Maybe Christians and others don't have this inferiority complex that compels them to celebrate every conversion to Islam and ridicule any conversion to non-Muslim. And maybe there is too much fixation on media propaganda and not enough on what Muslims themselves are doing to give Islam a bad name.
You can have all those muslims, give us all the good Christians, Jews etc.

Why should I? Muslim converts are mostly good and religious people even before their conversion to Islam, and this man was anti religious and was giving bad name to Islam.

Yeah, I really got annoyed with the way they made it seem like a MUSLIM had converted over to Christianity, when he was in fact never really a practicing muslim to begin with. One of my friends actually had the nerve to show me the story I guess to see a reaction, and I just nodded and said “Oh, cool”. 
This obsession with “my religion” and “your religion” is getting ridiculous. I could care less if this guy joins Christianity. ONE news story on ONE guy (not even muslim, but BORN to muslim parents) converting to Christianity. Do you know how many people convert to Islam each day?

I don't think I've ever heard of anyone convert out of the religion. Interesting --
there are many people who converts from one religion to religion
i have seen many Hindus and Muslims converting to Christianity
but in general i don't trust a person who don't have faith in his faith
i don't feel anything annyoed or care about it when someone converts to other religion from religion, its completely his personal thing

You're kidding me right?
Do you know how many conversions are taking place , especially after 911, to Islam and how like almost NONE of them are covered in the media. To the point that ex-church preachers convert and really only muslims who follow this kind of stuff might know about it.
ONE man from a muslim background - NOT muslim himself in any way - converts to Christianity and its the talk of the town. This news story is up everywhere. Even friggin yahoo took the time to cover it amongst all their other nonsense stories they focus on daily. I beg to differ, Seminole. I don't think muslims have this urge to advertise who's converting into Islam, because its just not a big deal for us - there are so many muslims in the world, and most muslims are so apathetic to this sorta stuff, because I think most of us are normal well-grounded people who aren't obsessed with religion in an unhealthy way. Even those who are obsessed in an unhealthy way don't make news broadcasts about who converts to Islam and when. Too many people to keep track of.
However, Christians seem to jump on this kind of thing. shrugs What can I say? Islam fascinates people.
We muslims know very well how some people are doing whatever they can to make our people look bad, but that's no reason for you to rub it in people's faces. That's a very grave situation which muslims take very seriously and are very pained by it, and are suffering every day from the negative image we get from those idiots. It would be kind of you to be more sensitive.

MACON, GA — Mayor C. Jack Ellis, a practicing Christian throughout his life, on Thursday said he’s switched to the Islamic faith.
February 6, 2007 — budsimmons MACON, GA — Mayor C. Jack Ellis, a practicing Christian throughout his life, on Thursday said he’s switched to the Islamic faith.
The mayor said the conversion also means he’ll be going through the legal process of changing his name. His new name will be Hakim Mansour Ellis. The mayor said he kept his last name to maintain family ties.
“It’s a personal decision, a private decision as to how one worships. But I do understand that I’m not a private person,” Ellis said. “But being the mayor of the city, I think people have a right to know what I believe in, that I am a man of faith, and the faith I’m now a part of is the faith of Islam.”
He now calls himself a Sunni Muslim. He made the switch, Ellis said, during his December trip to Africa. Rather than call it a switch, Ellis said it was like returning home.
“I went back to my roots I guess you could say,” Ellis said. “I did convert to Islam in December of this past year in the country of Senegal. When I say, “back to my roots”, Islam was in Senegal prior to the Africans being brought here as slaves.”
Since converting, Ellis said he attends the Islamic Center on Bloomfield Road during Friday worship services. He also said he’s practicing the Islam doctrine of praying five times each day.
Ellis said he discussed his decision with his family and siblings before making it public.
“Now, I’m sharing with my broader family, the Macon community who supported me when I was a Christian and trust that they will now,” Ellis said. “I’m the same person even though I’ll be changing my name.”
Even though he switched religions, the mayor said he isn’t ranking them.
“I’m not saying that one is better than the other,” Ellis said. “We do believe that the prophet Mohammed was the last prophet as well as we believe Moses was a prophet.”
Prior to the conversion, Ellis said he attended Unionville Baptist Church on Houston Avenue and before that Harvest Cathedral on Rocky Creek Road.
The mayor completes his second consecutive four-year term in December and isn’t eligible for re-election. But Ellis said he might run for Georgia’s 8th District congressional seat in 2008.
In response to questions about whether Ellis would order new stationery and signs with his name, mayoral spokesman Ron Wildman today said, “We don’t forsee any cost to the city.”
Referring to signs and plaques around the city that bear the mayor’s name, Wildman said, “He was elected as C. Jack Ellis, and those signs reflect what he did as C. Jack Ellis.”

^ Will you find this story in a major American publication? No. Its only covered by Islamic groups, and since they don't have much widespread publication readership since there are so many such small groups operating at local levels, you don't even hear about this sort of thing. And this guy wasn't some Bible-criticising guy with Christian parents - he was a minister...
We're talking about some dude who was born from a womb of a woman who subscribed to Islam, and that doesn't make you a muslim...
