The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has sought clarification from chief selector Moin Khan, on tour with the Pakistan World Cup squad, over his visit to a casino before the crucial match against the West Indies, PCB chairman Shahryar Khan said in a press conference in Lahore on Monday.
Moin served as Pakistan’s manager and chief selector before the World Cup but relinquished one post on the condition that he would be permitted to travel with the team. The move surprised many and his presence has reportedly become a bone of contention for the players and the team management.
Khan said the PCB would not jump to a conclusion on the issue before studying all the facts.
“We are looking at the facts and will make a judgement only after everything is clear. As the reports suggest he went to the casino before the West Indies match. I think it was rather inappropriate before a crucial game. But as I said, we will pass a judgement only after studying the facts,” Khan said.
Khan rubbished reports stating Moin would be summoned back to Pakistan over the incident and said the Board was fully behind the team.
“We are aware of all the criticism the team has been subjected to after their loses. But we just want the team to shake off negativity and perform without any pressure whatsoever. We fully support then.”
Khan also dismissed speculation that the team was divided into groups.
“I’ve spoken to Waqar Younis, Misbah-ul-Haq, Moin Khan and even the team manager. Reports stating that there are rifts within the team are completely baseless. The team held a meeting today and everyone is rejuvenated after that session and completely united.”
Pakistan’s World Cup campaign was first rocked by allegations of unrest when reports claimed that fielding coach Grant Luden was involved in a heated row with senior players.
Two days prior to the big game against India., eight Pakistan players, including former captain Shahid Afridi and opener Ahmed Shehzad, were fined US $230 each after violating a curfew put in place by team manager Naveed Akram Cheema.
Cheema, a former military man, claimed the players arrived 45 minutes late after a night out in Sydney.

It's not our business what anybody does in their personal time. But Moin Khan has definitely been caught at the wrong time. Plus his history with such things doesn't help his cause either. If the Pakistani team was winning I'm sure no one would have cared but now everybody will be under scrutiny.

I personally think the chief selector has no business in travelling with the team. Plus, everything is being leaked to the media...there needs to be some control!

re: PCB probing Moin's casino visit: Shahryar Khan/ recalled back from Aus

Several players were also suspected of going to the bathroom before big games.

What the what? Leave them alone. They are allowed some private down time.

re: PCB probing Moin's casino visit: Shahryar Khan/ recalled back from Aus

He's a professional on an official tour, not on personal holiday! He still needs to follow the official guidelines and code of conduct.

If night life is prohibited on international tours by the PCB management, then it is prohibited, and no one should be allowed to break the 'curfew'. Before anyone gives example of English teams, let that be clear that most of their 'evening drinks' sessions are a part of team activity planned and authorised by their management. They are professional players that have private lives outside of their contracted work hours. They are not desperate wackos who wait for international tours to taste that infinitely tempting forbidden fruit that is clubbing and drinking (and girls) for Pakistani players.

Not really, as you can read below he forced his condition (the fact that he could force a condition is another sad state of affairs), his post was not entitled to travel with team.

Other than that, he may visit a fortune teller or a brothel for all we care, but if you are going as a professional with your team then you must watch your every step.

MOIN KHAN: HANGAMA HAI KYON BARPA

re: PCB probing Moin's casino visit: Shahryar Khan/ recalled back from Aus

pathetic....

i mean you can go anywhere you want to....but this man is out there representing pakistan. it is the biggest cricketing event. as a team, we have a tainted history of fixing matches and this man personally has a tainted past.....and among all places he decided to to go to a casino. i mean he shd have some common sense!

most likley, there will be nothing serious..may be just joined bunch of folks from different teams who decided to visit this casino...but he needs to be careful.

re: PCB probing Moin’s casino visit: Shahryar Khan/ recalled back from Aus

Dude he did the best of selection Pakistan has ever seen.. now he deserves a break… I think wut we need to wonder is that how much he has earned out of Pakistani losses that he has to spend it in Casinos.. :hmmm:

re: PCB probing Moin's casino visit: Shahryar Khan/ recalled back from Aus

Of course these things will be more in spot light in absence of performance from Pakistani team. Moin is STUPID if he is visiting casinos in such situation.

What if he went there just to eat... Like a,seafood buffet or something?? Casinos have extensive buffets and a good variety of seafood. You don't have to play to eat.

re: PCB probing Moin's casino visit: Shahryar Khan/ recalled back from Aus

LOL @ Seafood buffet ....cute. Thats what I tell begum every time i go to Vegas :D

I think we are talking about common sense. Why not use your head and not attract more -ive attention? You are the MANAGER of the team. you should know whats politically correct and whats not.

LOL @ Seafood buffet …cute

Hey why not.. I read he went.there to eat No kidding. Bechara :frowning:

re: PCB probing Moin's casino visit: Shahryar Khan/ recalled back from Aus

It's not just about political correctness. It seems like a completely unauthorised trip. When you are on a such a high profile trip in a foreign country, you cannot just let your players/official wander off anywhere without telling anybody or having their visits authorised. It's basic health and safety! For example, you may love your drinks but you are not allowed to roam around in Johannesburg in the middle of night for anything. Simple as that. Why can't these desperate dolts get these basic things straight? What exactly is so difficult to understand.

Likes of Moin (and Shoaib Akhtar) nothing but bunch of free riders who act like repressed dotards the moment they are out of country. I mean you earn enough money, go bloody book yourself some holiday and do all that crap in your time, not on official visits!

re: PCB probing Moin's casino visit: Shahryar Khan/ recalled back from Aus

Of course, I was assuming that he did not breach any other rules (like team curfew etc)

re: PCB probing Moin's casino visit: Shahryar Khan/ recalled back from Aus

There is a team curfew, and there is a team curfew for team India and all the other teams as well. It is all part of basic health and safety and security. I just read how only for yesterday night, Indian team curfew was relaxed by their management and the *whole team *was allowed to go out and celebrate their win against South Africa. Fair enough. But like I said before, in other teams going out is a team activity done under management's nose. But the never ending issue in Pakistan team is that you always have two or three players (in this case an official) who think they are above all the rules and laws. They think they look cool by acting like desperate rebels.

mulla do-pyaza [sitting on two PCB posts] to juaarii [gamber] nikle! :cb: PCB ko to jo jawaab deNge so deNge hii par Allah MiyaaN ko kia jawaab deNge? :bummer:

re: PCB probing Moin’s casino visit: Shahryar Khan/ recalled back from Aus

seems like he was playing/enjoying at **3am a night before WI game **

If this is true, he should be disciplined right away. How can be be in casino playing (or anywhere else) at 3am a night before game?

re: PCB probing Moin's casino visit: Shahryar Khan/ recalled back from Aus

There is not anything wrong with him being in Casino.
Only thing that should be of concern if he did betting on Pak vs West Indies game. Even that is ok if he is not part of Pakistani Cricket setup anymore and betting is legal there.

re: PCB probing Moin's casino visit: Shahryar Khan/ recalled back from Aus

the way our team have played so far, it seems that they don't go to bathroom before leaving for the field, hence, once they are in the field, they do their best to go back to bathroom
