I think what Pir saab is trying to say in these four pages is that the “C” is driven from the confusion in culture, religion and language. A fob could be equally confused as a xbcd in these areas. Since the word ‘burger’ wouldn’t suffice, I guess fob should be changed to something else..any suggestions?

The reputation that Pakistanis from back home have in the minds of Pakistanis living abroad says quite a bit about how an authentic Pakistani is soooooooo great of a person. Forget about muslim, woh tho duur ki baath hai. Lets help our fellow Pakistanis try to be humans rather than animals first.

There is no single definition of Pakistani-ness, anyway. It keeps on evolving.

it keeps evolving, and the definition is different for different people, based on age groups, socioeconomic background, religion, sect etc etc.

so at any given times there are numerous constantly evolving defintions of pakistani-ness that are floating around :)

and then we get blamed for being confused.

I would have to look up my evolution maps to tell you whether horses evolved from pigs or pigs from horses, or hell, we can go all intelligent design if you want to.

However, horses have some nobility to them. So yeah, its a start.

Not unless you want to. The thing is you are not 'confused' if you think you are not. This is more or less a self-inflicted title. People who are born in Pakistan, and especially those who stay in Pakistan, do not even have to grapple with the question as to what is Pakistani-ness. Its a non-issue.

and its not foriegn born desis who call themselves abcds, and its not burgers who gave them the title of burger.

and you are incorrect that people in pakistan do not have to grapple with the issue of how pakistni they are or not. Do we not see ppl questioning the pakistani-ness of burgers, in pakistan by other pakistanis, I mean even if you keep us farangi desis out of the equation.

Fact remains, people in Pakistan do question other groups pakistani-ness, maybe it makes them feel better about their own pakistni-ness, but then what do I know. I dunn live there.

Defining Pakistani-ness (or the core values of being Pakistani) is a much more involved discussion than to mock someone for being burger, mummy daddy or lalloo khaitiya. Apples and oranges.

how wrong, your own publications and media questions why teh new generation or why this grtoup or that group is so far away from its heritage..its beyond a person mocking another, it is an ongoing discussion and one that has been around forever.

the examples of burgers, mumy daddy and lalu khetia were given to drive a point across they each of them do not meet the pakistsani-ness criteria of each other or of other groups.

Are u kidding me? Pakistanis living in Pakistan are still trying to figure out what sets them apart from Hindus, culturally. If it wasn't for Islam, then Pakistanis would be no different than Hindus. And the irony is that even with Islam, Pakistanis really are no different than Hindus.

Are we attempting to discuss Pakistan's heritage and how far away (or not) the young generation is from it, or we just want to insert the word "confused" to born-and-raised Pakistanis and feel good? While a discussion on the former has some intellectual value, the later is just an exercise in time-pass.

Pakistan is not a conformist society. And like any multi-facet society, there are differences. Which is all good. Societies evolve, and invariably there will be people who keep complaining. Personally, I think they should move with the cheese.

Even FOB's have this idealistic notion of Pakistan frozen in their brains. Thats why on every visit back to the homeland, some of them, express surprise and frustration at how things are not as good as they remembered.

Faisal, every time I go to Pakistan, the garbage disposal problem in karachi seems to get worse. Last time I went, I swear there was not one galli I went to that didn’t smell like human crap or rotten fish. So really, things are not as good as I remember them.

I dont know what ‘we’ are discussing, but my point is fair and simple, the same points that people born in pakistan use towards foriegn born pakistanis and label them confused could very easily be applied at majority of Pakistanis by pakistanis themselves.

if this is just time poass, I am assuming that you will not waste your or our time in this thread now.

I have a cough friend (well not really friend) who i cannot stand.. their habits, thinking, epitomizes everything paki to me which aint good..like for example, i told her abt a pretty nasty incident tht happened n she started laughing saying, “jaani mubarak ho ! its pakistan , u shud be flattered n enjoy it !” :yukh:

I think if i was surrounded by a$sholes like that all my life, n im guessing theres quite a few ppl who wud say that and think like that, i’d hate pakistan and pakis n never have anything to do with it :halo:

I am not talking about the blame game here or who’s fault it is, but just understanding that how many people actually meet this elusive standard of Pakistani-ness that foriegn born Pakistanis get mocked about. The understanding here that in Pakistan there are those who are confused is the truth and I am glad to see it. However, I maintain that we keep a mypic view of the vraiance here. do we really think that the chichoars in lalu khet have a good handle on what being a Pakistani is and they meet all the expectations of that standard well?

its a simple introspection exercise..to really see what is it that we consider as Pakistani, and do people in Pakistan meet that standard.

YAAR wen one harbors enmity or irritation for watever reason in ones heart one sees the negetive factors only,the opposite is true as well.while u may have met n talked to pakistanis who resort to name calling n stereotyping people abroad [oppsosite is true in pcgs form] i refuse to believe keh u havent met decent pakistanis who make u feel that pakistan has some hope.

i have said before keh muslims abroad r the reason why islam is spreading n we pakistanis r proud that it is spreading becoz of muslims abroad,there r others who believe so too.my sister mom n dad also believe the same n i assure u our circle of friends etc does not consider muslims abroad with disdain.

i cud also give example of my cousin who lives with a stripper n drinks but y look at the -ve side only,handful of muslims changed the world,handful of muslims will change the world in the future wen the muslim ummah has been divided into 72 sects ,if u believe in ahadith about the future of muslim ummah.

i think this thread shud b closed now,it has lost its meaning as always.
