Pakistan to build one of the World's tallest building in Karachi

Re: Pakistan to build the World's tallest building in Karachi

^^ Well if this building does get build, it will encourage more investment in Karachi and Pakistan and as a result money will pour into the economy which in the long run will benefit Pakistan

Re: Pakistan to build the World's tallest building in Karachi

^^ I don't see how will it benefit those who need the money. Okay first of all when such luxurious buildings are being build obviously the price is gonna rip through the roof (and I don't think any idiot would actually lower them enough to be bought by the lower-class people of Pakistan). So who are the people that will buy into these buildings--businessmen who are already enjoying a good life and don't really need to buy anymore in property. On the other hand we have people who can't find a good home outside their slum belt and yet the prices keep rising and rising.

Yes another possibility is that the building is commercial (which is likely). Okay, you base headquarters of major companies, banks etc. which is alright.. but why spend so lavishly when there are so many other things that urgently deserve their share of investment, i.e. residences for people who can't afford to buy into the higher priced facilities.

^^ These don't have to be lavish, just a decent 2 bedroom + 1 1/2 to 2 washroom + living hall + kitchen will work, as mercenary2k mentioned earlier in this thread. And then, if the government is involved why doesn't it encourage the foreign investors to invest into such projects. The common argument is that in the long run Pakistan's economy will benefit from the money that this investment brings in.

Okay, and then? If the economy is not being put to good use (which is a fairly slow process as of now) what's the point. It's like a donkey carrying a load of books.

Re: Pakistan to build the World's tallest building in Karachi

This project is private, so you do not have ANY say in how this project will be built and who it will cater. The government also does not have any say unless they are breaking the law which they are NOT. So why this discussion? Should we stop investment? Should we let the economy die out?

Re: Pakistan to build the World's tallest building in Karachi

^^ Isn't not having an economy and having an economy that is not being used properly the same thing? Now it's a different thing if the investors change their approach and actually start using the economy for our current necessities, which is what we're all hoping for.

Re: Pakistan to build the World’s tallest building in Karachi

And the energy and water to operate such a building will come from?

Not the same thing, but similar hotel in North Korea.

Re: Pakistan to build the World's tallest building in Karachi

lol, retro just doesnt have a clue

Re: Pakistan to build the World's tallest building in Karachi

Just building one tall building wont magically improve the economy in a short time. Look at Saudi Arabia. Does building more malls completely covered in marble and gold accents, and building luxury hotels make the average person over there better off?

Re: Pakistan to build the World's tallest building in Karachi

^^ no but it does encourage more investment and shows to the rest of the world that saudi arabia is an investor friendly place and thus more investment means more jobs and more chances to improve the economy

its another thing that saudis are lazy and too incompetent to do the job and so they hire foreigners

but in pakistan, we are hard working and skilled people

Re: Pakistan to build the World’s tallest building in Karachi

^^ Yes, but what’s the use if we’re so damned confused? We have private investors bombing us for something that is barely going to benefit our people (why should the rich people keep rising, and the poor people stay stagnant?)… our government quite simply finds it hard to manage. We should take a straightforward approach to everything. Private investors are alright as long as they’re doing something right. I amn’t saying that we should veto all private investments but priorities come first.

Come on people let’s get the point. Who are the ones that urgently need good residences right now? Answer - the Pakistani citizens living in slums who are deprived of their rights. Now for them buying one of the rooms in Karachi Marina (6-star development ) is like buying one of the rooms in Burj-al-Arab is for us. I know that KPT is a commercial building, but isn’t it much better (if not necessary) if we urge the investors to spend this money into building a decent resonably-priced residential facility for our lower-class.

Unfortunately we have people who already own 3 plots in the city yet they want this one two because “they want to sell it when the prices go up”. Dammit man have a heart. I think the government should make laws that no one should own more than two landplots in the country.

Re: Pakistan to build the World's tallest building in Karachi

I am just happy you guys are not a part of our government.

Re: Pakistan to build the World's tallest building in Karachi

Nobody cares if you are

Re: Pakistan to build the World's tallest building in Karachi

who cares . in lahore i have seen so many tall buildings, BUT, almost all of them are empty above level 3 or 4. so whats the point in making such tall commercial buildings ? elevators never work in such buildings. security another problem. how will it encournage more investment ?

I tell you how they can get more investment.

By bringing reform in agriculture.( back bone of pakistan )
By bringing more R&D in universities.
By making higher education equally accessible**to every one

These tall building are just shoo-shaa.

Re: Pakistan to build the World's tallest building in Karachi

^^ Agriculture is important to Pakistan; well yes, we have sick arable land... but we must know how to utilise it. Unfortunately there's a high rate of deforestation in Pakistan, mainly due to farming and industrialization. I'm okay with farming as long as the reforestation (planting trees after cutting them down) is given its crucial share. Anyhow if we were organized we could use a relatively small-sized piece of land and still make profit out of it.

As far as education is concerned it is a necessity, not an option... so I just don't see any point of leniency there.

Yes I agree that these stupid commercial highrises (1 or 2 are okay, but then you just don't dump all the money on them) are plain shoo-shaas. We could instead be better off with 10-15 decent residential buildings (even if not exactly highrises), as mercenary2k mentioned before.

As for UrbanPK for God's sake tell your webmaster to have a look at this thread.

Re: Pakistan to build the World's tallest building in Karachi

which tall buildings?

I am form Lahore, last time I was there was in 2003, didnt see any tall buildings

Re: Pakistan to build the World's tallest building in Karachi

I don't think this will ever happen, it's just speculation and most likely some kind of a investment fraud.

I also don't think that whole island thing will happen.

Re: Pakistan to build the World's tallest building in Karachi

^^ The construction has already begun on the Island but you are right that the project will be scaled down

Re: Pakistan to build the World's tallest building in Karachi

just to name few.

Siddiq Trade Center, Main Boulevard, Gulberg
City Tower, Main Boulevard, Gulberg
Ejaz Canter, Main Boulevard, Gulberg

EDEN Tower, Main Boulevard, Gulberg
Land Marck Plaza, Jail Road
Al-Hafiz Tower, MM Alam Road

and then there are many more on Main Boulevard that are pretty huge i.e atleast 8-10 levels. but most of them are empty.

Re: Pakistan to build the World's tallest building in Karachi

^^ You're talking about Lahore? Dunno about that, but I've been to Karachi almost every year (the exception is 2005) during the summer and things definitely improved a lot between '04 and '06. The roads were an unmissable improvement (most of them stood strong despite the heavy showers, the drains were still inefficient though), and yes some tall buildings (by Pakistani standards) have also stood up here and there... not only 8-10 levels some are even up to 20 levels or more. But yes as indelible mentioned they are rather useless.

Once again I repeat that currently our priorities are education and environment. I see (and we must see) education as a necessity, not an option. Environment covers a whole gamut of topics such as city planning, pollution, space conservation, flaura and fauna etc.

Re: Pakistan to build the World's tallest building in Karachi

me never been to karachi :(

Re: Pakistan to build the World's tallest building in Karachi

There's some really stupid people on these forums :D This investment whatever they want to build is one of the best things to happen to Pakistan for a long time. And Pakistan does not have tall buildings! Not one single and proper skyscraper as yet.

Finally, IT'S PRIVATE INVESTMENT, SO THEY CAN DO WHAT THEY LIKE. IT WONT AFFECT PAKISTAN. Damn, this will go over your heads I know :D
