**Inzamam predicts victory in India: Younis, Malik named as future captain **

By Our Sports Correspondent

LAHORE, Feb 22: Skipper Inzamamul Haq on Tuesday predicted Pakistan win in both Test and One-day series against India. “The tour is tough but I predict Inshallah my team will return home with glories,” Inzamam told Dawn.

Discounting pundits’ low rating of Pakistan in Test cricket Inzamam claimed that “my boys have the ‘passion’ for victory and I see chances of it.” He said that pundits were also saying that spinners could not bring victory for any team visiting India because of India’s highly-touted batting lineup.

"Yes, I am reading news that if Shane Warne could not take wickets in India then it is hard for others also. "But I tell you it is not a criteria that if Shane Warne could not succeed on Indian soil others can not do well.

Our Saqlain Mushtaq helped Pakistan win by taking 11 wickets in a Test match in last series in India when Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis and Shoaib Akhtar were also there," Inzamam said.

“The way Danish Kaneria is bowling and our seamers performed in Australia, I believe the bowlers are capable to bowl India out twice in a Test,” he said. Inzamam blamed the poor domestic structure responsible for Pakistani batsmen caving under pressure.

“Unless and until our domestic cricket is not organized on profession lines our batsmen will continue to flop under pressure,” Inzamam asserted. He urged that the departmental cricket should be promoted as it was the only way to produce professional cricketers for the country.

“Our cricket was at peak from 1992 to 1999 and during this period we won the World Cup and played the final of another one and behind this all role was of the strong departmental cricket in which banks had major role,” he said.

Meanwhile, the decision to replaced Yousuf Youhana as vice-captain of the Pakistan cricket team has been taken to release pressure on the player. This was stated by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Shaharyar M Khan on Tuesday when he was asked there were rumours about alleged ‘match- fixing’ behind Youhana’s ouster.

“No I have no such information about Youhana and we have only taken the decision to release him from extra pressure as deputy of Inzamam,” the chairman said. The PCB had appointed Younis Khan in place of Youhana.

“After Inzamam, the board has to look for future captain and we spotted two players for that job and they are Younis Khan and Shoaib Malik. Shoaib Malik will lead Pakistan “A” touring South African later this year,” declared PCB chief.

Shaharyar said that Shoaib Malik would be appointed skipper of the Pakistan “A” team touring South Africa this year. However, skipper Inzamam was not not happy the PCB’s. “The forthcoming series against India is high profile and it would have been better if the board had maintained continuity,” Inzamam told Dawn. He said that it was the decision of the PCB.

Re: Pakistani Squad for India announced./ Full Tour dates (Page 2)

Didn't I tell you guys Malik one day will become captain. He has that grace and leadership skill. Although I am not a big fan of him, but he would be the best choice for this role in future. And that too before time, which would otherwise be delayed in the presence of Actor and Yoyo.

Re: Pakistani Squad for India announced./ Full Tour dates (Page 2)

Malik as future captain :bhangra: :hula: :nuch: :jhanda: :bhangra: :hula: :nuch:

Re: Pakistani Squad for India announced./ Full Tour dates (Page 2)

stop worrying about English yaar, just look at performance/cricket skills :k:

Re: Pakistani Squad for India announced./ Full Tour dates (Page 2)

i know yaar, but still.

Re: Pakistani Squad for India announced./ Full Tour dates (Page 2)

If you people really cared about my opinion, then please check the archives for my comments about Malik being the future Captain of Pakistan Cricket Team.

Na Na Na Nana, I told you so. I told you so!!!

Having said that,

I have to concede I was really shocked when Younis was declared VC, It really is a great Injustice to Yoyo, maybe PCB could have experimented with multiple VC’s as has been done by India in the recent past.

Re: Pakistani Squad for India announced./ Full Tour dates (Page 2)

Alas…the squad is made up of the same old losers…

But with these losers, you never know when they win a lost match dramatically and lose a winning one…lol…so the battles of moods will be enforced…lol…

In my opinion, the VC should be from the bowling department while the present Captain is from the batting department…

PS: :hula: Shahid Afridi Zindabad! :hula:

Pakistan search for harmony
By Scott Heinrich

When Shoaib Akhtar was summoned before a Pakistan medical commission last year to prove he wasn’t faking injury, his response was predictably indignant.

“I felt like I was betrayed by my own people. There were some people that just didn’t understand me,” the fast bowler said.

“If I say I’m injured then I am. No-one can judge me and tell me that I’m not.”

Such disharmony has become typical in Pakistan cricket.

Since the glory days of the 1992 World Cup, and Imran Khan’s spell as captain, the national team have grappled with the reputation of failing to fulfil their considerable potential.

So what is standing in Pakistan’s way?

There is a view that a penchant for over-reaction and in-fighting explains Pakistan’s inability to translate potential into performance.

“If people make mistakes they deserve punishment, but making big issues out of things doesn’t help,” former Pakistan leg-spinner Mushtaq Ahmed told BBC Sport.

Asian cricketers get too much freedom and sometimes we can cross the line
Mushtaq Ahmed

“Pakistan shouldn’t discuss outside of their house what happens in their bedroom.”

Perhaps two match-fixing inquiries have imposed a sense of transparency on Pakistan, but they seem quite prepared to air dirty laundry in the public eye.

The tenures of former coaches Richard Pybus and Javed Miandad were played out like soap operas.

