Pakistan and New Years

Re: Pakistan and New Years

Yeah the Gregorian calendar is an 'Eeswi (Christian) Calendar, its beginning, middle or end have no meaning, just numbers. Ours is the lunar Hijri calendar

I suppose certain individuals who are dieing to celebrate Xmas and New Year are just loners who are desperate to be accepted by their colleagues, hence the wannabe mentality, can’t think for themselves, they don’t have the confidence and have a fear of being different. Whereas people like me just don’t give a f… and take great pride in who they are and what they stand for.

Why celebrate New Year at all? We only have two Festivals a year, I bet half these people who celebrate Xmas and New Year will treat the Festivals of their own religion as "just another day", if they're like that I'd hate to imagine what their children and grandchildren will be like.

Re: Pakistan and New Years

O I hear her.

Good luck gudia, hope you get on the right path. Do not misunderstand me. I am no maulwi or whatever you want to call me. I am normal 18 y/o male from Canada trying to best represent my beliefs. I was born in Okara (punjab) and at the age of 6 or 7 we came to Canada. I have only been back to Pakistan once. Hope to go back soon. Just pray.

Re: Pakistan and New Years

Oh my goodness…18 a mere baby:D
but bright and mature sounding

Re: Pakistan and New Years

celebrating new year is no more linked with a certain religion so it cannot qualify as non muslim event! same goes for bassant n other events including valentine's day.

Re: Pakistan and New Years

celebrating birthday is no problme but plz. islam doesn't recognise 25th december as the auhenticated date of birth of jesus!

Re: Pakistan and New Years

celebrating birthdays is no problem?? where are getting this from? you should really go to the local mosque and ask.

and it does not matter if the event is linked to any religion or not, it is still unIslamic.

Re: Pakistan and New Years

That explains a whole lot.

Re: Pakistan and New Years

A whole lot? Elaborate please. :D

Re: Pakistan and New Years

You're a young male. Which means increased testosterone levels. Which means that you're the best target for the maulvi who wants to brainwash you into believing that the west is oh-so-bad. Hence many of the sermons some of the masjids have in which certain western tradtions are declared haraam. Why? You are easily wanting to attach yourself to any cause presented to you which can increase your agitation since the cause is highly controversial. You are like a pit bull who is ready to fight tooth and nail, and the brainwashing wala maulvi loves this, because any fodder he feeds you, you'll pick up and defend like a loyal pitbull.

When you get older and you have more worldly experiences, and you meet more people, and when you have kids, many things that once moved you and excited you in your youth just dont bother you anymore. If you visit this thread in your 30's, you might just laugh at all the posts, and shake your head and go back to following wifey's orders.

Not to mention that you are an immigrant most likely dealing with identity issues. Since Pakistani culture isn't well defined, you've found Islamic culture, which to you, if its not in the Quran or in a hadith and not being talked about at the masjid, then its haraam and you need to stay away from it. This boosts your sense of belonging because you feel like there is an EXCLUSIVE community you belong to, which does not border any practices with any other cultures.

So your feelings of "I am so all that and a bag of chips" are enhanced.

Re: Pakistan and New Years

Ofcourse that is YOUR opinion. Times change. Have you ever been in the masjids that I have been to? I don't think so. I try my best to listen to both sides of the story, now is it my fault that more people are with me than they are with you? That should explain "a whole lot" about yourself. What if I didn't mention my age and my sex? That was my mistake. Well, I think I have to deal with it. Speaking the truth hurts much. Again we all have our own experiences.

right then...

Re: Pakistan and New Years

Its sad that people go around everywhere and spread their lack of knowledge about Islam but when someone decides to inform them regarding their religion, they are labled as brain washers.
PCG, its best if you do not post anything about religion until you have proper knowledge about Islam. Please stick to the sex talk in Life Forums, that is one thing you are good at.

Re: Pakistan and New Years

By the looks of this thread, I'm not the only muslim here who is not uptight about celebrating New Year's or who thinks that thinking of New Year's as haraam is a bit over the board.

Re: Pakistan and New Years

Well said. :k:]

Re: Pakistan and New Years

So what is the difference in recognizing any new year, and celebrating any new year?

Re: Pakistan and New Years

I think you need to point to dictionary.com. Recognizing the new year is just saying hey it's a new year.. by celebrating is like we are saying it is Eid..

Re: Pakistan and New Years

But didn't you say its okay to go out to dinner and that sort of thing on new years? But isn't that what a lot of people do for eid too?

Re: Pakistan and New Years

Again, you have to read it and understand it from my point of view. Like this: You can go out for dinner with your family/friends to stay out of the celebration of the other people. Like protecting yourself. You know what I mean/??
