Pakistan cricket .... In crisis or a passing phase?

well how about that...
Yousuf and Waqar's wives had an argument thats why Waqar and youhana had some bad blood too.....

Well this is another story i read in one news papers...
Its just ridiculous how these stories pop up when a team is not doing well...

Khabrain is known to use mirch masala in there articles....
Lets hope most of news papers are wrong...

:D

Sighs as always no matter what happens Wasim will end up getting the blamme :-/

I agree with Question. I think Saeed, Waqar, and Wasim need to retire so younger players get more chances. Especially Waqar, I think his bowling has been terrible in the couple of series and his captincy has been equally stupid. Also, Pakistan needs a coaching change. I think dumbest move they made was to send Afridi at no.9 in the Morroco series. Javed Miandad should be the coach, and Rahid Latif or Razzaq could be the captain. Inzamam should remain vice-captain, maybe, but he should certainly not be made captain and he should also improve his feilding and running between the wickets. You can't just sit back and hit fours and sixes, singles and doubles are a very important part of the game. I think Misbah should open the innings with Afridi, cuz one is a solid player and the other a fast player. I think Nazir should be givena chance to play in the team as well. Afridi and Nazir are young players, they needed to given chances. They have always played under pressure. If one batsmen doesn't perfrom one day, he is out the next day. No one can peform under pressure. The PCB makes a consistent team and tell the players that you will be given your chance and even if you don't perfrom in a few matches, you will be in the team, so the players can be relaxed, especially younger players in the team. Inzamam not playing is a big blow to the Pakistani team.

PCB in catch-22 situation after Colombo debacle
14 September 2002

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) was left in a catch-22 situation as the team's consistent poor performance has opened up a debate and has led to severe public outcry.

The PCB chairman Lt Gen Tauqir Zia summoned his cabinet in Rawalpindi Saturday morning for an emergency meeting "to analyze the recent performance of the team and management".

The meeting will be attended by chairman of selectors Wasim Bari, general manager cricket operations Zakir Khan and director Chisty Mujahid.

The pundits of the game were anticipating sweeping changes and their predictions were being vehemently supported by the cricket crazy followers.

A survey conducted revealed that nearly 84 per cent of the cricket enthusiasts wanted the team management and the top notches to be fired. However, 11 per cent demanded the sacking of the team management and retaining the side while the rest were not bothered.

The initial feedback from the PCB quarters was that changes would be made in the Pakistan team setup with the management and some players likely to get the axe. However, the changes at this time might prove disastrous as despite being all but eliminated from the ICC Champions Trophy, the team is still on tour andunlikely to return.

"The Pakistan team will remain the guest of the ICC until Sept 24 because it is committed to attend several official functions. And with the first Test against Australia beginning from Oct 3, there is a possibility that the team might not return to Pakistan at all," Chisty Mujahid said from Lahore.

In this background, it would be unwise if the PCB goes for an overhaul and make the team management and senior boys face further humiliation by sacking them while they are on tour.

Secondly, the PCB has not yet managed to get hold of a foreign coach but Chisty said he would be much better placed to answer this question only Saturday evening. He, nevertheless, maintained that the PCB had not contacted anyforeigners.

Thirdly, skipper Waqar Younis was being tipped to be replaced as search for a scapegoat continues. But fact of the matter is that Waqar holds an excellent record as captain. He has an impressive 63.8% success rate in 47 one-day games while he has an 80% success rate in Tests.

Even if the PCB is contemplating a change, there seems to be no available choice available, except recalling Moin Khan. But then recalling the wicketkeeper would mean dismissal of Rashid Latif who has done a brilliant job since his return last May.

Nevertheless, the followers of the game were not in a compromising mood and have demanded that heads should roll.

"If we have to lose by 224 runs, then by eight wickets and again by eight wickets, why play with aging and veteran cricketers. Why not inject new blood and lose," argued 28-year-old Fawad Mustafa.

