Paper Plates

Can someone tell me what is wrong with paper plates?

Why is it looked down upon to have paper plates in your house?

Re: Paper Plates

Every thing. Why you want to destroy trees so you can get comfort of not washing a plate?
Get a maid I say.

PS: use regular plates, put tv on pause, get off you socks right after you eat, wash plates with cold water and no soap.
be kind to the things who live beyond your drain :phati:

Re: Paper Plates

Maybe it's the folks you hang out with that find it weird. Not sure why it should matter enough to get angry about it, but most people have both disposable plates and the other kind as well.

For larger gatherings where one doesn't want to wash a lot of dishes, use paper plates. Sometimes depending upon the company or the occasion, regular plates are more appropriate plates as it gives a more sophisticated vibe. Plus they're more durable.

Re: Paper Plates

I never knew it was looked down upon, but I've found them to be flimsy, so if I wanted disposable, I'd go with styrofoam.

Re: Paper Plates

The folks I hang out with?

No, I don't hang out with folks that look down on paper plates, I assure you.

Re: Paper Plates

Paper products are the best....

Re: Paper Plates

Why is this in Life1? PCG be on a tear!

Re: Paper Plates

its not paper plates, its solid thick plastic ones, that u see in pak :smack: u need to clean them not throw them away, the advantage is that they dont break when they fall, so good for household of kids.

they look like china plates but are made out of plastic.

in pakistan, mostly poor ppl eat out of them, as they cannot afford china, porcelan, so they are kind of looked down on.

Re: Paper Plates

In Paki, my dadi looked down upon plastic bar tan b/c they used chandi ke bar tan.. lmao! totally weird...

Anyways, i can not imagine being w/o my styrofoam plates. Even though we are only two people in the house.

remind me never to eat food at your place

Re: Paper Plates

PCG who looks down on paper plates?

Re: Paper Plates

Or eat right outta the pot. That’d save some more water, soap and environment.

Re: Paper Plates

firstly, it gives me the feeling that the dwellers of the house are terribly lazy who can't wash plates even in a dishwasher and, secondly, i feel they are backwards.

Re: Paper Plates

Personally I don't like paper plates, I prefer eating in china. I am not too fond of washing dishes, therefore when renting apartment, I made sure we have a dish washer.

Having said that, I don't judge people who use paper plates.

Ps. Some people use paper plates for convenience, some people hire maids to wash their dishes. Nothing wrong with either approach.

Re: Paper Plates

plastic plates all the way:coolios:

Re: Paper Plates

I remember this one time we had a gathering of about 35 people at our place. It's just my mom and I who do all the cooking and cleaning at home; my brothers are useless in that department. So we decided to use disposable dishes (not paper plates which are inconvenient to eat out of and often cause a mess if not handled carefully). This one aunty minded it so much that she made a face and complained out loud. My mom was so embarrassed. Her rationale was that proper (china or porcelain) dishes are classy; plastic plates are cheap. Also, it's easier to cut food using a fork and knife if you're using proper dishes. She thinks plastic dishes should only be used for outdoor events or kids parties.

Re: Paper Plates

dance bhii karne lagiiN plastic plates kaa zikr karte hii…agar china mil jaaye to kia kareNgii?

Re: Paper Plates

ewwww…I hope you never invited her again! Gosh the replies I could think of (but never say :hehe: )
I can’t believe someone thinks they have the right to complain, when they’re invited to a davat. Granted I’ve never hosted one…but I would do what’s easy for myself, and if anyone has an issue with it, they’re free to not come.
