Pakistan vs Australia, 2nd Test, Sydney Jan 3-7, 2010

Well, now that the first Test is over, Pakistan must give a long, hard look at their team selection and strategy, and ready to ring in wholesale changes.

  1. You never go into a Test with just four bowlers and hope to win.

  2. If the batsmen of the opposing team are well-settled, then it sometimes makes sense to bring in part timer bowlers to disrupt the rhythm. Imran Farhat bowled a few overs in the first innings, was getting appreciable turn, but was never brought back again.

  3. Imran Farhat has proven yet again that he’s useless. But the reality is that since he made a century in New Zealand, we have to put up with him for a while now. Ideally though, Farhat should be dropped and Faisal Iqbal open the innings in his place. Younis should come in at #3.

  4. Saeed Ajmal, while very good at restricting the run-flow, didn’t seem like a wicket-taking bowler at Test level.

  5. Our batsmen need to learn the value of playing with a straight bat.

  6. There’s no quick fix for our fielding woes. We must learn to live with it.

Re: Pakistan vs Australia, 2nd Test, Sydney Jan 3-7, 2010

Both Farhat and Salman compete with each other as to who is more pathetic. I consider Salman to be the worst opener. I say lets open with fawad and Malik, they cant do any worse than these two pratts. We should play both spinners at Sydney.

fawad is a pathetic batsman too i dont know why is he even in the squad ........
My team for 2nd test

Malik
Butt
Younis
Yousuf
Misbah
Umar
Kamran
Kaneria
Gul
Asif
Amer

Fawad may be not a very good batsman but he is an excellent fielder, something we badly need in our team.. if he can catch few batsman out, then the job is done, apart from fielding he is also a left arm spinner, so he can be an added value to the bowling lineup where he can contribute with 4/5 overs to break the rhythm of batsmen... compare to Salman butt, who sucks in the field, is not reliable batsman and can add nothing to the bowlers infact is a tool to de-motivate the bowlers...

So i agree with ur team apart of having salman butt, we can use fawad alam.. secondly Gul has not proved himself in the test matches and if iam correct he is injured, so SAMI can be there to back the pace attack ( or to give some cushion to Australian batting, he cant be as bad as Asad Rauf)

PCB ka phir panga

Younis Khan may not be joing the team so soon, it seems

Younis unlikely to be rushed to Australia despite request
DAWN.COM | Sport | Younis unlikely to be rushed to Australia despite request

or give us all something to cu*s at for the duration of the test! (more likely)

So there is some good news after all

ya Gul has not proved himself in the tests but at least with his reverse swing he ca definitely give some hard time to the aussies

How is it a good decision? Do we have a better test no. 3 than Younus Khan at the moment?

Lawson: Pakistan needs Younus at no. 3

Lawson: ‘Pakistan didn’t succumb meekly’ | Match Analysis | Cricinfo Talk | Cricinfo.com

Younis Khan an another flat pitch bully, he might have scored ( once in blue moon) against any good side, otherwise he sucks big time, his record is good against weaker side and his current form is little better than mine ( and i have not played cricket for last 9/10 years).. having him in the side would have made no difference… Instead of going for used bullets, PCB should try new batsman, there is lots of talent, give them a chance and they can turn out to be a good value, anyway, if somebody is needed for one down postion and he must be an old gun, then Mohammad Wasim or somebody of his technique should be given a chance…

^ Disagree.

Younus Khan averages 43 in 3 tests in Australia, more than any other Pak batter at the moment incl. Yousuf who averages 34 in 7 tests.

Younus averages 43.17 in Australia, 52.22 in England and 33.89 in South Africa

Yousuf averages 34.21 in Australia, 65.09 in England and 26.10 in South Africa

Re: Pakistan vs Australia, 2nd Test, Sydney Jan 3-7, 2010

Hopefully Gul and Kaneria are fit enough to play. Rauf was a big disappointment. I guess he can only take wickets in domestic cricket.

Best of luck to Pakistan. :jhanda:

In the absence of Younus Khan (thanks to dheet and hut dharam PCB selectors and officials) this will be my team:

  • Imran Farhat (reluctantly): with Younis Khan back I would have opened with Malik and Butt. Farhat's parchi is too big and I don't think he will be dropped yet
  • Salman Butt (reluctantly)
  • Shoaib Malik
  • Mohammad Yousuf
  • Umer Akmal
  • Misbah-ul-Haq
  • Kamran Akmal
  • Mohammad Aamer
  • Umar Gul (Sami if Gul unfit)
  • Mohammad Asif
  • Danish Kaneria

Re: Pakistan vs Australia, 2nd Test, Sydney Jan 3-7, 2010

Sydeny is a spinning pitch so why not play two spinners?

wow

True. Drop Gul/Sami and play Ajmal as well

I agree, I'd give Fawad Alam a run like we gave to Taufeeq Umar, Imran Farhat, Salman Butt... give him some time to settle in.

A bowling average of 33.6 and SR of 55 is not good enough for you and you want someone like Sami whose bowling average is 51.37 and SR of 86???? You must have some talent measure that I am not aware of.

Compare Gul's stats with Makhya Ntini, Makhya is better on average while his SR is close to Gul's.

Ehsan bhai, Salman actually played pretty decently in the second innings... he only made one mistake and that was on the ball he got out on.

compare that with Farhat... who could have gotten out twice in the first over of the innings alone...

Here's my team for 2nd test:

  • Fawad Alam (batsman/bowler)
  • Faisal Iqbal (batsman)
  • Shoaib Malik (batsman/bowler)
  • Mohammad Yousuf (batsman)
  • Umer Akmal (batsman)
  • Misbah-ul-Haq (batsman)
  • Kamran Akmal (Wicket Keeper/batsman)
  • Mohammad Aamer (Fast bowler)
  • Gul/Sami (Fast bowler)
  • Mohammad Asif (Fast bowler)
  • Danish Kaneria (Spin bowler)

I think now we have 6 bowlers and 7 batsmen (8 if Aamer is considered as all rounder) which is what we need. I personally think Faisal Iqbal has much better technique compared to Salman and Imran Farhat.

Australia ALWAYS played with four bowlers. Watson only recently broke into team after Symonds' antics. Pakistan team of yester years also played with four bowlers and won everywhere.

However, they key here is to play four good bowlers on form.

I hope they play the following team (considering Younis is not going to be there)

Farhat
Butt
Malik
Yousuf
Umar
Misbah
Kamran
Aamer
Asif
Kaneria
Saeed/Gul

Faisal was edgy throughout and Malik can bowl a bit as well so on a spinning pitch he can compliment Kaneria if they decide to play Gul. Malik cannot be worse than Faisal. I would play Farhat because no matter how bad he is, i would not break a partnership who gave us a good century stand just one test earlier. THIS is one of the attitude that HAS to change if we want to get a decent opening stand in this series. I wish Salman and Yasir Hameed were given an extended run but that did not happen unfortunately.

no sami please! The guy has been around forever and learnt jack!