Mustafa Kamal, a banker working in Kuwait, sent an email saying: "Our big guns are now working on ad hoc basis."

Another 23-year-old fan Nauman-ul-Haq slammedthe team saying: "If the cricketers have any grace left, they should start packing their bags and plan to do something else."

Khawaja Fariduddin, a cricket fanatic, believed it was a conspiracy against Waqar. He said he couldn't understand why a winning team turned into the whipping boys, adding he was sensing something serious was boiling in the dressing room.

If there was harsh criticism on the team, some took a more sympathetic course.

"I believe, the PCB are to be blamed for the scenario because they made the players to compete in avoidable off-shore venues. Instead of curtailing their schedule, they made the players play all over the world," Aftab Ahmad, 48-year-old engineer, said.

"The boys are clearly drained, mentally and physically, and that's showing in their performance. They need a well deserved rest so that they can recharge their batteries and get back to business," Raheel Shamsi, an automobile engineer, observed.

Fawad Lodhi, a merchant Navy officer, said: "I don't think there is any need to press the panic button because when you play non-stop cricket, the performance of the team and the players is bound to slump and that's what has happened to the Pakistan team."

Ali Ahmad, a businessman, noted: "The worst part was that all the players were out of form at the same time. But I still have confidence in these players and only minor problems need to be tackled instead of making sweeping changes."

Pakistan prove to be consistently inconsistent
Touqir Hussain - 10 September 2002

The auther is the Pakistani ambassador to Japan. These are his personal views.

A very thought provoking article and one I agree with fully. Please read it.

Since Imran Khan’s departure most of Pakistan’s captains have been either bowlers or wicket-keepers and neither batting strategists nor inspirational leaders. The team on the batting side has therefore been entirely on its own. Its output has rested exclusively on individual talent, and we have owed our successes as much as our failures to individual performances

What non-sense!

Why did he duck Javed Miandad? When Javed was a Captain, Pakistan’s performance was more better than Imran. This ambassador needs some correct info. Who’s the ambassador of Pakistan to Japan, anyway?

Javed Miandad - The Fighter

As a captain, Miandad was a shrewd tactician, and his success rate in Test matches exceeds that of Imran Khan. Out of 34 Tests, he won 14 and lost six, a success percentage of 61.75 as compared to Imran’s 56.25. And, as Imran’s deputy, his services were so highly valued that one noted scribe commented, ‘Miandad is a very good captain with Imran leading the side’

**A big hundred (163) on his Test debut against New Zealand, six double centuries, 23 hundreds (both Pakistan records), with an average of 50 in Tests (from his first innings to his last, his Test average never dipped below 50, a world record!); in one-day matches, eight hundreds and 50 half-centuries. He is also (and shall remain for some time to come), the only cricketer to have played in all the first six World Cups. He narrowly missed the seventh as a coach when he resigned on the eve of the '99 version. But he reclaimed his position eight months later, in February 2000. **

The Fact is, PCB is ignorant and arrogrant!

Pick? Oh bhai, talent has to sharpen each and everytime. For that, you need a coach/person like Javed Miandad, who sharpened Afridi!

Today, no doubt, Afridi definitely needs Javed's coaching.

PT, Javed Miandad was a good player but when it came down to coaching he was just like Nzar, Mushtaq Mohammad and others.
He was the coach couple years ago and was kicked out due to Pakistan's failiure overseas including an unsuccessfull tour of Newzeland and Westindies, what makes you say he will be good now.
I say instead of blaming on the failiures on just and coach and captain, it should also be blamed on the management and selection committee meaning that they never chose right players for right series.
They repeatedly chose players like Imran Nazir, Azhar Mahmood, Afridi after repeated failiures overseas and never really gave young players like Basit Khan, Muhammad Zahid, Danesh Kaneria, and other young sensations a chance in the international scene.
So far Waqar has been the most successful Pakistani captain since Imran but still he is getting the boots, no doubt he has made some extremely stupid decsions for the past couple months but him and Nazar shouldn't be held responsible for this all alone.

