PM candidate: Asif/Amin Fahim clash, Amin says strong candidate (Merged)

Re: PM candidate: Amin Faheem or surprise candidate? (merged)

I hope you are right. But I have my doubts. People like Aitizaz Ahsan will have their odd days, but feudal lords and dynasties are here to stay in Pakistan, unfortunately.

Re: PM candidate: Amin Faheem or surprise candidate? (merged)

I am not so pessimistic Aalsi...without defending the political parties on whatever wrong exists in them...the rise of MQM in Karachi and recent rise of PML N in urban Punjab shows atleast the trend...the candidates put forward by these parties could never have imagined that they could be elected as MNAs...people like Saad Rafique or Sardar Ayaz come from modest back grounds...the later I know very well roams around in Lahore hospitals and helps the poorest of the poorest patients in dire needs...and find donors to help them in their time of hardship...similarly I know some of the candidates put forward by MQM are extremely decent people...even PPP has some quality people elected from their platform...PML Q was the worse example of following money and criminal capabilities...and was eventually rejected by electorate...

The problem now is the leadership in these parties....they have to get rid of these life time qauids...cult like personality worship....and I believe as a nation we are capable of making this evolution....if the process is allowed to continue....without any adventurist derailing it for another eight years by destroying every institution in the country...

Re: PM candidate: Amin Faheem or surprise candidate? (merged)

Yazdi bhaijan. I agree. No doubt there a good people in all parties, and many of these MNA's will indeed do good work or ccontinue to do good in their constituencies.

With regards to your second paragraph, I hope you are right. But I can't see anything happening for the next 20-30 years, depending on what the children of the current leaders do? My thoughts are based on the fact that the political leaders have created such a niche and following for themselves and cleverly integrated their brothers and children in the leadership that it will take a long long time to eradicate. For example, I cannot see Sindh ever moving away from Bhutto name, with Bilawal at the age of 19 already appointed successor after Zardari who will remain the PPP leader for a very long time. The Sharif's with the letter 'N' in PML will always have their place at the top table of their party. I am sure Sharif children will come to fore in due course and claim their staus at the parties echelon.

The Pakistani electorate will continue to vote for the party leaders that would be put in front of them. Nothing will change until the political parties themselves change.

Well we can not say anything until we give a chance to the system....that's the only way where we can hope that there will be change in our country....ever...

During my last visit to India...a few months ago...people were upbeat that their President was a Muslim...Prime Minister a sikh....and leader of the ruling party a neutralised Indian citizen of catholic faith....in a hindu dominated country...all made possible due to years of evolution which took place in their society...

Judiciary is so strong there that a few years ago they decided that most of the commercial buildings in Dehli were illegal....if you go today to Dehli all these bulidings which included multi billion rupees commercial ventures are gone...and most of them belonged to very infulential political people...you do not see smoke emitting public transport vehicles plying on Dehli roads today thanks to a court order passed a few years ago...while a ban on rickshaws in Lahore which was to be implemented 3 years ago in Lahore is no where in sight...

What's the difference between us and them...a same country divided only sixty years ago...the difference is only strong institutions....and rule of law...and military adventurists...

The other day I was reading about the success story of Indian raliways...they posted a surplus of $ 6.2 under Lallo without increasing the fares...they used to make a huge loss before...now this guy comes from lowest cast from Bihar...but had a strong pressure to perform...as he was accountable to people...and now they are talking about completely revamping the whole Indain Railways with their new found prosperity...

Mustafa Kamal and Shahbaz Sharif performed when they were given an opportunity...because they had to face people...while Pervaiz Elahi was unable to deliver because he had to please only his military masters through chamchagiri...he had a lot of funds at his disposal much more than Shahbaz Sharif...but in the end could not deliver...work going on under his supervision was really grossly ineffecient...bad quality, lot of delays, massive corruption etc. and instead of getting votes from these projects they got public anger..

