Re: PML-N decides to quit from cabinet

No matter, even without the PML N the PPP-led govt will retain it’s majority in coalition with it’s partners (MQM, JUI-F, ANP and FATA tribals).

PPP will have easy sailing even if PML-N quits

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan People’s Party will remain comfortably in power even if the PML-N decides to quit the ruling coalition on the issue of the reinstatement of judges. Though, the PML-N, the second major power shareholder in the coalition, has not announced parting ways with the PPP yet, there is every chance that it would do so ultimately, as the restoration of the judges was the only condition on which it had joined hands with its erstwhile rival. PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif said in London that his party would chalk out its future course of action next week, if the seething differences with the PPP over the reinstatement of the judges remained insurmountable.

In case the PML-N bids adieu to the government, the PPP would still enjoy power with the backing of the Awami National Party, the JUI (Fazl) and the Fata MNAs. These coalition partners, though having a limited numerical strength in the National Assembly, are capable of keeping the ruling coalition minus the PML-N intact with the most crucial support of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM). **The PPP has 121 MNAs, the MQM, which has been given representation in the Sindh government recently, has 25 MNAs, the ANP 13, Fata independents have 10 MNAs and the JUI-F 6 MNAs in the 342-member house. Hence, the tally of MNAs on the treasury side comes to 175. There are also chances of the former ruling PML-Q joining the PPP-led coalition in addition to the MQM’s inclusion in it in due course. **A senior leader of the PML-Q, who is also the senior vice-president, told this correspondent on condition of anonymity that there was every possibility of their joining the government after the removal of some “ifs” and “buts.”

However, the PML leader declined to explain what he meant by that. Reports have it that Asif Ali Zardari was interested in having the PML-Q on his side, but after the removal of Ch Shujaat Hussain as its president. When approached, MQM’s senior leader and member of Parliament Haider Abbas Rizvi said in the next phase of parleys between his party and the PPP, they were looking forward to joining the government at the Centre as well. However, he made it clear that the MQM had not made it a precondition for supporting the PPP in the National Assembly as well as the Sindh Assembly on numerous occasions. ANP Central Information Secretary Zahid Khan said the weakening of the ruling coalition at this juncture would be tantamount to strengthening a dictator and could obviously run contrary to the masses’ mandate. The nationalist leader pointed out that no party was given votes on any particular issue and, therefore, quitting the government on the judges issue would be the PML-N’s individual decision.

Parliamentary leader of the Fata group, Munir Orakzai, when asked what would be their line of action, said that they were never taken on board or consulted on the issue of judiciary. “Personally, this particular issue has nothing to do with the tribal belt, where people are living in a stone age and facing a very alarming security situation,” he maintained. However, he said in case of any development, the Fata legislators would have a brainstorming session, but the most likely option would be to remain a part of the government. A spokesperson for the JUI-F was hopeful that a way out of the stalemate would be agreed upon between the two parties and the ruling coalition would remain in the saddle. He maintained that his party was opposed to creating any hurdle in the democratic process, as this would go in favour of those who wanted mayhem in the country.

Re: PML-N decides to quit from cabinet

Good to see atleast some parties are starting to stand on their principles... The entire campaign PML(N) talked abt the restoration of judiciary and if they r leaving the coalation on the basis of the failure to do this then i fully back them.. and i m really impressed too...

Please don't start the thread whether its the most important issue for nation or not.. The point is that the voters gave them vote knowing their agenda and they are sticking to it... I really see it as a positive sign and a very Good thing for the nation

Re: PML-N decides to quit from cabinet

so basically PPP will replace PML(Q) in the former setup, and ANP will replace JUI(F)/PPP(SP)

Re: PML-N decides to quit from cabinet

which will be interesting, considering they will share it with MQM.

Re: PML-N decides to quit from cabinet

Nawaz Sharif did the right thing! The whole purpose of the coalition was to reinstate the Judges and Zardari backtracked from the agreement. This only highlights his character I think, he changes like the wind and will do anything for his personal benefit. He is unreliable.

