Re: Paper Plates
Isn’t that awesome for you? Are we to follow in your footsteps now? I cannot wait to go home and try this out philo…you’re like totally a genius!
Yeah okay…so here’s the thing:
People don’t have to like what you like. People don’t need to prefer what you prefer.
I live in the US - we don’t have kaam walis here so guess who does the dishes? Surprise surprise: We do!
My point was simply - I dislike doing dishes and I am really confused as to why you think your experiment might change that…lol. Much like some don’t like cleaning toilets or making roti or ironing or some other chore they may not be crazy about.
It seems like your point was that you get manicures too? ![]()
I thought I’d at *least *respond since you took out so much time to actually go, think about this outside of GS, take off your gloves, do your chores, observe your fingers, come back to GS and look up this thread and then respond to it.
Bravo!
Re: Paper Plates
personally i do not like paper plates at all for dawats. i dont encourage my mum doing it for dawats although we do use normal plates AND keep some plastic plates at the side for lil kids (some adults take em too) this is for big dawats. with 30 ppl or more. we get a maid to clean up later- no dishwasher.
for day to day use, my youngest sister uses plastic cups as she is lazy to wash the glass ones. annoying

LOL... cz there's really no...um...debate with sexual assault. Everyone pretty much knows it's bad.
Paper plates on the other hand...... it's not a crime..... it's not a moral issue....hence, more variety of comments on it?

87 replies. On paper plates. There is something wrong with a culture that can generate 87 replies on paper plates.
Are household details all that we women are about?? What happened to the 1960's and 1970's brand of feminism in Pakistan? I doubt the heroines of Tanhaayan and Sitara Mehrunissa talked about paper plates.
Paper Plates

If there's a lot of cooking, I end up spending more time washing dishes than cooking, somehow. I will remember this "paper plate" tip the next time. Something good did come out of this thread!!
I love my paper plates but I don't know why I didn't think of this either! Was wasting all my nice Macy's plates on little tasks! Something good did come out of this thread...
Re: Paper Plates
my mom and i always get into this argument. she doesnt think its formal enough to use paper plates even at a large gathering. i believe convenience is more important than seeming "formal"

It can depend on the gathering/function and the company. Paper plates at a wedding....no. In-laws visiting.....paper plates?....no. If it's like one or two families....regular plates are no big deal. So, it varies.
Re: Paper Plates
in laws visiting, plates laced with laxative ![]()
Re: Paper Plates
btw, this thread still going ![]()

sorry if it you bothered you.
But you had time to read it and determine it was taken personally...really philo? Try to make sense next time...especially when you respond multiple time to the same post, claim to experiment at home about it, come back to post about it and then pretend..."ooooh...I have no taime to respaaand". Yes...lack of common sense bothers me. Sorry if that bothers you ;)
Re: Paper Plates
no to paper plates..sorry but it does look rather chavvy!
Re: Paper Plates
so is nobody worried about the state of the earth and conserving resources?
is everyone so worried about washing dishes afterwards or convenience that we don't give two hoots about green living and conserving energy for our children?
one more thing......did someone say that they use paper plates in prep work for cooking???? really????
Re: Paper Plates
Muzna ppl save water and electricity/gas (when warm water is used on greasy dishes and in winter). That also helps the planet.
Re: Paper Plates
I dont' think this issue has ever come up in my life..... I dont recall my mom using them but then we never had giant parties.....also I've never really hosted a davat in my own home. On the other hand, I have used paper plates to help in cooking (like putting breadcrumbs to coat food, putting the choppecd veggies on em etc)
I can appreciate the sentiment behind using china for kids + giant parties.....however, it's still your own preference to use it..
What is concerning is when one starts to think they're better than someone else for not using paper plates, or thinks that the person who's using paper plates is not as hospitable, a bad host, cheap, lazy, whatever.
You don't have the right to look down on someone because they choose to exercise an option that makes THEIR life easier.
I agree, I think it is bad to look down on other people, however think that one must always rigorously assess whether they are fulfilling their duties as a good host and don't think that being stringent with your own actions and making sure that your guest is respected as greatly as possible is at all a bad thing. I mean, you wouldn't invite your guests to a house that was dirty, and just cover the floor with newspaper because you couldn't be bothered to vacuum the floor (i hope). Nor would you sit around, expecting everyone to pour the food out the pans you had cooked them in, into serving dishes and serve themselves while you filed your nails.
Of course these are extreme examples I have given, but the point I'm trying to make is that we all have our own criteria of what makes a good host and we all have our own limits of what is acceptable, and pretending that we don't is a bit sanctimonious.
We do also judge others, no matter how much we claim we don't, for example if a friend invited me to their house for dinner at 7, then served me at 10.30 (this has happened to me before), against my best intentions, I would definitely judge them for it. I know I shouldn't, but I do. We all have different ideas of what is hospitality and what makes a good host.
In my humble opinion, paper plates and tardiness do not a good host make.
