Pakistan launches Zarb e Azb

re: Pakistan launches Zarb e Azb

our neighbours are playing dirty role in afganistan. In order to neutralize them, we have to use haqani network type groups. They are neither against pakistan nor killing pakis.

re: Pakistan launches Zarb e Azb

Let us do away with the policy of using one group against another. Pakistan is a state and it should behave like a responsible and dignified country. I see your point of Afghanistan becoming a haven for the fleeing terrorists, but the matter should be raised with Afghan government. American forces are still stationed in Afghanistan. If Washington is really serious, it's the time it practices what it preaches.

re: Pakistan launches Zarb e Azb

do u really think, afghan gov will listen to us? They are playing in the hands of our neighbouring countries, stop being "SHREEF" and "Responsible country" and Play openly in afghanistan and show them how it is done, otherwise we wil be sandwiched between eastren and westren border. As far as TTP is concered , kill them all. They are terrorists.

US hikes surveillance on Pak-Afghan border - World - DAWN.COM

WASHINGTON: The top US military commander in Afghanistan says the US has increased its surveillance over the Pak-Afghan border since Pakistan began pounding North Waziristan with airstrikes, but so far officials have not seen any militants fleeing the latest offensive.
Marine Gen. Joseph Dunford told The Associated Press in an interview that the US was not coordinating military operations with Pakistan along the border, but officials have increased the amount of intelligence-sharing with the Afghans.
He said the Afghan troops and US forces in that region were ready for any effects of the strikes, including extremists seeking refuge in Afghanistan.
The US has long pressed Pakistan to root out Taliban militants who have found safe haven in the lawless tribal region of North Waziristan, along the Afghan border, and used it as a staging area to launch attacks.
Dunford said officials have seen families crossing the border to escape the military airstrikes that have pounded North Waziristan since Sunday.
“The Afghan forces as well as our forces are fully prepared to deal with the second-order effects of the operations in North Waziristan,” Dunford said in an interview from Afghanistan. He added that officials were still trying to determine how many families have fled into Afghanistan to escape the violence, but it was difficult because many relocate to families in the southeast and northeast.
More broadly, Dunford expressed increased confidence in the Afghan security forces, and said he did not believe that the military collapse playing out in Iraq would occur in Afghanistan once US combat troops leave.
He said the US fully expects to get a bilateral security agreement with Afghanistan’s government that will allow up to 14,000 US and Nato troops to remain in the country next year to advise the Afghans and conduct counter-terrorism missions.
The US left Iraq after the government in Baghdad refused to agree on a security arrangement. “I don’t see, at least today, the divisive politics that obviously resulted in the situation in Iraq playing out here in Afghanistan,” said Dunford. “We’re encouraged by the fact that we will have a bilateral security agreement. I’m encouraged by the fact that we have multiethnic (presidential) tickets. “
Militants are advancing across Iraq, taking control of several cities in the north and moving toward Baghdad, while roiling Sunni-Shia ethnic tensions. In the face of the brutal Al Qaeda-linked Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, some Iraqi security forces have fled.
The failure of the Iraqi troops to hold off the ISIL, just three years after American troops left the country after eight years or war, has led some US leaders to question whether the same slide into chaos and insurgent control will happen in Afghanistan.
Dunford said that while Afghan military leaders at times expressed frustration with President Hamid Karzai, including his decisions to limit close air support missions or other partnered operations with Nato troops, “not once was there a hint that they wouldn’t follow his direction. “
Noting the deteriorating situation in Iraq, Republican Sen. John McCain said President Barack Obama was “about to make the same mistake in Afghanistan he made in Iraq. “ Asked what can be done to prevent that from happening, Dunford said the US and Nato need a signed security agreement so they can continue to train and advise the Afghan security forces, and the next president “needs to have an inclusive government” and reach out to all the ethnic groups in the country.
He said there was less violence during Afghanistan’s runoff presidential election over the weekend than during the initial voting in April. And he added that, overall, the level of violence in Afghanistan this month is lower than the same time last year. “What we’ve seen is that the Taliban have been unable, right now, to maintain any kind of momentum against the Afghan security forces,” said Dunford. “What’s remarkable about that is, number one, the Afghan forces are in the lead and not us.
And, second, the Taliban indicated a very strong intent to disrupt the elections and to increase the level of violence prior to the elections, and we simply didn’t see any surge in violence. “ He added that there was growing divisiveness and frustration among the Taliban.
“We’ve seen some mistrust develop between the Taliban senior leadership and the rank-and-file fighters out in the provinces,” Dunford said. “I think the morale of Taliban fighters has been affected adversely as a result of the lack of success. “
The US has announced it will leave about 9,800 troops in Afghanistan at the end of this year. Of those, 8,000 will train and advise the Afghans, and the rest would conduct counterterror operations. Nato countries will contribute another 4,000 or more troops.

re: Pakistan launches Zarb e Azb

Once again, a terrorist leader is threatening civilians with revenge attacks; and mainly those who are actively participating in the economic progress of Pakistan. Pakistan has long been plagued with terrorism; a recent example of which we have seen at Karachi airport. It is has been unfortunate to witness such a brazen attack which took the lives of many innocent people. We support the Pakistani government and military in their quest to restore peace and stability in their country. As our State Department Spokesperson Jen Psaki has said, “This is a Government of Pakistan operation. We’ve long supported Pakistan efforts to extend their sovereignty throughout the country and stability throughout the country."

re: Pakistan launches Zarb e Azb

I don't know if obama administration would have paid pakistan back then for new cities as Holbrooke, a very tough man, wanted up to $100 billion dollar marshal plan for pakistan but he never got any takers in the US govt with the military always ridiculing him. Hillary herself had to stand up for that guy and the post is useless now with him gone. All of the gory details were given in a book by his adviser Vali Nasr some time ago.

The only problem now is dair aaye so neither is there any US presence on the afghan border nor is there any appetite for giving aid to Pakistan post-2011 or with american weariness with iraq / afghanistan. It would take another decade of quiet for american public to forget the past adventures.

PS Can't and haven't the militants blended in the civilian population in the past to escape? The lal masjid 'mujahideen' didn't take long to escape in burqas when the going got tough so you would need intel based vetting of refugees and I doubt that pakistan is MI-5 or FBI here.

Is operation over?

Pakistan is fighting a war which would determine its future, the war which would tell us that are we going be Iraq, Syria, Libya and Egypt or we are going to be the one who crushed the menace of terrorism for good...our Jawans are sacrificing their lives... And we are busy what kinds of TuQ or shk Rasheed or pervaiz illahi has to say...the one who got rejected by the people of Pakistan.

Our leadership are calling for new elections without knowing that the country is in state of emergency, these terrorists can attack anywhere and anytime...but that is not their concern...

Just to update, yesterday security forces managed to destroy the communication apparatus of these terrorists...but why should be this an important news?

re: Pakistan launches Zarb e Azb

Any update on refugee facilities? Who is heading refugee/IDP program, where are they being hosted?

Is there any political mileage in doing this service, than I guess political parties would be doing it.. But I guess they have other non issues which are more important to them... So far, Army and some Edhi type organizations are looking after them... Just wait till the dust settle...all will be running and claiming the best service provider to these IDPs
