PML-N may quit cabinet? if no agreement on judges

If this happens I am sure the PML (Patriots) or so-called “forward bloc” will move to support the PPP-led govt.

PML-N may quit cabinet?

LAHORE: The PML-N has decided to quit all federal ministries if the deadlock with the PPP over the restoration of the sacked judges persists, Geo News reported on Monday night. According to the channel, the decision came after PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif’s meeting with the leaders of his party on Monday night. However, the PML-N decided to continue its support for the PPP even after resigning from the federal cabinet.

Re: PML-N may quit cabinet? if no agreement on judges

If PPP fails to restore Judges then, this will be in great benefit of PML-N, as u may be aware of the fact that even Musharaf-League have changed their stance on the issue of the restoration of Judges.

I don't think so that the leadership of PPP is that dumb that they will commit a suicide by not doing this...

Re: PML-N may quit cabinet? if no agreement on judges

Some people are happy on a slightest dent in Anti-Mush camp. :rotfl:

I don’t think a totally independent CJ (pre March 9, 2007) will be acceptable to any political party or dictator. These people are born for corruption and they can’t stand so motos every other week. Which minister or appointed IG would like to be in court for not serving an ordinary man’s request.

PML (FJNQPR), PPP(P)(SB), MMA, MQM, ANP are all from same clan. Lootlo sub baap ka maal hai.

Re: PML-N may quit cabinet? if no agreement on judges

The PPP came first in popular votes in the general election.
The PML Q came second.
The PML Nawaz was third in terms of votes - it only got 19% of the total votes.

The PPP did not fight the election on the issue of the judges, neither did it's coalition partners like the ANP, JUI etc. Only the PML N had a clear stance on the judges, and as I said it only got 19% of the votes.

So much for the great electoral effect of the judges issue on the people's voting patterns.

Re: PML-N may quit cabinet? if no agreement on judges

Dear Bro,

PPP fought on Anti-Mush sentiments, one of the reasons sensible people of Pakistan have opposed was suspension of the Judiciary.

One reason of Q-league's lost in election was the Supreme Court ISSUE, now just for ur information, the 2nd in command of Q-league has changed their policy in favor of resotration of Judges...

Now u tell me where does u stand???

Re: PML-N may quit cabinet? if no agreement on judges

Dear Bro,

Some facts for you to consider.

PPP’s votebank was the same in the 18 Feb election, as it has been in the 80’s and 90’s - no major changes. Benazir also spent most of the last year negotiating with Musharraf for a deal, and that is a fact known well to the voting Pakistani public.

The ANP, JUI coalition partners have their own regional votebanks as well - nothing to do with judges issue.

PML Nawaz won 0 seats in Sindh and Balochistan, and very few in NWFP. Almost all it’s votebank was in Punjab.

In Punjab (and Balochistan) it was PML Q that came first place.

As for PML Q stance on judges, if you read carefully they were actually goading the others to “restore the judges”, as they had not done so far in all these weeks, despite the constant promises/reaffirmations. :hehe:

Re: PML-N may quit cabinet? if no agreement on judges

Mashallah. Everything falling in place.

Re: PML-N may quit cabinet? if no agreement on judges

LOL. Good to see sarcasm of Sheikh Rashid has rubbed off on others.

Re: PML-N may quit cabinet? if no agreement on judges

.

Re: PML-N may quit cabinet? if no agreement on judges

if judges are not restored then there is nothing else the pmln goons can do, it would be a big slap in their face and 1000% drop in popularity levels,
btw. its in the interest of the nation that they step down and also retire

Re: PML-N may quit cabinet? if no agreement on judges

If coalition between PPP and PML(N) would go then I think PPP would form Punjab government as senior partner in coalition with PML(Q) as junior partner first time after Z A Bhutto time (1972-1977) and PML(N) would take the place of opposition party in Islamabad as well as Punjab. It is surprising why PPP choose to become junior partner in Punjab when they can form the government.

