Re: Pakistan to build the World's tallest building in Karachi
^^ Now that explains why some of our people are how they are right now... people die in New Karachi and dehats, yet all that you care about is giving Pakistan a nice look. And roadrunner your post is just enough to prove why some Pakistanis are so self-concerned.
Re: Pakistan to build the World’s tallest building in Karachi
Do you even know what a sycophant is? How is what I post in anyway sycophantic? How is it hypocritical for that matter, or dont you know the meaning of this word either?

Re: Pakistan to build the World's tallest building in Karachi
^^ Oops. Got a bit overhead with the language. I thought sycophant meant "flatterer"... which you are since you are flattering the investors in some way or the other. And you are also a hypocrite (even if an uninformed one) since you pretend that you want the benefit of Pakistan even though you just care about shoo-shaa regardless of legitimate progress. That's my conclusion. Anyhow I changed the post to make the point more straightforward.
Re: Pakistan to build the World’s tallest building in Karachi
It looks like our prayers have been heard. I just heard on the news that the plan for LRMTS (Lahore Rapid Mass Transit System) has been approved, and the same consultants that worked on the Delhi Metro have completed the feasibility study and advised on the design of the transit system.
On googling a little more, here is the “Terms of Reference” document: http://203.215.180.58/portal/docimages/11422LRMTS_Phase1.pdf
and more information can be found on the Punjab Govt. website:
http://www.punjab.gov.pk/
According to preliminary plans, the transit system should become operational in 2012.
Apparently, the Karachi transit system feasibility study is already in the works too :k:
Re: Pakistan to build the World's tallest building in Karachi
^^ Good news indeed, I might be bit off topic but these 5/6 years are very crucial for growth of Pakistan.
Re: Pakistan to build the World's tallest building in Karachi
Thanks God for the public transportation. But would've been better if it was underground... anyhow it will still enhance our traffic and environment. Let's just hope they do the work this time. I quote the phrase "don't talk the talk, walk the walk".
Re: Pakistan to build the World's tallest building in Karachi
^^ There have been feasibility studies done in the 1970's but nothing came of it
Re: Pakistan to build the World's tallest building in Karachi
^^ Well I think at this moment even the politicians realize that they have a fat chance at their hands... besides Karachi's economic development will be somehow affected by this as well. I doubt the politicians are gonna blow this chance. I heard reports that now even the MQM has gotten serious about the city's economy. Lahore pretty much fells in the same vein I think.
Re: Pakistan to build the World's tallest building in Karachi
^^ I hope you are right. Because Karachi and Lahore's traffic problems are horrendous.
Building mass transit systems can cut down the traffic by 50% or more
Re: Pakistan to build the World’s tallest building in Karachi
^^ Gulp… this horrible thought just came up my mind: what if those mullahs or slum residents or whatever claim that the constructors of this mass transit project are intruding their territory blah blah. I really think we should be merciless to them if they don’t understand what’s good for themselves and what’s good for everyone else.
I heard that when they were trying to build the 6 or so tracks of the Lyari Express, a political party interrupted and obtruded with the project since they believed that it disturbed the poor population who slept on the streets
… as a result one track of the Express was unable to be built. Well, the constructors should have told someone to take care of the poor people (who would?) but look how greater the benefit is. I think we should rid ourselves of these mindless leaders and implement immediate, efficient resolutions which we have been working on for so long. In jaahil hartaal walon ko to danday kay zor say hi khelna paray ga.
Let’s pray everything goes fine this time… and I think the builders (and I really hope the government too) will take better measures this time around because they learnt from their previous experiences. Plus, the population is more well-informed now about what will benefit them so the problem will probably be far less if we don’t have these stupid political leaders.
Re: Pakistan to build the World's tallest building in Karachi
With global warming, that thing might be underwater in the next few decades.
Re: Pakistan to build the World's tallest building in Karachi
Where do people come up with these ideas?
Idiots.
Re: Pakistan to build the World's tallest building in Karachi
^^ (sigh) It's not gonna work buddy. We're bombed by facts at this point. Let's just face it - we are screwed up.
Re: Pakistan to build the World's tallest building in Karachi
I was quite looking forward to readin hskhans reply to roadrunner.
baited breath
Re: Pakistan to build the World’s tallest building in Karachi
^^ Hmph. I’m pretty much against what roadrunner said… that private investment in such shoo-shaa projects should be allowed. I guess the government should encourage the private investors to invest in buildings that would provide cheap, decent residential services for the poor. Heck, poor people who earn by begging or some other illegal business can join in the construction of such projects and eventually earn the fruit of their own labor… I guess the builders can find a quick solution as to where the displaced construction workers can stay while the project is being built :halo: (use trucks as R/V’s for the while?) < Even better, for the while the workers can cram themselves on to floors that are done… and I’m not being sarcastic, a little patience will lead to enormous benefits.
Re: Pakistan to build the World’s tallest building in Karachi
An interesting article - in case of emergency in buildings in Karachi.
Sorry only available in Urdu (probabily time for those who are of Pakistani origin to learn their mother language).
Re: Pakistan to build the World's tallest building in Karachi
^^ What the hell? Buildings in pakistan don't have basic emergency arrangements yet? Even those build recently (the burning building in the pic looks rather new)? Oh my God, it's time we knock some sense into ourselves. Anyhow, I still believe the poor people should be lodged in decent, low-priced buildings... in fact, the generous person would even allow these people to live in the building for free for the first year or so until they grab a proper job. Well, let's hope all the buildings - new or old - are equipped with emergency arrangements. Jeez, backward people.
P.S. Never knew it was that easy to rid ourselves of all the politicians in our country
Re: Pakistan to build the World’s tallest building in Karachi
I guess the discussion got carried away a bit :), but coming back to topic, is this project shelved right now
? And what about the Centaurus in Islamabad, is it shelved too? I hope both these stupid shoo-shaa projects get called off and we actually - or urge the pvt investors to - spend some money on basic necessities.
Re: Pakistan to build the World's tallest building in Karachi
^The KPT is still on the drawing board, although its not going to be the tallest in the world will be among them...
The KARACHI port people are building some other towers, 4 to be exact, and I might add, the are stunning.
The Centaurus is being built... I think they have finished the foundation already...
