pms...a real problem?

do you need to see a doctor if you feel you suffer from this? are there any medications for this?

Re: pms...a real problem?

Yes and yes!
In my experience the older desi community doesnt believe this (PMS) or PMDD is a real issue, theyre always talking about how they never heard of this. But its there and theres meds for it, I have a friend whos talking something for PMDD and its really helping her get her mood swings in control.
I just dont know what the long term effects of this are...

Re: pms...a real problem?

depends on what the symptoms are.

Re: pms...a real problem?

It all depends on how much it interferes with your life.

Re: pms...a real problem?

all the related mental problems there could be but no physical ones. then?

Re: pms...a real problem?

Are they severe and prolonged or they just come and go in light, brief bursts?

Re: pms...a real problem?

it starts 5 or 6 days before the period date and lasts another 5 or 6 days. and yes quite severe, i mean proper yelling and shouting.

Re: pms…a real problem?

:bummer: ask my husband ! everything I insist that he doesnt think is right goes straight to be blamed on pms !

Re: pms…a real problem?

lol

i just wanna stop myself from yelling at everyone, i get irritated at little little things when in this situation.

Re: pms...a real problem?

Shouting and yelling is fairly normal I'd say, but as long you aren't feeling depressed, suicidal or suffering from insomnia etc. Your doctor will probably recommend you to exercise, walk in park, sleep for longer hours and eat healthy. There's no harm in seeing a doctor anyway, you know your condition better than anyone else here.

Re: pms...a real problem?

Im gonna go to doctor also because PMS symptoms. I have like really really bad mood swings couple days before periods. Like I get irritated really easily and when someone says or does something which irritates me i yell..alot :D And sometimes I realize like I dont want to yell or I dont have any reason to yell but still I end up yelling. And then I feel bad because I have yelled for no reason and said something stupid to someone who I care. And also I cry really easily and sometimes I dont even know why im crying, everything just seems so sad and it feels like everything is fallin apart. But that lasts only those 3-4 days before periods, so I know thats just because PMS.
I suffer also really bad stomach aches when I have periods, so thats why im eating birth control pills now, and I have tried 2 different birth control pills, and first ones didnt suit for me, those made me even more moody =D But these which im eating now are helping little. My friend got some pills for PMS symptoms but I just dont know do I want to end up eating more pills...I just want to talk with doctor about that. But exercise, healthy eating, relaxing and stress free environment helps minimize PMS symptoms...its just little hard to try avoid stress etc.
Maybe its good thing that im not married yet, so I can solve this problem before marriage so I wont yell to my hubby at least that much =DD
Its hard to be a woman! :D

Re: pms...a real problem?

Re: pms...a real problem?

My cramps were terrrriiiiiiiiiibbbbbbbbbbbbllllllllllllllleeeeeeeeeeeeee growing up but got so much better as I got older.

It just depends on how much it takes over you life during that time of the month...:(

Re: pms...a real problem?

^yeah i don't get enough rest may be that's the reason. 3 or 4 mnths ago i used to start crying and thinking of killing myself but those feelings are gone now but instead i have become highly irritated...this month it was the worst experience ever.

Re: pms...a real problem?

oh and i eat like crazy in these days and crave for junk food. nasty

oh dear. how do you manage going to work?

i see you said it's gone better now which is good.

Re: pms...a real problem?

I was the same as Reha. I've written about this before on here. The muscle cramping used to be so bad I couldn't get up and it would radiate down to my thighs like I had done an intense work out the day before. My BP would also get very low; it's on the low side anyway. The symptoms have become become better as I've aged.

I also get irritable and snappy but I think that partly is to do with the physical pain I have.

If you want to try some natural remedies, you can start taking chasteberry or st. johns wort as they have been shown to be effective in relieving the symptoms by balancing hormone levels.

Re: pms...a real problem?

where can i buy them?

Re: pms...a real problem?

I'll pick them up tonight from Tesco inshaAllah

Re: pms…a real problem?

Hello hareem i m suffering from PMS and my DR prescribed me evening primrose oil tablet.
you can read about primrose here Evening Primrose Oil - HerbKnowledge.net

Re: pms...a real problem?

Just start with one and you probably need to take it for a few months. St. Johns Wort is also used to treat mild depression, so you may want to start with that given that the problems are not physical at all. Do be careful and check first if you are taking any other medicines such as BCP.

You can get them from Holland and Barrett, which I would recommend over Tesco own brand.
