KARACHI: Over 50 people were reportedly killed as Pakistan Air Force (PAF) jets bombed hideouts of suspected militants in Dattakhel area of North Waziristan early on Sunday, Express News reported.
In the second wave, the air force carried out shelling in the Mir Ali area of North Waziristan.
An Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) press release confirmed that terrorists linked to planning the attack on Karachi airport were present in the hideouts that were bombed.
At least 37 people, including 10 terrorists, were killed in the all-night battle at Jinnah International Airport that had started on June 8. The Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan (IMU) had claimed responsibility for the attack.
The ISPR stated that mostly Uzbek foreigners were killed in the strikes. An ammunition dump was also destroyed, according to the press release.
There were earlier reports that 150 people had been killed, but this death toll could not be confirmed at this time.
Following the incident, the local political administration imposed a curfew in the area for an indefinite period.
Previous bombings
On Jun 10, aerial bombing in Tirah valley of Khyber Agency killed at least 25 militants.
On May 23, gunship helicopter and jet planes bombed hideouts of suspected militants in North Waziristan, killing four and injuring three others.
Pakistan Army troops are being deployed in the federal capital from today (Sunday) in the wake of threats of possible terrorist attacks, Express News reported.
According to Islamabad police sources, two companies, comprising 250 soldiers, will be deployed to beef up security in the federal capital.
The security of the red zone and other sensitive offices and buildings is being tightened, they said.
The Diplomatic Enclave is among the parts of the federal capital where army troops will take up security responsibilities.
Army personnel will also be deployed on all routes leading to the the Red Zone.
Meanwhile, it has been decided that the Rangers will patrol the Margala Hills round the clock
Dunya News reports that ISPR has released a statement saying that on the directives of the Govt. of Pakistan a comprehensive operation, "Zarb-e-Azb", has begun to flush out the terrorists hiding in North Waziristan and now the ground forces are moving in.
RAWALPINDI: The army has officially launched a highly anticipated operation in North Waziristan, according to an ISPR press release.
“DG ISPR has said that on the directions of the Government, Armed forces of Pakistan have launched a comprehensive operation against foreign and local terrorists who are hiding in sanctuaries in North Waziristan Agency. The operation has been named Zarb-e-Azb,” said the press release.
The statement went on to add that terrorists in N Waziristan had waged a war against the state of Pakistan and had been disrupting our national life in all its dimensions, stunting our economic growth and causing enormous loss of life and property. “They had also paralyzed life within the agency and had perpetually terrorized the entire peace loving and patriotic local population,” the statement added.
“Our valiant armed forces have been tasked to eliminate these terrorists regardless of hue and colour, along with their sanctuaries. With the support of the entire nation, and in coordination with other state institutions and Law Enforcement Agencies, these enemies of the state will be denied space anywhere across the country. As always, armed forces of Pakistan will not hesitate in rendering any sacrifice for the motherland,” said the statement.
If the operation has really begun, we all should side with the army regardless of our political inclinations. The military should do its utmost to prevent civilian casualties as a result, and the provincial governments should beef up their security/intelligence to avoid a backlash.
There'll be back lash and retaliation, we must be ready for that, we should keep an open eye and should know what is going on around us, it is not an easy war, the enemy is in the mosques, in our neighborhood, it need to be identified, we have lost 60,000 of our brothers and sister, thousands have been wounded and cannot have a normal life again, millions of lives are directly or indirectly effected from these TTP terrorists, all that when we were just defending them, thinking them that they are our brothers who have lost their way.. now it is other way around, their are going to be civilian casualties it cant be avoided, we need to have patience and stand with our army..

The Best message Pakistan Govt can send to those who have been killing our daughters is that it is the "Women Pilots" of PAF who are carrying out the Bombing Raids over the "WaZaleelistan" and its Capitol soon to be Weraanshah!
