GUJRANWALA: Pakistan Muslim League-N Quaid Mian Nawaz Sharif announced on Monday to call off the long march. He congratulated the whole nation over the reinstatement of deposed judges.
Addressing a charged long march rally here, Nawaz termed the restoration of Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry a big success and a prelude to positive change.
He said Justice Iftikhar did not bow down to the dictator.
He said that the decision to call off the long march has been made after consultations with Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Qazi Hussain Ahmed, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chief Imran Khan and Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) President Ali Ahmed Kurd.

This was a brave fight. Who would have known these lawyers would put up such a magnificent effort for such a long time. There was a time when they were beaten, tortured, even poisoned by Musharraf’s henchman. May 12th was another black incident ordered by Musharraf through of his terrorist allies, but that did not stop these brave men. They have their own heroes, who fought relentlessly, Aitezaz, Munir Malik, and Kurd. They got all the support they deserved from the civil society, the brave and defying media, and last but not least the awami leaders. Nawaz Sharif’s support ensured that the measures taken to stop this movement does not diminish it. He delivered in the end, in a matter of hours into the Long March, when scores of people marched and those blockades and containers along with the police deployed just vanished. This is the first time in a long time that the people’s power was put to show and it delivered! Hats off to all the heroes!
Long live the independence of judiciary!

What if Zardari, at the last moment backs off? and appoint a new CJ??? and tells the nation that, new CJ has been appointed by "Democratically'' elected President and with suggestions of its allies i.e. Fazlu urf Molana Diesel and Thugs of MQM...
Nawaz Sharif never expected all this to happen till noon. There were 500 or so people at his model town residence and all the roads were blocked to an extent that even ambulances could not move. He came out and as the news spread people started joining him from nowhere and by evening the whole city including women, children, normal folks who never took part in any political rally were a part of the procession.
People had come out for the restoration of judiciary and not Nawaz Sharif. If the government had taken one more day, I think they would have seen unprecedented crowds today and it would have been impossible for the state machinery to control the situation. Thanks God sense prevailed and PM declared restoration of Judiciary at v hours in the morning and averted such situation.
Congrats to people of Pakistan who stood up for a true issue and not for any chor individual. Today we are all proud to be Pakistanis.
Let's hope the laaaaaang maaaaaarch continues to Islamabad and beyond. They should proceed to Attock, Nowshera, Swabi, Dargai, Mingora, Loisam, Matta, Mir ali, Wana etc

Why don't you suggest your boss kala bhoot from Londong to start a laaaang maaaaarch from Karachi to Attock, Nowshera, Swabi, Dargai, Mingora, Loisam, Matta, Mir ali, Wana etc. against the taliban....oh I am sorry I forgot he never comes back from London and never takes part in public gatherings himselfand relies on telephonic technologies....auuur auuur auuur auuuuuuuuur auuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuur...
Atleast he can ask his slaves in Karachi to start the laaaaaang maaaaaarch next time he makes his telephonic khitab, I am sure you will consider forwarding this suggestion to him...people of Pakistan expect something positive from him also atleast once in his life...

A success yes, but i wouldn't get my hopes up just yet. I have a feeling there was ambiguity in the language used to order restoration of CJ.
Does the restoration mean pre-Nov. 2? Or anew? And by agreeing to implement CoD, haven't the two parties basically decided to wash the slate clean of all old Justices then? So this is a temporary restoration?

I'm not setting my hopes high either but very likley CJ Ifti will resume his position once CJ Dogar retires but for how long he remains CJ is something we'll only see down the road.
The restoration is weird, they aren't going to (as they are not able to) strike down the PCO of Nov 3, 2007 and Ch Iftikhar will not take new oath, which is mind boggling.
bravo to the people who were part of this movement, a step finally in the right direction!
