Lata Mageshkar is the best when it comes to pronounce pure Urdu words. In some interview, she told that at an early stage of her career, she was taunted for her weak Urdu diction, as she belonged to Maharashtra. She took that as a challenge and proved her by singing songs with difficult Urdu words. Her Album with Jagjit Singh ‘Sajda’ is the best example.

Asha Bhosle was bad in the beginning when in one of the songs she pronounced ****“makhmaki مکھملی]” **instead of “maKhmali مخملی]”…then she got a tutor and worked hard on her talaffuz…she is perfect now!..among the new breed, alka yaqnik is good.
