Re: Pakistan to build the World's tallest building in Karachi
^^ Well put. But hey look here--we ARE corrupted (even UrbanPK shouldn't deny that)... now let's stop comparing ourselves to even India; US and Canada come far later. I guess there's been enough talk about what's wrong with us, let's just take a look at what's right (even if partially) with us:
Economy. Well yes, but then the ppl in control should know how to use it... so it ultimately comes off as a negative :(
Anything else? None that I can think of. Come on, UrbanPK... I've been to your website; yes they have some excellent efforts and a very high caliber of information up there, but you should never shy from admitting that we are indeed far away from the word "correct".. and I rarely found a thread on UrbanPK forums that actually dug into our negatives.
Okay now if all this money that is banked up for the KPT Tower could be spent in the following sectors: infrastructure and city planning, poverty, environment and health, education, efficient residences (KPT is commericale and thus conserves no space) ...how much more could we have benefited?
See? We can put money to some good use if we want to.
Re: Pakistan to build the World’s tallest building in Karachi
need to see private versus public spend on the project
expected ROI of this project
expected qualitative benefits
cost of other projects. etc
unless any of us have that, whether one is pro syscraper or anti sky scraper, with all due respect…sab bongiyan hi marr rahay hain. some have gone to borderline gali galoch even
Re: Pakistan to build the World's tallest building in Karachi
retro, if i was an investor in pakistan... no i wouldnt just go and start distrubuting my wealth to the poor all of a sudden, niether am i going to invest it in something i dont feel like has profit margins that would satisfy me, so your rant hardly makes any sense. you cant expect businessmen to just invest their money in trying to eradicate poverty, be practical, and stop whining.
Re: Pakistan to build the World's tallest building in Karachi
Okay fine... I agree with you: let's stop spending any money for our country; fill up our tummies with whatever money gives us, let people be poor, let the quality of life be worse than a dung beetle's surroundings, let our people remain and insulted as "jahils"; and hey, it doesn't really matter as long as you have an air conditioner and purifier in your bedroom in Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Karachi. Let's just live like the h@lf-@r$ed b@$t@rd$ that we are... okay, happy now? Yeah.
^ That felt good, at least I got to release my gamut of hatred (even if in sarcasm). And as far as making sense goes, you just have to use your hands to mold the Pakistani businessmen into proper shape; you're talking as if we're in Canada or something (so you'd better get practical too)... and as Islam says, if people would share their wealth equally the world would be sufficient for everyone. So why be such a hog?

You go distribute your wealth first, tab baat karna... Welcome to the real world munney, no one wants to distribute their hard earned money, bheek mangna band karo, aur khud kamana seekho. I am sure these guys worked hard and used their skillsets to become millionaires, and they have every right to spend their wealth (or make more of it)
Re: Pakistan to build the World's tallest building in Karachi
^^ I am all for Pakistan building skyscrapers but this 1947 feet tower is a bad idea.
We should build 10-15 60-70 stories tall buildings to give Karachi a proper skyline and then think about building something this tall.
Personally, I think Pakistan should concentrate on
1 - Getting a Mass Transit System in place in its cities
2 - Building a Freeway though its cities
3 - Combating pollution with emission controls. Banning of rickshaws in certain areas of the city. Getting eco-friendly Rickshaws.
4 - Planting trees and creating Parks and other recreational areas in cities
5 - Getting a proper sanitation, water, gas, and electric system in place.
6 - Building public housing for the poor
Once these things are done, then we can build 2,000 feet towers.
But I am all for Building Skyscrapers like 60-70 stories tall and giving Pakistani cities a proper skyline.
So far, there is no single image which defines any Pakistani city.
New York has Empire State building, Paris has eiffel tower, london has big ben, etc....
Pakistan needs a trademark building but only after those 6 conditions are met
Re: Pakistan to build the World's tallest building in Karachi
Yes, my buddy, but what about people who were not as fortunate? You gotta have a heart for them. Most people in Pakistan are not poor because the wanted to be poor or because they were lazy (you know about boys as young as 8 who work for hours just to earn a piece of bread), but they are poor because they didn't get the proper facilities. Now our businessmen - and more importantly, politicians - can spend a portion of their wealth on these poor people to at least give them some facilities.
Yes, it will have to be a coordinated promotion; the government, the people, and the businessmen will all have to collaborate... but just imagine if we could do that; if every single one of our people were able to say from the bottom of their heart: "I am proud to be a Pakistani".
If still the people don't want to work, that means that they deserved to be poor; but to be honest I can't think of anyone in Pakistan who'd be like that (except for some extremely few people). But at least give it a try; no one's gonna turn broke if they could donate a portion of their wealth for the poor, and I am pretty sure that there are many people in our country able for this.
So first we need to correct our society and enforce our laws and our citizens' rights. And as far as environmental infrastructure is concerned... mercenary2k's post a little above is perfectly described--or as I would say, he nailed it.
Re: Pakistan to build the World’s tallest building in Karachi
dude there are other issues with building public assistance housing AKA ghettos, thats my point, you have to do it right.
google cabrini green and north peckham estates and see what the issues can be, and how the authorities went about fixing those, in 2 radically different ways.
lets learn from the mistakes of others and not repeat them. I am not talking about luxury, I am talking about location, density, centralized verus distributed approach etc.
