Well they’re certainly not Kashmiri, they’re related to Punjabis, they speak Pahari/Potohari whereas kashmiris speak koshur(a dardic language) and historically Mirpur and present-day Azad Kashmir was part of Greater Punjab before Ranjit Singh gifted it to the Sikh ruler of J&K.
They just have an inferiority complex, claiming to be ‘Kashmiri’, they think they’re too cool to be Pakistani because of Pakistan’s present image in the world so they’re really zealous about a separate ‘country’, but real Kashmiris and I mean people with kashmiri blood like my family aren’t ashamed of Pakistan.
Most of these Mirpuris don’t even have Kashmiri surnames like Mir,Butt,Dar,Lone,Khawaja,Wyne,Mantu etc