I'll give you the example of Lahore Kasur road where the construction started 5 years ago...still this 40 km long stretch is half complete....never during these five years Mr. Pervaiz Elahi came once to check what was going on...there are six national assembly seats on the road where most of the cycle candidates got their security money forfeited...money was there...but there was no mangement...it's bad quality, lot of waste of public money, half of the people commuting on the road or residing in the area are probably suffering from TB because of the ordeal they had face for last five years...in contrast Shahbaz Sharif in two and half years of CM ship was able to manage his work very effeciently and took personal interest in the management of his projects....and was able to deliver quality with efficiency...

Re: PM candidate: Amin Faheem or surprise candidate? (merged)

And Im a witness to it :k: Good example!

Re: PM candidate: Amin Faheem or surprise candidate? (merged)

Ahmad Mukhtar getting closer to gain final nomination for PM slot...final decision will be announced very soon...a lot of channels including Geo have started speculating on the possibility of final decision in favour of Ahmad Mukhtar...

Re: PM candidate: Amin Faheem or surprise candidate? (merged)

Mashallah. Another Chaudhary from Gujrat. :k:

Also, if Pakistan ever gets into recession I am sure Chaudhary Ahmad Mukhtar will print more money as he suggested when he was the Commerce Minister in BB’s govt.

Re: PM candidate: Amin Faheem or surprise candidate? (merged)

That was I think Makhdoom Shahab ud din I guess…and not Ahmad Mukhtar…

PM candidate: Amin Faheem or surprise candidate? (merged)

What is happening to the beloved PPP.

The selection process for the PM within PPP is even taking its toll on stalwarts like Fahim, that he feels he is being humiliated and betrayed.

Is the delay in naming the PM causing a rift within PPP?

http://thenews.jang.com.pk/top_story_detail.asp?Id=13435

**‘I am being humiliated, betrayed’ **

Until recently the frontrunner for the slot of PPP’s prime minister, Makhdoom Amin Fahim says unnecessary delay in the announcement of the prime minister’s name was causing some disturbance within the party and “there is a feeling on the streets that I am being insulted, humiliated and betrayed”.

In a frank and candid interview to The News, the veteran PPP leader gave a valuable piece of advice to the new party co-chairman: “Mr Zardari should try to keep the PPP intact by avoiding splits in its ranks till the time Bilawal Bhutto Zardari takes over the command of the party from him.”

In what appeared to be some sort of veiled threat, Makhdoom Amin Fahim disclosed that if he was not given the post of the prime minister, “I have a roadmap in my mind, but I would reveal it only once the decision about the name of the prime minister is announced.”

He refused to elaborate when asked what he meant by a “map”. But, it was quite clear from his conversation that he was mentally prepared to hear the news that he was not being nominated for the prime minister.

The straight talk by Makhdoom Amin Fahim came almost simultaneously when top PPP sources were quietly talking about elevating Fahim to the post of the president of Pakistan. One option being studied by the top leadership was to make him the presidential candidate in a future scenario, which only the leadership envisages at this point.

Fahim, otherwise known as a man of few words, however, made it clear that “neither would he like to see the PPP losing him nor he would lose the party of ZAB and Benazir Bhutto”. But, in the same breath, he talked about the map in his mind.

Appearing to have been greatly disappointed, Fahim seemed ready to hear the bad news. Since Feb 18, keeping his calm, he has been silently watching the intriguing proceedings in the ranks of the PPP with his lips sealed.

Despite provocative questions from the media, Fahim has refused to get dragged into any controversy. He even remained silent when three prime ministerial hopefuls from the Punjab were quietly advanced to block his nomination.

But Asif Zardari’s decision not to consult and let the central executive committee (CEC) take a decision and preference to meetings with district MNAs seems to have finally forced him to break his silence and assert his voice.

While on Friday Zardari was busy in meeting divisional MPs of the NWFP and Sindh to get a “sense” about who should be the prime minister, Fahim took the flight to Karachi, clearly distancing himself from the process of consultations launched by Zardari.

