lol why does it even matter? People do stuff anyways, we don’t need the government to put up c-grade festivals to ‘commemorate’ the new year. besides, isn’t new year’s in Pakistan according to the islamic calendar? i can complain about a lot of things that the government doesn’t do but celebrating new years isn’t one of them.

islamic new year is based on lunar cycles...phases of the moon. how the hell is one calendar superior to the other? while there may not be any significance attached to celebrating jan 1st what in the world is wrong with celebrating, inviting a few people over for dinner and doing it the halaal way??
now if your argument is that celebrating with alcohol, drugs, partying is wrong...it makes some sense to relate it to religion.
Since the islamic new year starts with crying (muharram) whats the problem with celebrating a bit on jan 1st...with the full knowledge that it is meaningless? how does celebrating on jan1st conflict with the islamic new year....(calling it the ISLAMIC new yr is wrong in itself it just so happens that people used the moon as reference and that Muhammad's family was killed during the month of muharram)
your daily life corresponds more with western calendar than it does with islamic one....does that make you any less muslim?

Besides if we are muslims then we should celebrate and observe events and important dates based on the Islamic calendar and not the gregorian calendar.

Those people who just want to party still celebrate basant, they’ll find all kinda excuses to “celebrate”. The crowd which mostly is against celebrating “New Year” is very likely to NOT celebrate basant either. so there

Do you really believe that I have any reservations in debating any subject with you? Do you sincerely think that? My comments about the leap you take in accusing cricketplaya of being brainwashed or a prime candidate to be brainwashed because of his testosterone levels are nothing but sincere. I honestly think that your post was ludicrous and was very genuinely congratulating him for not taking the "bait" which you laid out.

Pakistan celebrates valentine's day so why should new years be treated indifferently. Perhaps the earthquake was the reason why there was no celebration (and rightfully so) but to excuse it with oh its a muslim country.. come on.. u possibly cant be that naive!!
