Re: pms...a real problem?
i went to the DR last week so havnt started yet.. i'll let you know and will post my feedback soon INSHALLAH
Re: pms...a real problem?
Just start with one and you probably need to take it for a few months. St. Johns Wort is also used to treat mild depression, so you may want to start with that given that the problems are not physical at all. Do be careful and check first if you are taking any other medicines such as BCP.
You can get them from Holland and Barrett, which I would recommend over Tesco own brand.
thank you so much. no i'm not taking any sort of medicines so i guess it should be okay.
Re: pms...a real problem?
I've heard PMS alleviates once you go on the pill, anyone has experience with that?
Re: pms...a real problem?

which pill? the contraceptive one? i never liked those pills, they give me headaches.

It relieves physical symptoms, but it gives you a whole lot more other crap until you find the right one for you. I'd rather deal with the PMS than some of the pill side effects.
Re: pms...a real problem?
Just as a little message out there randomly for anyone reading this incase you decide to use st johns wort
If you are on the contraceptive pill for birth control reasons you cannot take st johns wort at the same time as they interact and the pill loses its affectivenes.
Re: pms...a real problem?
^It says do not take if you're trying to get pregnant, doesn't mention anything about the contraceptive pills.

Im almost 100% sure about this. I remember during my GP block I had to ask this question and explain this to patients like 10 times a day.
This is from a paper published Titled ' Interactions of the oral contraceptive pill with antibiotics and St John’s wort: knowledge of female college students'
Meena Hindmarch and Pippa Oakeshott
These results suggest that many young women taking the OCP may be unaware of drugs that decrease its effectiveness. This may leave them more susceptible to pregnancy if they do not realise they should be taking extra precautions. This was particularly so with respect to the interaction with St John’s wort. Since GPs and practice nurses are an important source of the OCP for young women, they should consider mentioning the need for extra precautions not only with antibiotics, but also with St John’s wort.
Re: pms...a real problem?
Hareem, I agree with inspirion which is why I said be careful and check first if you are taking any other meds, esp BCPs.
Both BCP and St. Johns Wort are affecting your hormones so it makes sense that they will interact to some degree.
Re: pms...a real problem?
^thank you. I'm not on any kind of pills.

Re: pms...a real problem?
I know this may sound crazy but try eating lots of fruit and do more exercise. The week before I'm due I try to eat at least 10 peices of fruit eveyday and I add another 20 minute workout to my routine.
Re: pms…a real problem?
Oh God yes, I used to have it pretty severe, I could FEEL myself turning into a *itch.
Have you ever watched manimal Yes, JUST like that.
Also, it used to be so much WORSE when I was eating junk, especially refined sugar.
Ever since I’ve been eating better and working out ( a few years now), pms is much much better to deal with.
Re: pms…a real problem?
I’ve changed my eating habits in past 6 months but it’s not helping much, but yeah eating junk during the bleeding worsen the mood.
i remember Manimal.

Re: pms...a real problem?
I recently started a bcp and it gave me crazy throbbing headaches in half my head and killer nausea, I could barely eat anything. I had to stop. Anyone else who went through a series of side-effects with bcp's?