Throughout his three spells in charge, Miandad complained of fractured relations with Pakistan Cricket Board members and a lack of communication.

Former captain Asif Iqbal said the PCB became “dictatorial”.

The 2003 World Cup failure saw Pakistan axe Pybus and eight senior players and appoint Miandad, who announced his return to the fold for another term by accusing team officials of mismanagment.

Then came the Shoaib affair following last year’s painful home defeat to India, the consequences of which included Miandad’s sacking and a parliamentary inquiry.

Captain Inzamam-ul-Haq publicly accused Shoaib of faking injury in his home Test at Rawalpindi, while the then PCB chief Rameez Raja vowed any player would be “taken to task” if the medical commission discovered anything untoward.

You never feel settled in the Pakistan team; there’s always uncertainties there
Mohammad Akram

A clutch of high-ranking former players thought the move excessive and spoke out against the PCB, and Pakistani cricket was again in the spotlight for the wrong reasons.
Now Shoaib is back in hot water over disciplinary breaches in Australia he categorically denies.

He pulled out of the forthcoming Tests in India the day after he was fined by a disciplinary panel, although he insists his decision was solely prompted by a hamstring injury.

“You never feel settled in the Pakistan team. There’s always uncertainties there,” former Pakistan paceman Mohammad Akram says.

"Pakistan should try to settle the team down and get them together before India, but unrest in the team does affect the confidence of the players.

"What the PCB is doing to Shoaib is not very nice. They should either just tell him that they don’t want him, or play him.
“It is not fair to give the players these sort of messages ahead of maybe the biggest tour of their careers.”

Mushtaq, however, says Pakistan can only improve by keeping big egos in check.

“No player is bigger than the game,” he asserts.

“What is happening there can be good for Pakistani cricket. Asian cricketers get too much freedom and sometimes we can cross the line.”

In a rare show of solidarity, the PCB stood behind coach Bob Woolmer in Australia recently after he had taken the dangerous step of criticising umpires.

It was something not afforded to either Pybus or Miandad, suggesting the PCB is serious about change.

But one senses it will only matter to Pakistan fans when performances on the field lead to the team earning a new reputation - as consistent winners.

Formbook gives edge to India

As Pakistan have not toured India since 1999, there is little recent shared form to go on to predict the outcome of their highly-anticipated Test series.
BBC Sport looks at past performance at the three venues to see how the series might go.

FIRST TEST, MOHALI, 8-12 MARCH

Batting sides either fail miserably or prosper at the ground in the suburbs of Chandigarh, just a three-hour drive from the Pakistan border.

MOHALI FACTS
Previous Tests: 5
India won 1, opp 1, draws 3
Ave 1st inns score: 353
Win toss and: bowl (3/5)

Fail to combat the early movement on offer from a seamer’s wicket, and you will be back in the pavilion quickly, as India were when New Zealand bowled them out for 83 in 1999.
Get stuck in and the fielding team can be ground into submission, as when the Kiwis declared on 630-6 in 2003.

Both sides have improving pace attacks, although India’s have a little more experience.

In the end, though, this highly-anticipated opener is statistically most likely to be a draw, as three of the five Tests here have been.

If a stalemate were to be reached it would be the first between these two sides since 1989, but the 34th in 51 encounters overall.

Verdict: Draw (Series 0-0)

SECOND TEST, CALCUTTA, 16-20 MARCH

Pakistan have played their arch-rivals on five occasions at the 100,000-capacity Eden Gardens, and won the only match that has reached a result.

CALCUTTA FACTS
Previous Tests: 33
India won 7, opp 8, draws 18
Ave 1st inns score: 318
Win toss and: bat (28/33)

Barely a soul watched as Pakistan won an Asian Test Championship match by 46 runs as the stadium was cleared after crowd trouble.
Just one Pakistan player - Yousuf Youhana - remains from that match, while as many as six survive from India.

One of those is Harbhajan Singh, who has taken five wickets in an innings there on four occasions, including twice in a match against Australia in 2001.

The spinner could prove the difference between the sides as the hosts take a lead in the series.

Verdict: India win (Series 1-0)

THIRD TEST, BANGALORE, 24-28 MARCH

Eight of the 10 best bowling returns at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium have been achieved by spinners, and in that regard India are superior.

BANGALORE FACTS
Previous Tests: 15
India won 4, opp 5, draws 6
Ave 1st inns score: 333
Win toss and: bat (14/15)

Pakistan’s young yet inconsistent batsmen must fire at some point in the series and the venue where they recorded their second-highest total on Indian soil might be that place.
Pakistan declared on 431-9 in the opening Test of the 1979/80 series, Mudassar Nazar making 126, but their bowlers were unable to cut through an obdurate home side.

And with a spin tandem this time that boasts just 132 Test wickets between them - Arshad Khan has 30 and Danish Kaneria 102 - the same could easily happen again.

Verdict: Draw (Series 1-0)

The number-crunching…
I hope pak will come out good against india :jhanda:

Re: Pakistani Squad for India announced./ Full Tour dates (Page 2)

Not really, Pakistan bowling attack is not good look at pakistans test history this is the best combo
they are best with 5 batter, 1 all-rounder, 1 wk, and 4 bowlers

Re: Pakistani Squad for India announced./ Full Tour dates (Page 2)

The bowling attack is the weakest ever. Only 2 pacers… and 3 spinners if Afridi is included. I would prefer having another pacer in there…