Everyone knows that BB came to Pakistan to support Musharraf fight extremists. USA did not trusted PML(Q) thinking that many are pro-Taliban and hence sent her to Pakistan with American flag and Musharraf government agreed. Unfortunately for government, PML(Q) was too strong so interim government did all to make PML(Q) unpopular (creating bohrans of many types). Death of BB also dented PML(Q) and benefitted PPP a lot. But then, even after so much dents PML(Q) got more votes than any party in Punjab (not seats but votes) and Balochistan. Total votes different parties obtained in NA:

Total PML(Q) coalition votes around 12 million
[PML(Q) votes = slightly over 8 million]

PPP: votes 10.5 million
PML(N): votes 6.7 million

I do not think that above result is bad result after death of BB and all those problems that started after 9th March, especially during interim government time. Actually, coalition should have done much better in terms of seats if other parties would not have colluded and JI + TI + MMA [minus JUI(F)] + minor parties did not boycotted the election in favour of PML(N). This collution happened a lot in Punjab and NWFP favouring PML(N). It also happened in Sindh favouring PPP:

Regardless of that, PPP got around 3.5 million votes in Sindh compared to coalition getting around 4.5 million votes.

In Punjab and Baluchistan, PML(Q) got most votes though they got fewer 'NA' seats compared to their votes. In NWFP also PML(Q) votes are not much less than ANP or PPP but they got much fewer 'NA' seats compared to votes.

In Punjab one can see low votes of MMA. One can also see number of votes PML(Q) received though got very few 'NA' seats:
Punjab (148 seats)
PML(Q): votes 6,077,092 seats 29
PML(N): votes 6,026,721 seats 61
PPP: votes 5,943,504 seats 43
MMA: votes 44,281 seats 0
MQM: votes 16,982 seats 0
Others: votes 2,813,432 seats 14

SINDH (61 seats)
PPP: votes 3,598,589 seats 30
MQM: votes 2,542,993 seats 19
PML(Q): votes 1.011,621 seats 5
PML(F): votes 530505 seats 5
NPP: votes 185392 seats 1
PML(N): votes 139,674 seats 0
MMA: votes 65,558 seats 0
ANP: votes 39,071 seats 0
Others: votes 313,312 seats 0

In NWFP, PPP got most votes though less 'NA' seats than ANP:
NWFP (35 seats)
PPP: votes 695,631 seats 9
ANP: votes 609,632 seats 10
PML(Q): votes 538,837 seats 5
MMA: votes 485,862 seats 4
PML(N): votes 460,863 seats 4
PPP(Sherpao): votes 140,707 seats 1
MQM: votes 4,965 seats 0
Others: votes 549,228 seats 2

ISLAMABAD (2 seats)
PML(N)votes 106,962 seats 2
PPP: votes 71,211 seats 0
PML(Q)votes 45,029 seats 0
MMA: votes 1257 seats 0
MQM: votes 370 seats 0
ANP: votes 62 seats 0
Others: votes 15,113 seats 0

BALOCHISTAN (14 seats)
PML(Q)votes 317,238 seats 4
PPP: votes 297,551 seats 4
MMA: votes 175,840 seats 2
ANP: votes 51,714 seats 0
PML(N)votes 47,225 seats 0
MQM: votes 5503 seats 0
Others: votes 423,687 seats 4

As far as I know, the figures are quite accurate. I did not give FATA (12 seats) vote figures as they are all non-party seats.

Re: PML-N may quit cabinet? if no agreement on judges

^ An excellent and very accurate analysis.

PML-N may lose Punjab over judges’ issue

** PML-N expecting support of PML-Q forward bloc members to retain government*

By Mansab Dogar

LAHORE: If the deadlock between the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) is not resolved, the PML-N may not be able to hold on to power in Punjab, sources in the PML-N said on Tuesday.
They said the party’s leadership was aware of the fact that despite maximum manoeuvring, the party would fall short of at least 15 seats needed to obtain a simple majority in the Punjab Assembly.

Sources said the party had a strength of 162 members in the assembly, which was reduced to 158 after winners from multiple constituencies vacated their seats. At least 186 members are required in a house of 371 members for a simple majority. The PML-N leaders hope their strength would increase to 166 members after by-elections in June; still it would need the support of 20 more members to retain government.

