I am trying to lose some weight. Okay. I am lying. A lot of weight. The issue is that I am sick and tired of eating the same thing over and over again and looking for some options. Usually, when I go on diet, I would eat baked chicken with tikka masala or behari masala, fruit or veg salad at dinner. I have an issue with any daals and channay which is that it troubles my stomach way too much. So much, that I cant sleep at night. I am looking for some suggestions on what you guys like to eat that would be considered healthy where I can enjoy food but it not be too rich in fat and stuff. We usually would eat rice dishes and salaan and stuff with rotis and I am looking to ditch the rice and rotis. What else is there?
I tried searching but couldnt come up with anything good. Please help!!
Dr. Fuhrman coined the term “Nutritarian” to describe a diet that is nutrient-dense and plant-rich, and includes anti-cancer superfoods, which also facilitate weight loss. These foods supply both the right amount of macronutrients (protein, fat and carbohydrates) and the vital micronutrients (vitamins, phytochemicals and minerals) that unleash the body’s incredible power to heal itself and slow the aging process, giving the body renewed vitality.
Have you tried portion controlling? A lot of the desi dishes do rely on carbs and fats, unless you BBQ/bake the meats. If you eat less of everything, it should work out to be within your daily calorie range that is needed to help you lose weight. So if you're eating 1 roti every meal, start with cutting it down to 3/4 of a roti, with less of salan that you normally eat. This way you're not depriving yourself of food and then end up falling off the track and just going back. Another thing, avoid desserts, desi or non-desi like crazy, unless you're getting to that 1 cheat meal of the week. Then go crazy :D
Also eat more protein than carbs, since proteins keep you full longer. But don't cut out carbs all together either (rice, daal, roti, channay) because your body needs them to make the energy it needs. Eat more meat than you normally would in a meal to make up for the loss in roti.
Incomplete proteins. You have to eat like 2 different daals together to make a whole protein. And channay, to my huge and annoying surprise has a HUGE amount of calories. Might as well eat a roti instead of channa chaat. And your plain yellow daal is also like eating carbs. Beans however are low in calories but yes more protein-y than chick peas.

Sure did. That was the first thing I did. I would usually eat 3 rotis (chapatis) at dinner. Cut it down to 1 and I was hungry as hell. My wife has now cut all rotis and rice out of my meal. (She had a dream where I was handicapped because of my fatness) So, we are making another go at diets for now.

This is for uncooked chickpeas. One cup of cooked chickpeas is actually 270 calories.
Portion control, no food at least four hours before bed time, and treadmill.
Been doing that for years TLK bhai meaning portion control and no food at least 4 hours before bedtime. I have always eaten my dinner between 5-6 PM. Treadmill not so much.