Huh

Whatever you say, PCB is arrogrant and ignorant.

I remember Afridi's highest score in ODI is 109 against India in Sahara Cup. Hmmm, who was the coach of the team that time?---> JAVED MIANDAD

I provided the damn source of Javed's career, proving him to be better as a Captain of the team than Imran. If he was better at Captaincy, sure he can lead the team in a better way.

He resigned from the coaching of Pakistan 3 months before the WC 99 started. Infact, PCB didn't want to give Javed's money demand.

He wanted 2 lakh ruppees as a Coach of Pakistan. PCB rejected and brought physcian, paying him 7 lakh pounds annually. I don't know the name of the person.

Don't agree. Okay.

PT bhai, read carefully before commenting, he said most of the captains, not all, so he did not duck javed. Furthermore he does not say Imran was more sucessful then Javed.

So chill

No need to get heated over an argument PT.

If you don’t know Javed Miandad coached the Pakistani team after WC99 as well, he was fired due to repeated failiures overseas.

Take a look at yourself.

Miandad Sacked 1

Miandad sacked 2

well Javed wasnt sacked because of teams failures
i think he and senior playes didnt go along well
that wa sthe only reason he was replaced otherwise he has the most cricketing knowledge in the whole pakistan...
anyways imran khan speaks very highly of mudassar nazar as the coach so he must have something....
God knows what is wrong ;)

Did you read my source carefully, Eshan Bhai?

It is me, who’s saying Javed was better than Imran on the basis of source.

Also, the Ambassador didn’t mention Javed when he was a Captain.

It got on my nevers :mad2:

Okay, I’m gonna chill with ya.

Oye, I didn’t say Miandad coached Pak team after WC99. I said he resigned it before WC99 started.

BS!

Pakistan has faced 7 defeats in a row!

Shouldn’t we sack the whole damn team as well?

Pakistan Cricket In Deep Touble

Well there has been such problem before with cricketers and whenever all looks good you would find every thing suddenly with bad patch.I do think nothing wrong with pakistan cricket talent but groups, politics, match fixing and betting, preference money over country, arguements over money and minor matters, lack of spirit to play for pride of country, lack of communication, poor coach and manager, improper handling of team matters like yohana,s case, player power, lack of friendly envoronment and team spirit, lack of panning and not following what committed in team meeting and many others.
Many friends would say when team is winning all is right and now team is losing and weakness coming out. There is always work to do to improve in and out field activites of players whether winning or losing. It is mistake to take of foot off the brake or close the eyes in good days and not concentrate on any big or small problem which may be hidden in happy and winning streak. In that case if the mistakes are not corrected in time with proper application, the result is huge pile of problems what we are seeing presently in the form of worst performance of cricket team.
Every body has own views and ideas about it but realistically what should be key to get the right level again before the world cup please share your point of view .

Mudassar’s job on the line

Pakistan coach Mudassar Nassar says his team is in crisis following a string of poor performances which could cost him and skipper Waqar Younis their jobs.

The former test batsman has been urgently summoned home by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) after a defeat by Sri Lanka in the opening Champions Trophy game virtually knocked the side out of the 12-team competition in Colombo.

“I spoke to the General (PCB chairman Tauqir Zia) and he wanted me to take the first available flight out, to discuss something about team problems,” Mudassar said on Sunday.

“It could mean the coach being changed, it could mean captain being changed. It could mean a new strategy for the team, new players,” he told reporters.

In Pakistan PCB director Chishty Mujahid told Reuters: "Team coach Mudassar Nazar has been asked to come from Sri Lanka and brief the Chairman on where things have gone wrong in the team recently.

“It is only after the Chairman has spoken to him, gone through the reports of the team manager and doctor and consulted with some former senior players that decisions would be taken on the composition of the side for the test series.”

The PCB held an emergency meeting in Rawalpindi on Saturday.

