaking for Muslims. At least he has been honest in his faith selection.