In response to questions by this correspondent, Fahim made it clear that he did not have any rivalry with Zardari, as he was the first man in the CEC at Naudero to stand up, shake hands and congratulate him on his elevation as the party chief.

“I don’t expect from Asif that he would bring someone else as the prime minister forcibly,” said Amin Fahim. When asked if he had directly talked to Asif Zardari over the issue of the prime minister, Fahim surprisingly said: “So far both of us did not find the time to sit and discuss this issue.”

However, he made it clear that Asif himself did not want to become prime minister and he had said so many times. But, Fahim said the need of the hour was that Asif should leave a strong and united PPP for his son Bilawal to take over. “Asif should not create rifts in the party.”

When asked whether he thought he was being insulted or humiliated by the party leaders by not naming him as the prime minister, Amin Fahim said: “There is a feeling on the streets that I am being insulted and humiliated.”

**Likewise, when questioned whether he thinks he was also being betrayed as Asif himself had announced at Naudero that he would be the PPP prime minister, Fahim gave a short reply: “This is also a feeling on the streets that I was being betrayed.”

**Replying to a question about his rifts with personal friends and now prime minister hopefuls – Shah Mehmud Qureshi, Yousuf Raza Gillani and Ahmed Mukhtar – Fahim replied that he did not have any problem with them as they were just good friends. “I have personal regards for all of them, especially Yousuf Raza Gillani.”

Fahim, however, made it clear that he was not used to lobbying within the party for the sake of the prime minister’s post. “I did not meet anyone to seek support, as everybody knows my credentials.”

He then admitted that unnecessary delay in the announcement of the name for the prime minister was causing some disturbance within the party. “Look at the ANP which has announced even the names and departments of their ministers but we are delaying the whole process,” he said and hastened to add: “The current process of consultation in the PPP might also be taken as a democratic tradition.”

Fahim said he was inducted in the PPP by ZAB and Benazir Bhutto always gave him due respect. “We are used to get respect. I never made any group. The PPP itself is my lobby. Me and PPP are one. I have given blood for the party and served it with both heart and mind.”

Fahim dismissed allegations levelled by some low-ranking party officials that he had been meeting with some top guns without the knowledge and prior information of Asif Zardari. “Asif always knows what I am doing and with whom I am meeting and where,” Fahim made a categorical statement.

He said Asif should make a clear and loud demand from President Musharraf to summon the session of the National Assembly so that the democratic process could proceed and the transfer of power could take place.

Re: ‘I am being humiliated, betrayed’ - Fahim.

PPP was founded by Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto in 1967. Many powerful including Zia, NS, Mush etc tried to break this party but they never succeeded. Why, because ZAB lives in the hearts of millions. As long he is alive in the hearts, koi mai ka laal PPP ko torh nahin sakta. Haan woh khod toot jaay ga. samjhay mere bhai:D

Re: ‘I am being humiliated, betrayed’ - Fahim.

Seems like Zardari has taken over the dectership from late Benezir!!! he won't go for merit!!

Fahim should be made primeminister!!!

He is the most loyal karkun of PPP and deserves to be nominated for PM.

Re: ‘I am being humiliated, betrayed’ - Fahim.

Amin Fahim sahib is without a doubt the best candidate at this time

Re: ‘I am being humiliated, betrayed’ - Fahim.

^ agree with both the above posts.

PM candidate: Amin Faheem or surprise candidate? Asif/Ameen clash (merged)

I hope these two guys are not on war path. They should always remember the sacrifices given by the Bhutto family. They themselves suffered a lot for the sake of the party.

Sky will not fall upon Amin Fahim if he is not chosen to be PM. To be honest, Pakistan needs a strong PM, for which there is none but Aitezaz Ahsan the most suitable candidate. PPP may choose any from three candidates, Yousaf Raza Gilani, Shah Mahmmood Qureshi and Ahmad Mukhtar for interim PM till Aitezaz Ahsan gets elected. I think this time PM from PPP should be from Punjab.