“The meeting was required to look at things in the proper perspective and take stock of the situation,” Mujahid said. “We don’t want to take any hasty decisions and regret it later. After all this team has been doing well since last year.”

The PCB officials left everyone guessing by not confirming Waqar Younis as captain for the test series against Australia.

Younis hassled Pakistan to 28 wins in 43 one-day Internationals since being appointed captain in April 2001, taking 71 wickets.

But Pakistan have lost six of their last 10 one-day internationals.

POOR FITNESS

Nassar said the team was struggling because of poor fitness levels which could affect their performance in next month’s test series against Australia, to be played in Sri Lanka and Sharjah.

"There is a crisis, in the sense the team has done so well before the last three tournaments, won the majority of matches compared to the rest of the teams.

“But the drop has been pretty steep and has caught everyone by surprise. Once the slide started it has been very difficult to stem it.”

Pakistan recently roped in Australian physiotherapist Dennis Waight to improve fitness levels.

The side have suffered a blow before the Australia series with top batsman Inzamam-ul Haq ruled out with a heel injury that looks likely to require a surgery.

The 32-year-old has been sidelined for the Champions Trophy, adding to the side’s batting woes.

Pakistan will also miss opener Saeed Anwar and Wasim Akram when they take on the formidable Australia, both the experienced players opting to mull over their future international careers.

Anwar’s absence could throw the opening combination into further uncertainty because young Imran Nazir is out of form.

Mudassar said the inability to play at home owing to security problems was also taking its toll on the players.

New Zealand were the last team to tour Pakistan in May this year, but abandoned the trip on the morning of the second test in Karachi after a bomb blast outside their hotel killed 14 people.

“It has affected us a lot, the younger players in particular. We don’t get the breather we need and the Pakistan public is starved of seeing its heroes.”

Pakistan are not scheduled to host a home test series until after the February-March World Cup in South Africa, when India are due to arrive in April.

But the tour is in doubt because the Indian government has refused permission for bilateral tours owing to political tension between the neighbours.

Explanation on Poor Performance of Pak Team Demanded

ISLAMABAD, September 15 (PNS): Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) taking strict notice of poor performance of team in ICC Champions Trophy has acquired explanation from team Mismanagement.

Sources have also revealed that PCB has also demanded separate reports from Manager Cricket team Yawar Saeed, Coach Mudassar Nazar and Pakistani Captain Waqar Younus on the poor performance of the team.

The said demand has been done in order to devise a future course of action for the team. Massive changes are also expected in Pakistan Cricket team.

A meeting on the cricket affairs, discussing the performance of the Pakistan Team in recent events held on Saturday under the chairmanship of Chairman PCB Lt. General Tauqir Zia.

Senior officials of the Board including Chairman Selection Committee Wasim Bari attended the lengthy meeting lasting the whole day.

Expressing satisfaction on the conduct of the tournament held in Kenya, the meeting conveyed its gratitude to the Kenya Cricket. It also put on record, our gratitude to the Pakistan State Oil, for sponsoring the home series and to TWI for assisting in organizing and marketing of the event. The meeting was informed that PCB did not make a loss on this tournament. However, if there is a profit it will be small and minimal.

The selectors also submitted a list of probable who may be considered for the forthcoming home Test series against Australia. The list submitted to the Chairman PCB, will be finalized after he receives a report of the Manager, Coach and Doctor of the team as well detailed opinion of all the selectors.

The Coach of the Pakistan Team Mudassir Nazar is being invited to give his views and discuss the performance of the Pakistan side with the Chairman.

The meeting also discussed arrangements for the forthcoming test series between Pakistan and Australia, in which one test will be played at Colombo and two tests at Sharjah.

The probables who will consider for the test squad will be finalized after the above reports have been received by the Chairman, from team officials and selectors. These include the Saqlain Mushtaq, Taufeeq Umar, Imran Farhat, Faisal Iqbal, Muhammad Zahid, Danish Kaneria, Moin Khan and Misbah-ul-Haq.

