So, then this muharram you will sit silently in your house and do nothing celebratory, and in fact you will be doing nothing celebratory for the rest of your life for the next 50-100 years, for the earthquake victims.
I'm touched. Many who lie in hospitals will have their lives saved because you chose not to celebrate anything for the remainder of your life. :Salute: Now that's the sign of a true martyr.
Its something called giving respect to the victims, since you lack common sense, you want to celebrate the new years.
Even in Muharram one does not celebrate the new year, but recognize the new year.
actually they did seem to organize a lot to manage the hordes of people that came out, atleast in Karachi. 50 percent of clifton was closed down, police had setup emergency camps with ambulances roaring around, and around midnight the streets of clifton and seaview were jammed. almost as big a crowd as 14th august was around to watch the rather pretty fireworks show (arranged presumably by the city govt). dunno if anything happened after that, i left early.
dont know if theres anything inherently wrong with celebrating new years on January 1st. doesnt show any particular prejudice.. most of these people also celebrate their birthdays on the western calender, and the national day on august 14th.
whats wrong with iit! its a festival celebrated all over the world. Who started it first is of no importance now coz its no more attached to a certain religion or ethenic group.
New Years is not haram but celebrating a non muslim event is unislamic. Some people don’t even know the 12 months of the Islamic calender and we call ourselves Muslims.
Oh come on guys there is no need to fight over things like we should celebrate new year or not or celebrating christmas is haraam come on tell me What is wrong with christmas as a muslim point of view. Does any of u know the purpose of celebrating it probably not. It was the day when Hazrat Eisa were born and according to Quran we should celebrate birthday of every Prophet of God. So why in the H*** we will not celebrate his birth. It's not our belief that is wrong and we do not call him son of God (NaozBIllah) It's those peopl who has lost their mind. Talk about New year, it's not going to hurt us if we celebrate something that is out of our religion and no one said celebrating New year would be Haram if it was It would have been mentioned in Hadees or Quran. Look our fight is not about their celebrations of life, our conflict is about the believes. As in Holy Quran it is been said " Make friendship with the non believers as long as they don't fight you for your beleif(Islam)." I mean it will be outragous to say that we should not celebrate something bcz million of people are suffering. That is a bit on ignorant side, I mean all of us know the facts and we all do what we can to eliminate poverty. I mean if we r that much against USA and all other countries why not send all their help back that we received on Earthquake and how about the billions of dollars that we owe to the world bank. We r all human first if God liked us anymore than a white person living in USA than we must be ruling the world. But the fact is we are all equal. So Please my brothers and siters stop fighting over something that itself is nothig to fight about. We r just arguing bcz it's our nature to go against one another no matter who we r.
Oddly enough this post from PCG made me think.
I tried to find an occassion where I have actually been ashamed of Pakistan. I couldn't find even one.
As ravage has mentioned, the Pakistani government did in fact recognize the New Year. It made sure that facilities were in place, however minor, for those folks that wanted to celebrate.
If they didn't have one huge festival that could be telecast around the world, so what? The country has limited finances and is based on a different religion and varying cultures.....why the need to compete with the rest of the world?
There is no better recognition and respect than being proud of our differences. Those that I know and respect give greater rank to people that can stand as individuals and show pride in their own respective cultures and religions rather than falling prey to the need to "fit in".
If you are from Pakistan and living there, may God help that country because people like you are coming from it.. :( it is sad. We do not even know about our own religion and are influenced by the outsiders to add to our religion which was completed by our Rasul! First of all Christmas is a pagan tradition. You guys should really read up on your history books. Christians of those times went into the Roman empire and everytime they had a feast/festival (the romans) the Christians took something of it and mixed it with their religion. That is how you get Christmas, St. Valentines, Easter..etc..
That is why we have ISLAM as our last religion from Allah! Other religions before it just messed up their own! If you love quoting from the Quran then go read the whole translation!
I WOULD LIKE TO CLEAR THIS UP. SAYING SOMETHING IS HARAM IS A VERY STRONG STATEMENT! NOBODY IN THIS THREAD SAID IT WAS HARAM, MAYBE YOU GUYS WERE INFLUENCED BY THE MULLAS IN PAKISTAN..ETC..
We are just saying that these traditions are not meant for Muslims. We just ignore them and not take part in them. It is **advised **by many muftis/scholars around the world.
How was Jesus (PBUH) born during the winter season? Please do tell me. (this is another debate)
Who says we have to celebrate the Prophets' birthdays? It is not advised to celebrate ANY of our Prophets' birthdays.
I can't believe what the Pakistani youth has been thaught, me coming here at the age of 7 from Pakistan to Canada, I have seen/heard many things even the Pakistani mullas... so maybe that is the problem with you guys. You are just in the hollywood/bollywood/lollywood scene where guy meets girl and wow end of story.
Please go read up some more. If you can't find it, I will give you many resources.
Yes very good point indeed! Why do we celebrate hindu traditions.. it's stupid! I have the same point of you on that tradition as I have on new years/christmas/valentines day..
please do not try to put words in people's mouths if you cannot think of a logical way to put us down. that is just being ignorant/arrogant.
cricketplaya, maybe you don’t believe in basant but apparently almost every punjabi does and the tradition has spread into southern pakistan as well now.
Interestingly, it took many deaths from the basant festival for the government to ban the festival in the nation. It sure wasn’t banned because its unIslamic.
Face it. Most of the time you cyber maulvies hammer around here, its against traditions that white people generally celebrate. You guys have this “anti-west” thinking, that everything Islamic is automatically anti-west or anti-white.
Shes absolutely right cricket player…
your views dont correspond with her which means you are one of the “maulvi guys” and are by default totally wrong in your thinking:rolleyes:
