Re: Pakistan vs Australia, 2nd Test, Sydney Jan 3-7, 2010
When I went to sleep at tea interval Pakistan had 8 wickets in hand. I was expecting a lead of around 150 and around 4-5 wickets in hand by the end. I’ was surprised to see them lose 7 wickets in that last session. But their scoring rate was better than expected. Still the lead is very good. Hopefully tomorrow will be another good day for Pak bowlers, inshallah.

^^ Same with me as well... I was expecting at least a hundred from Yousuf and co. Yousuf was playing positively at the moment. Especially couple of overs before the tea were very productive.
I am interested to know, what caused the sudden collapse, was it the new ball, or our batsmen started to go after every delivery cause of some game plane change.

I think they fall 50 runs short of their own target and the target I wanted them to achieve too but at the same time I guess Yousuf was hoping to achieve the target 3/4 overs before the end of the day. So acceleration had a purpose but there were some real culprits too like Kamran Akmal ... I an singling him out coz he is doing that quite consistently now...throwing his wicket out for nothing ...

It was a higher scoring rate. Pakistan came out with the mood to dominate the Aussies mentally. Which they did. This pitch is not suited for a quicker long innings (60+ at around 50-60 S.R) it requires a slow batting approach if you want to last long. Pakistan chose as a plan, I believe to score fast and dominate so they can Win the match and level the series.
I think MoYo for once has shown aggression in his approach. Pakistan seem to be betting on the final test as their best display of strength, hoping they will have a full pace battery to choose from and maybe, YK also available in some reasonable form.
I also would have expected may be 350 for 7 or 300 for 5. But found the score card to be heavier on the wickets loss. Still a very good position to win the match from here.
Re: Pakistan vs Australia, 2nd Test, Sydney Jan 3-7, 2010
I’m thinking out loud but what if Pakistan declare first thing in the morning. So they can use early morning help from the pitch. Not gonna happen but that might get Pak some early wickets from Sami. Cause we know he is gonna be wayward.
Re: Pakistan vs Australia, 2nd Test, Sydney Jan 3-7, 2010
and on side notes, I am REALLY happy they way Yousuf captained the side in this test. He played right cards at right time and was pro-active in the field. Chatting to his bowlers, setting up plan for each Aus batsman.
He is learning fast :k:
I started seeing this change from last test when he had 9 to 1 off side field for Watson (when he was in 90s) and yousuf almost got his man only that Rauf dropped the catch on 99 else Watson played into the hands of Yousuf…
Re: Pakistan vs Australia, 2nd Test, Sydney Jan 3-7, 2010
I think the situation is graver than it looks and the table can be easily overturned. The wicket has eased up considerably, and if Australia ends up making 450-500 runs in the second innings, Pakistan will be left with a target of around 250-300 on a fifth day wicket. That will be near impossible to get in the fourth innings.
Australian batsmen will be looking to make amends, and couple with an easier wicket, 450-500 runs is not out of question. I am keeping my fingers crossed. After the first day, I had hoped for an innings defeat, but the 200 runs lead may not amount to much.

^ Haurits was getting considerable turn on the 2nd day. I'm sure Kaneria will get some turn as well. And hopefully Yousuf will try Farhat for a bit to see if he can do something with the ball.

Your anxiousness is well appreciated...
but seriously for aussies to win from here there are only 2 scenarios:
1. Pakistan completely squander the position by bowling half volleys and way outside off to let them score freely, drop catches and miss field. Given that Moyo and co. want to level the series, which is obvious, I think they won't just give up.
or
2. The pitch suddenly becomes totally placid which would be a major cameleon type change if that happens - Otherwise, there is still a lot of life in this pitch for the bowlers that persist and keep line/length as well as some pace like Sami showed. It has a history of turn, so Kaneria should prove lethal. He took 7 wickets 5 years ago. I can expect atleast 3-4 scalps this time.
So lets see ...I seriously hope Pak wins from here.
Re: Pakistan vs Australia, 2nd Test, Sydney Jan 3-7, 2010
There is NO need to declare without facing a ball today, because If Pak declare without facing a ball then, the lose the right to chose what kind of roller they want to be used in morning. So Pak need to bat at least for a ball (I doubt that tail will last more than 2 overs)so that they can go for heavy roller and cause some(if any) damage/wear and tear to the wicket.
Re: Pakistan vs Australia, 2nd Test, Sydney Jan 3-7, 2010
Decent, Nikema is correct.
During the match the pitch may be rolled at the request of the captain of the batting side, for a period of not more than 7 minutes, before the start of each innings, other than the first innings of the match, and before the start of each subsequent day's play