Moin Recalled But Waqar’s Extension Put on Hold

http://www.gupistan.com/gallery/1/show_image1fgfd.jpg

ISLAMABAD, Sept 14: The Pakistan cricket managers, who met here under the chairmanship of Lt Gen Tauqir Zia, decided to recall discarded wicketkeeper Moin Khan for next month’s Test series against Australia.

Moin, who has been out of the team for quite sometime now, is among a list of eight probables submitted by the chairman of selectors Wasim Bari in a marathon meeting held to discuss Pakistan team’s showing in recent tournaments.

The list, apart from Moin, has Saqlain Mushtaq, Taufiq Umar, Imran Farhat, Faisal Iqbal, Mohammad Zahid, Danish Kaneria and Misbah-ul-Haq.

But an official of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), requesting anonymity told Dawn that the probables would be finalised after Gen Tauqir receives the reports from the team manager, coach and the doctor on the national side’s performance in the tournaments played abroad.

The Test series against Australia that was to be played at home but has now been split between Colombo and Sharjah is due to start on October 3 with the opening match in Sri Lanka and the other two in the desert sands of the United Arab Emirates.

Interestingly, the PCB managers did not name the captain for the series. Waqar Younis was earlier given an extension until the ICC Champions Trophy in which Pakistan play Holland on Sept 20. Pakistan are all but out of the tournament after suffering an eight-wicket defeat against Sri Lanka on Sept 12.

Saturday’s meeting, also attended by the Director of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chisty Mujahid, general manager cricket operations Zakir Khan and Bari, decided that coach Mudassar Nazar be asked to discuss the side’s performance with the PCB chairman.

In the wake of Pakistan’s poor run in recent tournaments, the PCB hierarchy discussed the performance of Mudassar and team manager Yawar Saeed but did not make a final decision on their cricketing fate.

Mohsin Khan was appointed as the batting coach of the National Academy while Abdul Raqib was named on the national selection committee in place of Aqib Javed who had resigned earlier. The rest of the committee would remain unchanged with Bari at the helm and Shafiq Ahmed as its member.

A host of other matters also came up for discussion including the captaincy which insiders said would stay with Waqar Younis.

The house expressed satisfaction over the recent triangular “home” series played in Kenya but said that profit from the tournament would be meagre. “We did not suffer any losses from this event but we are expecting only a small profit because this is one disadvantage of playing a home series away,” the PCB official said.

Tauqir meanwhile plans to have a meeting with some senior former Test cricketers shortly in a bid to put the Pakistan team back on track and to seek their opinion on other cricketing matters.

AFP ADDS: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) put on hold a decision to extend the tenure of captain Waqar Younis in the wake of team’s recent poor performance and have summoned coach Mudassar Nazar from Sri Lanka.

“A high level meeting of the PCB did a postmortem of the team’s recent performance and showed concerns of the slump in the form and have asked the coach Nazar to come from Sri Lanka to give a report,” a PCB spokesman told AFP.

**“Nazar would come before Pakistan’s match against the Netherlands in the ICC Champions Trophy.” **

Waqar was appointed captain until the on-going ICC (International Cricket Council) Champions Trophy in Sri Lanka but is feared to lose the job after Pakistan fared badly in the Morocco Cup, tri-series in Kenya and the ICC event.

**Pybus Gets Third Term **

KARACHI, Sept 14: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has reached an agreement with South African Richard Pybus to take over the charge of the team as coach.

It was, however, still unclear when the English-born and two-time former Pakistan coach will assume the charge.

But it is presumed that the man who guided Pakistan to 1999 World Cup final will begin his third term with the tour to Zimbabwe if not from the series against Australia.

COMMENTS: PCB should make Javed as a Coach of Pakistan. If they don’t, then they are truly arrogrant and ignorant. Why calling talent from overseas when Pakistan already got one
