Paper Plates

Re: Paper Plates

I'm afraid that no matter what you do you will not be able to win the argument of paper plates over saving energy because when it comes to renewable resources, disposable plates, utensils, etc are all far more damaging than using electricity or gas to heat water to wash plates. Ultimately it's not just about washing them....it has to do with how they end up in land fills and then how those land fills affect our planet and so on, and so on.....

Re: Paper Plates

Lame joke:

"Let's do the dishes."
"They are paper plates!"
"right, you scrape and I'll erase".

I agree with Muzna and don't think that we can justify using paper plates from energy saving or go green point of views. It's purely a convenience factor

Re: Paper Plates

I see your point....BUT to me those things you've listed come under..common sense? timeliness, cleanliness, good food, etc? Whereas paper plates, really depends on the situation.....

Re: Paper Plates

I don't think people use paper plates on a daily basis here. I use paper plates when we have a large party to host for because we don't have the cabinet space to house such a large # of plates and keep them on hand all the time. Its a lot of work and I try to eliminate some of it. Cooking, cleaning, all the prep work and then 60+ dishes to be washed before and after plus pots and pans...

Re: Paper Plates

Styrofoam is terrrible wrt environment. Doesn't degrade. Back me up, Mr. Monk.

Re: Paper Plates

Agreed. It is a lot of work.
Some folks are up to it and some aren't.

As for the storage.....we had extra cabinets installed in our garage where party plates, serving dishes and utensils that were not used for everyday were stored. Since large parties where 50+ guests were expected didn't happen more than 6-8 times per year it was not a big deal to bring those items in when needed.