Forward bloc: Sources said that although four members of the PML-Functional and one member of the Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) were likely to support the PML-N, the party would still not be able to get a simple majority. They said that in such a scenario, the PML-N expected the support of the forward bloc members of the PML-Q. They said that because the PPP was likely to retain its government in the Centre, it might form a government in Punjab with the support of all provincial parties minus the PML-N.

**They added that the PML-Q might render tacit support to the PPP only to keep the PML-N out. They said the PML-N would then sit in the opposition and would wait for the government to weaken. They said the PML-N leaders believed that any coalition with the PPP minus the PML-N would not last more than six months. **

They said the party leaders were expecting the next elections in 2009, if the coalition between the former archrivals ends before September this year.

Re: PML-N may quit cabinet? if no agreement on judges

Slowly but surely, Zardari is moving into Musharraf's lap.

Re: PML-N may quit cabinet? if no agreement on judges

So PPP was not falling apart or losing its appeal as you guys kept saying before the election... good to know that you are getting to see some light now :)

PML-N to quit govt if Murree accord not implemented: Hashmi

KARACHI: Pakistan Muslim League (N) leader Javed Hashmi here on Friday said that his party’s lawmakers will quit the government if the Murree Accord is not adhered to and the judges not restored. Talking to media, Javed Hashmi made his party’s stand clear that it wants judges to be restored according to the Murree Decleration. He was confident that the deadline to resolve the judicial crisis will be met. Answering a query, the PML-N leader showed flexibility in accepting a delay of 3 to 4 days in reinstating the judges. But, he categorically rejected the possibility of accepting any constitutional package compromising the issue. He bitterly criticised and accused President Musharraf of creating such problems. Hashmi made an appeal to all political parties to standby the promise of restoring the judiciary.

Meeting 30-day deadline no longer seems possible: Ayaz Amir

Updated at: 1855 PST, Friday, April 25, 2008

ISLAMABAD: MNA of Pakistan Muslim League (N) Ayaz Amir Friday said it appears as if the 30-day deadline for restoration of judges is no longer possible to be met. Talking to Geo News here outside the Parliament House, he said adjournment of the National Assembly session for indefinite period has given birth to doubts and suspicions. “The 30 day deadline has been turned into a mockery and hurdles are being created in the way of reinstatement of the deposed judges,” Ayaz Amir maintained. He said the committee entrusted with the task of restoration of judiciary has not formally briefed the Parliament about its progress. “It seems as though efforts are being made to clip suo moto powers of the chief justice besides reducing the judges employment tenure,” he said

Re: PML-N may quit cabinet? if no agreement on judges

so what exactly does PML-N bring to the table aside from their insistence of restoration of judges. Not that Nawas himself has stellar record in dealing with supreme courts earlier.

But what else do they want, what do they offer? where is the new thinking. Talking to militants? domething that was done 3 years ago so thats no breakthrough move.

Zardari does not need Nawaz, its the other way around.

Actually, it sometime really surprises me why PPP has given up the opportunity to rule Punjab? I believe that if it was BB than she would not have left this opportunity at any cost. As for Judges, those were used by political parties to destabilise past government and their purpose is fulfilled as far as PPP is concerned. Nawaz still wants to squeeze some life out of dancing lawyers as he want bread but knows that he has to survive on crumbs thrown to him by Zardari (BB would not have given Nawaz even crumbs).

Both parties plus most in Pakistan know that all what happened is because Musharraf is very lenient and good hearted, else to give a hard kick to dancing lawyers would have been very easy (fact is that they had almost no support amongst masses, but delay in kicking them did give them a following and some amongst masses started thinking that government is weak).

Now what I feel, situation is that Musharraf is not commanding army directly, so if these politicians (or judges under their instruction) would try to destabilise the government as Nawaz wants, then President ordering the army to act (or army themselves deciding to act) would not end in bloodless coup but could be very bloody coup where politicians as well as many amongst destabilising factors would get slaughtered, as when army moves, they do not see constitutions or laws, neither they ask anyone to justify their actions.

NOTE: Regardless of how much you differ with anyone, lets not be disrespectful.
