Ehsan buddy, what is Pakistan's position right now? Are they in danger of being kicked out of the tournament??

Everyone please pray for the team for their match against Holland tommorow...

Spock,

Pakistan hsa tough last three matches against Holland, Germany and Spain. Currently Spain and Holland are one point ahead of Pakistan, while Germany is on the same points as us. So Pakistan cannot afford to lose any matches. Holland V Germany will be an interesting clash as well and could help Pakistan if one of the team wins. These three teams have one easy match each i.e. Holland plays SA, so does Spain and Germany has an easy match against New Zealand. So our path looks tough, to say the least.

Sad that Pakistan had to lose against Argentina...anyway inshallah we will reach 1st or 2nd position.

Cedric D'Souza has been sacked as India's head coach by the Indian Hockey Federation (IHF) following the team's dismal performance in the 10th Men's World Cup here.

IHF President K.P.S. Gill has appointed assistant coach C.R. Kumar as the caretaker of the team for the remainder of the tournament.

D'Souza - who also coached India during the Atlanta '96 Olympic campaign - is expected to board a flight back home this evening after refusing a request to stay on and assist Kumar.

India have earned only a single point from their four matches so far. The side drew with Japan on the opening day and then went on to lose back-to-back matches to Korea (1-2), Malaysia (2-3) and England (2-3) last night.

Pakistan vs Holland at 5pm PST on PTV today... That would be an excellent match. The pitch to be used has been reported to be not in favor of Pakistan. I read in the paper today that our man, Sohail Abbas will find it very hard to get the ball in the goal post during p. corners as if he uses force, like he should, the ball would go off the post from the top.

Let's hope that the Pakistani team management has thought of something extraordinary.

Let's Go Pakistan!!!

Looks like Pakistan will loose

I blame Sohail Abbas for the countless corners he missed…

Dutch go top, Pakistan hopes cropped**

NED: (1) 2

Bram Lomans (19,PC; 37,PS)

PAK: (0) 1

Khalid Saleem (55,FG)

KUALA LUMPUR, March 2: The Dutch went top of Pool B and virtually ended Pakistan's hopes of making the last four with a hard-fought 2-1 win in an evening match today.

Bram Lomans won a head-to-head battle against his would-be successor Sohail Abbas for the title of the best penalty corner specialist in the world by bagging one with a trademark flick and a second with a penalty stroke.

Sohail, on the other hand, missed out on four attempts - two ballooning over the crossbar and the other two intercepted by Remco van Wijk.

The Netherlands, with four wins and a draw against Spain are on 13 points with matches against Germany and South Africa to come. Another three points would just about see them through to the semifinals.

But that goal is over for the Pakistanis, who have now lost two consecutive matches. The Asians stumbled against Argentina yesterday after having put together a run of three wins.

Pakistan began the match in spectacular fashion, winning two short corners within eight minutes. But their best chance to get an early lead was spurned by Kashif Jawad in the 7th minute when he missed a sitter after going past Dutch goalie Guus Vogels.

Pakistan continued to pile on the pressure, but it was the Dutch who took the lead with virtually their first chance. Their first penalty corner resulted in a second, from which Lomans made no mistake.

The story was repeated for the rest of the first period with Pakistan searching in vain for an equalizer.

After the break, Lomans converted a penalty stroke to extend the Europeans' lead. Muhammad Usman illegally blocked Jaap Derk Buma in the D and umpire Raymond O'Connor from Ireland blew for the spot.

The Pakistanis pulled one goal back through Khalid Saleem in the 55th minute and could not snatch the equalizer.

Pakistan have two tough opponents in their remaining two matches against Spain on March 3 and Germany on March 5.

Is this team really worth crying for?
I mean during the interval the “expert” on PTV was talking about the statements of manager and coach after the game against Argentina.

The manager reportedly said “The team is fatigued” What the …?
Fatigued after three matches? What kinf of attitude is this?

The coach is even more genius he goes “We haven’t been able to achieve the results we hoped for from the inclusion of Shehbaz Ahmed”
What kind of a coach would give such a statement in the middle of a World Cup?
Wether Shehbaz is what he was in the past or not the bottom line is he is one player who seems to have any control over the ball.
I don’t know how they management will motivate the team with this kinda attitude.

P.S: ----->

Oh can someone please tell me if we r to qualify directly for the semi-finals or Quarter-finals after the group games?

http://www3.pak.org/gupshup/smilies/confused.gif

PTV commentators are always confusing.

There are no quarter finals. Top 2 teams from the 2 pools will qualify for the semis. Looks like it would be Spain and Holland from our pool and Korea and Australia from the other pool.

I always look at the bring side! Maybe we will get to play with India! :)

That's always a thrill for me.

Come on lads, miracles have happened before, and this one is not totally lost yet. If Pakistan beats Spain tomorrow and Germany loses to Holland then the clash between Pakistan and Germany on 5 March will decide who goes through to the semis. Very difficult but possible.

I don't think it would be a miracle, holland is the best team, and they have a better chance of beating Germany and Pakistan has a really good chance beating Spain and Germany and we would have a really good chance reaching the finals.
The other group is no threat to us except Australia but Pakistan's history with Australia has been good.

Indeed possible bhai jaan!

Don't count your chickens before they are hatched and apart from Australia, Korea is a big threat as well, as they have beaten us quite often recently.

Pakistan really needs to win the last two games... and both against tough teams.
