what happened of the holland vs Germany match?
** Pakistan 2 Spain 0 **
That was a close one, even though Pakistan won 2 nil, for a long time it looked like a draw.
**Results for 3 March
Pakistan 2 Spain 0
Argentina 3 NZ 1
South Africa 3 Belgium 0
Holland 0 Germany 1 **
With Germany's win over Holland there is only one result Pakistan can hope for when they meet Germany on 5 March. ** A WIN, OTHER WISE GOODBYE TO THE FINALS**

Pakistan Take 2-0 Win Over Spain
KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia, March 3 – Pakistan defeated Spain 2-0 in Pool A in the men’s World Cup hockey tournament here today to challenge for second place in Pool A, joining Argentina and Germany on 12 points with Germany to play Netherlands in the next match today.
In a portent of what was to come, Spain gained the first possession as Juan Escarre took the first possession into Pakistan’s circle but lost control of the ball while Kashif Jawad had the first possession in Spain’s circle and drove a backstick shot just over goal.
Spain consistently failed to get numbers forward when in possession in the midfield. First Escarre then Pol Amat had possession going towards Pakistan’s circle but the closest red Spanish shirt was 20 metres behind them and there were 4 green Pakistan shirts ahead.
Bernardino Herrera had a confidence building save with his left glove of Sohail Abbas’ first penalty corner, gloving the shot from his right down and away (16th minute) after the corner was awarded for an infringement by Jordi Quintana in the circle.
Spain came back with possession carried by Pol Amat from just outside Spain’s defensive quarter line to Pakistan’s circle with Eduard Tubau in parallel formation with Amat. Amat’s cross to the right took a deflection off Tariq Imran and eluded Tubau.
From the long corner, Spain pressured Pakistan’s circle but could not get a shot on goal.
Muhammad Nadeem gained good possession for Pakistan in the midfield on three occasions in the first half which he carried from the centre line down the middle of the pitch to Spain’s defensive quarter line where he lost possession by passing to Spain’s defence.
Pakistan showed a new variation on its second penalty corner (33rd minute). This time Ali Raza hit the ball but Bernardino Herrera saved low with his right glove.
Muhammad Usman was stretchered off after colliding in midfield with a Spanish player and shortly after the resumption of play, Pakistan was awarded its third penalty corner in the last minute of the first half.
Sohail Abbas threw his flick into the mid-section of Bernardino Herrera who cleared the ball with his left boot before calling for a time-out as he was clearly badly winded, or worse. Play resumed after several minutes and the half ended but Herrera doubled up in goal as the hooter sounded and needed further attention on the pitch to be able to get to the dressing rooms.
Herrera came back on for the second half and was challenged in the first minute by a shot from the top of the circle by Dr Atif Bashir. Bashir struck low and into Herrera’s pad and Herrera kicked the ball away.
Ali Raza also hit Pakistan’s 4th penalty corner, this time high into the middle of the net and the shot was disallowed.
For 10 minutes from the start of the second half but could not make a shot on goal. Pol Amat relieved the pressure with a run down the left side for Spain to make a shot which went outside the right post.
Amat earned Spain its second penalty corner (46th minute) but the strike from the battery went into Qasim in goal for Pakistan and was dug out by Muhammad Usman and cleared. Usman started the second half after being stretched off just before the break.
Eduard Tubau gained quality possession in Pakistan’s circle and had a strong shot on goal just wide of the right post after 10 minutes of the first half.
Spain’s Xavier Ribas made two penalty corner conversion attempts (51st minute) with Qasim saving the first, a flick high to his right, with his left glove and the second, a hard line drive, with his feet.
Muhammad Saqlain, playing at centre forward, forced Pakistan’s fifth penalty corner when he was dispossessed as he ran into the circle and Ali Raza drove in Pakistan’s goal with a strike to the left pocket of goal (59th minute).
A minute later Usman was again stretchered from the pitch after a clash with Jordi Quintana which earned Quintana a yellow card and Xavier Arnau a green card.
With 5 minutes to play, Juan Escarre had an unchallenged shot from the top of the circle which went close to the left post along the pitch but Qasim made a good save with his right boot to keep out the shot.
Pakistan worked possession into Spain’s defensive quarter while Jordi Quintana remained under suspension.
Saqlain received a pass from the left at the top of the circle and as Spain’s defence watched, Saqlain passed to his right to Muhammad Sarwar 3 metres out from the backline to the right of goal. Sarwar measured his pass, holding back until Atif Bashir was in position at the left post where Sarwar’s pass found Bashir for Bashir to pop the ball into goal (67th minute).
Sarwar’s pass was the more remarkable because it went across goal, past Bernardino Herrera and two Spanish defenders.
In the remaining 3 minutes Spain gained little possession and did not gain a chance to score
Pool A P- W- L- D- GD- Pts
1 Germany 6 5 1 0 10 15
2 Netherlands 6 4 1 1 9 13
3 Pakistan 6 4 2 0 6 12
4 Argentina 6 4 2 0 4 12
5 Spain 6 3 1 2 3 11
6 S Africa 6 1 4 1 -9 4
7 NZ 6 1 5 0 -10 3
8 Belgium 6 0 6 0 -15 0
Ok, here is the scenerio, there are two ways that Pakistan can make it into the semis, one of them has to be a miracle, if South Africa can beat Netherlands, than all pakistan has to do is beat Germany by any margin to qualify, if South Africa looses to Netherlands than Pakistan has to beat Germany with the margin of 4 goals which is another miralce, all in all we won't make into the semis unless south Africa pulls of an upset.
Umair, not quite true, the goal difference between Pakistan and Germany is 2 goals and not 4 as you have stated. The scenario is as follows:
If Germany wins or draws they go through, along with Holland if Holland wins or Argentina if they win and Holland loses or draws.
If Pakistan wins by one goal and Holland draws or lose Pakistan goes through along with Germany.
If Pakistan wins by 2 goals. Pakistan goes through and either Germany or Holland depending on whether Holland wins.
So Pakistan still has a very good chance.
Well.. I heard on the news, ke.. Germany ki
jaga set hai, whether they lose or win. The battle is between Pk and Holland now. Pk
has to make at least 3 goals to go through to the finals!!!
Lets keep our fingers crossed guys!! Or mera matlab.. DUWAA KARNA!!!

