Pizza Dough Recipe [merged w/ niksik's thread]

Please post recipe (exact measurements) for a good crusty pizza dough. Oh please recipes that call for flour only, I tried Bisquick pizza dough & it was a bit yukky. I also tried some recipe that calls for just flour & water, but it felt like something was missing??? Help!!!

Ooh and some ideas for what cheese to use/toppings/sauce would help also. Thanks.

re: Pizza Dough Recipe [merged w/ niksik's thread]

Here is the recipe that I use and apparently pizza is the only thing I make the best..

Dough

-Half cup warm water

-In a bowl, add 1tbsp yeast granules, 1 tsp baking powder, and half cup warm water.. mix well (You should see bubbles)

In another bowl add,

4 cups plain flour
1 tsp salt
3 tbsp butter (60-80gm)
1 egg
Knead it with hands

Then add the yeast/water mixture to it

Knead it again- dough shouldn't be soft (if it's too hard then add 2-3 tbsp of water)
Sprinkle plain flour on dough while kneading it

and then cover the dough with damp cloth for an hour!

Sauce

-Heat oil in a pan
-add ginger/garlic paste- fry a lil
-add tomato puree, rosemary, oregano, and salt
-cook it well
-Add black and white pepper

For toppings my fav is tandori chicken,

-heat the oil in a pan
-Add 1 tbsp ginger/garlic paste, chopped boneless chicken, salt, garam masala, zeera powder, and yogurt
-and just bhonofy it a bit

Cheese: I have always used mozzarella, I dun think if I would actually try another cheese anytime soon though!!

I am craving pizza now :-(

My recipe is similar to the one posted above.

Ingredients

*300g self raising flour
*150g butter
*1 egg
*milk and water to bind it together

1- Rub the butter into the flour until it resembles breadcrumbs.
2- Add salt, crushed pepper and chilli flakes, if desired
3- Beat the egg and add to the flour mixture. Stir in.
4- Use milk to bind all the dry ingredients together. Kneading as you go along. If you so wish, you can bind it together with water too. Milk makes it a little richer.
5- Knead until the bowl is left clean and set aside to rise to rise a little for an hour or so.

The dough keeps well in the fridge too.

For the sauce I normally take a can of chopped tomatoes. Heat it up. Add lemon juice, paprika, salt and some dried herbs and warm through.

Mozzarella works best for pizza. Cheddar cheese is a good alternative if you do not have mozzarella at hand.

Toppings wise, it is limitless.

One which always goes down well is spinach and mozzarella, and about 5 mins before taking it out, crack open an egg onto the nearly cooked pizza (or a few depending on how big the pizza is) and let the egg cook through.

Chicken/peppers/sundried tomatoes/mushrooms/sweetcorn/tomatoes/cheese/red onions or any onion/keema/spinach/shredded cabbage/egg/tuna/jalapenos/mini koftayaa

re: Pizza Dough Recipe [merged w/ niksik's thread]

Gemini, you add both baking soda & yeast? How is the crust? Is it flaky & crispy or does it get puffy? Please advise. I made pizza crust using 2 cups flour, 1 teaspoon yeast, 2 tablespoons olive oil, 1/2 teaspoon sugar...
basically took 3/4 cup warm water and added the yeast and sugar to it until dissolved. THen I mixed this into the dough, plus the olive oil. A made dough thats a little sticky & elastic. Then i covered for about 1 hour and it rose a little. Then i rolled it out & made pizza....i rolled it thin for thin crust, but it came out pretty good......still not like the store but a decent crust. I really want to get a crust like a typical pizza place. I think i'll try your recipe next time, i didnt have any baking soda. Also i didnt have time so i just used prego sauce with fresh veggies. Oooh i should post some pics

Re: Urgent!!! Need Pizza dough recipe

buy the ready made dough :D

re: Pizza Dough Recipe [merged w/ niksik's thread]

Afro... Don't use baking soda but the baking powder.. and yes it makes a difference because baking soda makes the dough bitter in taste..I liked the crust and just the fact that I can make halal chicken pizza at home, I dun even compare the crust to the stores ones.. yeah for me it's all about chicken :D

Do let me know how you like the crust :-)

re: Pizza Dough Recipe [merged w/ niksik's thread]

re: Pizza Dough Recipe [merged w/ niksik's thread]

looks like afro-sheen and niksik are looking to make pizza's this weekend :D
ladies...your your threads have been merged
.

I tried your recipe Gemini and it turned out great…thanks.

Did a little modification, I used whole wheat with plain flour..i.e. 3 cups of whole wheat +1 cup maida .

This was my second attempt at whole wheat pizza base and this time was much better than my first one.

I should have rolled the dough a little thinner, but the taste was fine nonetheless.

Ladies, becareful with cheeses that you use for your pizza toppings or other dishes. I just recently found out that most of them contain ‘Rennet’ which is an enzyme that is processed from a part of cow’s stomach. It can be plant based but most companies use the animal anzymes! You can read about it here: Rennet - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