‘Clash’ between Asif, Fahim averted

By Ashraf Mumtaz
LAHORE, March 8: A meeting of the Alliance for the Restoration of Democracy, hurriedly called by its president Makhdoom Amin Fahim for Sunday, was called off on Saturday reportedly after some PPP leaders intervened to ‘avert a political clash’ between the ARD chief and the PPP co-chairman.

“Thank God, we have averted an imminent political clash between Mr Fahim and Mr Zardari,” said an ARD leader associated with the PPP.

“Had the meeting been held, the participants would have supported Mr Fahim’s candidature for the office of prime minister, as a result of which the gulf between the ARD leader and Mr Zardari would have widened,” he remarked.

He said some PPP leaders, especially those belonging to Sindh, had played an important role in resolving the situation amicably.

The PPP is a component of the ARD. However, some reports had quoted Mr Zardari as saying that his party had nothing to do with Sunday’s meeting.

Another ARD leader said that Mr Fahim was not competent to call the session. He recalled that Mr Fahim had stepped down as the coalition’s chairman after Ms Benazir Bhutto’s return to the country.

Mr Fahim could not call a meeting without consulting the secretary-general. The secretary-general, he claimed, was not even aware of the meeting.

Yet another leader said it was the PPP’s prerogative, not the ARD’s, to select its candidate for the prime minister’s office.

Re: ‘Clash’ between Asif, Fahim averted

Amin Fahim has already said he is being betrayed and humiliated by the PPP leaders.

Re: ‘Clash’ between Asif, Fahim averted

Aitzaz Ahsan is a fool! He is not supported in Pakistan as much as Ameen Fahim. Once judges issue is over, lets see where aitzaz stands.

Re: PM candidate: Amin Faheem or surprise candidate? Asif/Ameen clash (merged)

Guys, please use one thread for Asif, Ameen Fahim (PPP PM candidate) instead of opening a separate thread everytime there is an update about any of these people on same issue.

why Makhdoom amin fahim for PM?

Tv surveys, talk shows, analyst and even a common man on street wants amin fahim to be the PM but why dont people discuss other candidates in the race.I agree makhdoom amin fahim has a relatively clean past record without any allegations of corruption, respected by the political circles, ppp loyalist being with the party for the last 40 years!,heads ppp parliamentarians and is number 2 after zardari in the ppp seniority list.

There are reasons why he shouldnot be the PM

PML N the coalition partner has reservations over his candidature why select a divisive figure??

PPP wants to strenghten itself in punjab and especially central punjab a guy like ahmed mukhtar who is from gujrat can bring influentials to the party, shah mahmood who is from south punjab is ppp punjab president and should be aware of the political situation in punjab.

Punjab CM will be from pml n and looks like shahbaz sharif will head the province and he will strenghen his party in punjab which is pml n’s powerbase that will further isolate ppp in the province

shah mahmood qureshi is more presentable and eloquent then amin fahim, ahmed mukhtar has been the commerce minister and can understand the economic issues better than amin fahim.

zardari seems to be a consensus candidate in ppp and even the other candidates like shah mahmood, ahmed mukhtar and yousuf raza geelani all support his candidature.

If there is a consensus in the ppp over zardari then zardari should be the pm. The fact is ppp has the majority and when the majority of ppp legislators, pml n alongwith anp and jui fazal all are ready to support zardari why amin fahim then???

P.S.
PPP’s candidate for the 2002 elections for the pm in absence of benazir was not amin fahim but shah mahmood ! http://www.dawn.com/2002/11/21/top2.htm
I know the situation was different then but why did shah mahmood was selected at teh last moment???

Re: why Makhdoom amin fahim for PM?

I just heard on ary, Chaudhry someone is named the PM.