Someone has a link to the offical rules of Worldcup?!
p.s: I know I know, ehsan bhai & umair are walking regulators. :-P
Here is the link ahmad jee http://www.fihockey.org/vsite/vcontent/page/custom/0,8510,1181-123 053-124360-15501-49160-custom-item,00.html

Umair bhai the link you gave has recorded the Pak goal diference as 6 when it actually is 8. check on http://www.hockeyworldcup2002.com/standing/default.cfm?opt=1
Look at the following:
Pakistan scored a total of 14 goals ( 5 against SA, 3 against Belgium, 2 against NZ, 1 each against Argentina and Holland and 2 against Spain)
other teams scored 6 goals against us ( 2 each by Belgium, Argentina and Holland)
The goal difference is therefore 8 and not 6.
This means that the scenarios I described above stand.

Beating Germany by 2 goals seems like a very tough task but not an impossible one, and the way SA played against Belgium(3-0) and held spain for a draw(2-2) I personally think they can hold the netherland off but again its a far shot, that way we wouldnt be needed to beat Germany by two goals..
Lets hope our Penalty corner specialist Sohail abbas regain his form and does his magic , watch out the substitute guy Ali raza, whose shot in the penalty corner was recorded 122km/hr the fastest so far in the tournament
In PTV khabarnama they said ke Pakistan will have to beat germany by a margin of 3 goals to secure a place in the finals. The chances of that happening aren’t very high. :-/
The other scenarion is ofcourse holland not been able to win against SA and we winning by any margin against Germany. ye bhi hona mushkil hi lagta hey. So lets hope for a miracle (afterall thats what we always do)
Lets look at this goal difference saga.
Germany is +10
Pakistan is +8
If Pakistan beats Germany by one goal they will both have goal difference of +9 and the same points. In this scenario if Holland wins then either Pakistan or Germany will join them or if Holland loses then both Germany and Pakistan will go through.
If Pakistan beats Germany by two goals they will both have the same points but Pakistan will have a goal difference of +10 and Germany of +8. In this scenario either Holland or Germany joins Pakistan in the semi finals.
My view is that a victory by two goals puts Pakistan in the semi finals, unless someone can prove it otherwise.
Good Luck Pakistan.
Agar friday ko match hota to zaroor hum jeet thay, Do kiya bulkay paanch goals say hamari jeet hoti.

I agree with ehsan, pakistan need two goals to win but again I dun wanna rule out the chances of SA , the past two games they played like champions and with this form who knows a draw against netherland could be expected, heck I even think they can beat netherland , maybe I’m too optimistic
http://www3.pak.org/gupshup/smilies/biggrin.gif
, Last time(2001) SA played against netherland resulted in a draw
A question for Ehsan or anyone, is there any internet site avaiable where they have a audio/video broadcast of the world cup?
ehsan bhai ji i would love to agree with u that we need two goals and not three to qualify purr wo kiya hey key mey nahi chahti key mey 2 goal sey jeetney ki dua karoun aur baad mey patta lagey 3 chahye they
http://www3.pak.org/gupshup/smilies/biggrin.gif
So just to be on the safe side sub dua karein hum 6 goal sey jeetein phir hi chance hey key 3 sey tou jeet hi jaien gey. Hamesha double dua mangni chahye
Inshallah we will win
..Ok...we will loose....I can smell that.

I don't get who will go throught if Holland wins and Pakistan beats Germany by one goal. Will there be a toss? Will it be based on the total goals scored by a team in that scenario?
Thanks for explaining the situation else these ppl hadn't left much to be happy about.

I am not sure who will go through in such a scenario, one thought would be that Pakistan will go through because they won the head to head match with Germany. Just my thought, but not sure.
**Results for 4 March
Japan 2 England 0
Malaysia 4 Cuba 2
India 4 Poland 1
Australia 4 Korea 2 **
Naaaaa its not cricket rules r slightly different here. The team with better goal average will go ahead. So if we beat Germany by one goal and Holland wins its bye bye. So pray we win by a margin of six goals