Re: PML-N decides to quit from cabinet

^^ I agree. I thought I'd never say this, but my respect of NS has gone up...

Re: PML-N decides to quit from cabinet

Great move! PML[N] sticking to its word! Hats off to Nawaz Sharif for that.

Reza, Zardari is no longer Mr. 10% right?

Re: PML-N decides to quit from cabinet

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-N Chief, Nawaz Sharif Monday announced to quit the Federal Cabinet by tendering resignations to the Prime Minister tomorrow.

Addressing a press conference here after the meeting of the PML-N’s Central Working Committee, he said: “PPP failed to keep its promise and that is why we have decided to part ways with the coalition government.”

You know very well by now that no breakthrough could be achieved on the issue of restoration of deposed judges after holding marathon negotiations with the Pakistan People’s Party, he said.

PPP and PML-N committed in the Murree Declaration to reinstate the deposed judges to Nov 2 position by passing a resolution in the Parliament within 30 days of coming into power.

“We left no stone unturned to keep our promise made in the Murree Declaration,” he said, adding, “I had to go to Dubai and then London to hold negotiations with the PPP on the issue but to no avail.”

Our ministers will tender resignations tomorrow, Nawaz Sharif said.

He said: “Our standpoint is that the steps taken on November 3 were unconstitutional and illegal. 60 judges were sacked in a single move by General Pervez Musharraf, replacing them with his own under Provisional Constitutional Order.” We don’t accept these PCO judges, he added.

PML-N Chief said without independent judiciary the problems of the country cannot be resolved.

He vowed to continue the struggle for restoration of judiciary along with the lawyers community, civil society and people.

Re: PML-N decides to quit from cabinet

NS did stood for what he said, he kept his promise, gave up federal ministries, signs are that he may have to giveup govt. of Punjab... In todays Political Scenario, which party had such a firm stand to leave the govt. for reasons of principals.

Re: PML-N decides to quit from cabinet

Another aiwaan-e-sadar conspiracy bearing fruit. Now the only hurdle for Musharraf is to get rid of Chaudhry Shujaat and Elahi and bring a Zardari lover from the PML[Q] as the leader to cause problems for the Punjab Govt.

Re: PML-N decides to quit from cabinet

Mods, theres a typo in the link… Here is the corrected one:

Re: PML-N decides to quit from cabinet

Brilliant Move Nawaz!

Today Nawaz Sharif is the most beloved man in all of the Punjab. From Bahwalpur to Pindi everyone will support the lion in the next election. He will sweep every seat in both the MPA and NA.
I never liked the PML-N but after seeing Nawaz stand for principles the way he has, my respect for him has increased drastically.
His stand today will bear fruit in the next election which we can expect within the year.
BTW I wonder if Zardari considered something. The current US administration is gone as of November. The next administration will not support Mushy the way this one has. So Zardari is left with the political baggage of supporting Musharraf while the benefit (US favors) are gone.

Re: Brilliant Move Nawaz!

In all honesty, the best scenario for Pakistan would have been the two biggest parties of Pakistan, the PPP and the PML[n] working together, without the interference of a dictator, and should have tried hard to turn the tide and make Pakistan safer and more proserous, but it seems like the forces that have held Pakistan in a state of instability will continue to do so for some more time. Nawaz would have tarnished his credibility had he stuck with the PPP after their blatant refusal to reinstate the judges.

Re: Brilliant Move Nawaz!

Me too I have forgiven NS for his past mistakes. He is standing up for principles which is a good sign.

Re: Brilliant Move Nawaz!

I don't trust Zardari. Zardari is unreliable. He promised Fahim the PM role and then backtracked and then reached Murree accord with NS in front of the whole of Pakistan and then backtracked. How can anyone believe Zardari anymore?

He is worried about the Judges looking at NRO from which he benefitted by having the cases against him withdrawn.

Re: PML-N decides to quit from cabinet

Folks just don't vote on a single issue...rather on the collective or of the essence of a party's manifesto...

PS: In my opinion, judges issue is less important than roti, pani, health and education of people...
