Yaara, Do you think Ricky is going to wanna use the heavy roller?
no he will not but I am saying that we cant deny him his choice anyway ..can we? He is entitled to choose whichever roller he wants before the start of the inning so where does "Pakistan declare or not" comes into play ?
Re: Pakistan vs Australia, 2nd Test, Sydney Jan 3-7, 2010
Nikema,
I honestly don't know what benefit would Pakistan get by asking for a roller on day 3. If I were the captain I would want the pitch to deteriorate naturally as much as possible. Why would I roll and compact up the surface for a predictable bounce? I would rather let it dry up and crack open. no?

well heavy roller helps fast bowler for hour or two and then it restarts to deteriorate so both (seamers and spinners) can take advantage of it ...

I think if Yousuf didnt get out first, Umar Akmal would have continued his aggressive style and got a much bigger score. Yousuf got out trying to steer down the ball to third man. And then Umar curbed his natural instinct. He was 20 from 7 balls. New ball got Umar out after Ponting called for LBW review and then I went to sleep. I woke up and found to my suprise that both Misbah & Kamran Akmal didnt do much. I was hoping for the same amount of lead but with at least either Misbah or Kamran still at the crease with 7 down.
Our Pakistani fans are as clueless as the players themselves. If Yousuf didn't get out??????? what the hell. He got out. Let's move on...and stop living in a lala land.

I'd not blame yousuf and umer. Pakistan was stable then and was going for kill its Misbah and specially Kamran who was trying to play 20/20 game or in fact 10/10. Players have to adjust the game accordingly. If yousuf got out trying to accumulate runs fast, it was Misbah and Kamran's responsibility to bring house in order instead of trying to laparoo
Kaneria with his Murali type hitting is fully capable of surpassing his highest test score of 29. Asif needs to give him support. Final score of around 375 will definitely frustrate the Aussies.
Re: Pakistan vs Australia, 2nd Test, Sydney Jan 3-7, 2010
I dont think Kaneria and Asif will last long this morning, but it really doesnt matter - you already have all the lead you will need. I think the Aussies will struggle against Asif, Sami and Gul, and while they may avoid losing by an innings, they will lose this match, no doubt about it.
The first OZ innings of the first test was more of an anomaly IMO - Pak bowlers not yet able to find their bearings. Second innings of the first test and first innings here are probably truer indication of Oz ability to handle Pak bowling. Question always was will Pak batting come to the party, and now that they have, Aus will struggle.
Re: Pakistan vs Australia, 2nd Test, Sydney Jan 3-7, 2010
I don't know why people are blaming Pakistan middle order for giving their wickets. Had they batted patiently and taken a lead of 140, would that be better? No. I think on this wicket you have to score while you are at the crease. So Umar, Kamran, Yousuf did the right thing and now we have a 200 run lead which given Pakistan's batting line-up is a big big thing to have. I thought Pakistan will be all out for 220. They are 331-9 which is way too good.

Take Kamran out of the list. Scoring fast does not mean throw your wicket away or gift it to bowlers.

My issues with heavy roller is that on this wicket "which still has some grass on it" heavy roller might just bind the grass together and create EVEN bounce/surface...which (can)will make it even more batting friendly...But If i am captain, i would rather take that chance...go with heavy roller....(which may or may not work on this wicket) rather than NOT take this chance
Re: Pakistan vs Australia, 2nd Test, Sydney Jan 3-7, 2010
If before this test started posters were asked would they be happy with 50 runs lead on first innings, everyone would have thought it was impossible but would have gladly settled for it. Now that we have a lead of 200+ we are moaning that we could have had 300, and if we would have had 300 than we would have been picking holes in our batting as to how we could have had 400. We are never satisfied. Joys of being a Pakistani team fan. :(
