Re: Pak V England - First test Match
For those against playing Faisal Iqbal as an opener becuase it may 'ruin' his career, if you ask Faisal, he'd rather play at #1 than be the twelfth man. Right now with both opening positions lacking stability, we do not need a Saeed/Sohail type of dasher. We need a Shoaib Mohammad/Gavaskar (even Ramiz) type hard worker. Faisal has got it. Nobody comes out of the womb with an opener written on their forehead. If that happened, Sehwag wouldn't be an opener and neither would have Shoaib Malik become such an integral part of our team. Shoaib Malik is a glaring example of how Woolmer can groom a player who are 'willing' to learn and improve. Four years ago, he was number 4 on our desirable all rounders list. Now we have in him a fighting batsman, a handy bowler, a marvelous fielder, and perhaps our future captain.
For those suggesting bringing back and trying Yasir Hameed and Taufeeq Umer again: Taufeeq has a terrible shuffling problem and Yasir Hameed is even worse than Salman Butt when it comes to getting caught behind while attempting to drive. We have seen them play, we don't necessarily to look at the stats, we know these guys do have the problems that will keep our openers dilemma alive. Playing round robin as you suggest (try Butt, Farhat, Taufeeq, Yasir, rinse, repeat) is not going to solve our problems.
With Younis coming in, we either have to drop an all rounder (Razzaq, or Afridi), or drop one of the openers. We don't want to drop Razzaq, as he was the only decent and consistent bowlers we had in this match. We don't want to drop Afridi yet, because he bowled well, is a partnership breaker, morale booster, good fielder, and very hand when we need quick runs and break the opposition's back. The openers have been failing consitently anyway, I am all for giving Faisal a long run at the openers spot. Think of it as if he was coming as one down (which he had to twice already anyway).
That openers coming out of womb with 'openers' written on their faces argument also applies to Shoaib Malik. I have seen consistent opposition to Shoaib Malik on this board, DESPITE the fact that he's been the most successful among all the openers we have tried. What is it with you lot, unless he came into the team AS an opener, there's no way we can try him there despite his successes. And what is it about him not being successful against the moving ball, he's certainly been doing well. Stop using thoughtless cliches you keep catchying from careless Pakistani commentators.

Re: Pak V England - First test Match
For the next test match, Salman Butt should take a rest if Shoaib Malik comes. Faisal Iqbal did a great job and should stay in.
Re: Pak V England - First test Match
What our batsman should do is defend the game. We must not try to loose the wickets that can cause us to lose the match.
Re: Pak V England - First test Match
If Faisal opens, it will ruin his career. Openers are very different as compared to other batsmen. The argument regarding Sehwag is very flawed, he is in no shape or form a reliable opener. He has no technical skills and good foot work.
Shoaib Malik has yet to tranform into a good opener. He seldom performs and mostly a dissapointment. He never looks comfortable, he pitches in because we have no other choice.
Yasir hameed seems more capable than Butt and Farhat. He will not give away his wicket like these two are doing for quite a long period of time.
Re: Pak V England - First test Match
Common Abdul Razzaq, 1 run in 15 balls.
Re: Pak V England - First test Match
Obviously, you didn't even try to understand the actual argument I had made.

Can't understand why all the commentators, reviewers, and sports journalist were lamenting the loss of Shoaib Malik then. Good riddance I say!
We must not care about who performs in the opening position, we must go out and find a RamizRaja branded opener, who's been opening all his life. Yes, that's it. It doesn't matter if our 'branded' opener never makes any runs, and 'makeshift' has been consistently successful, we must play as openers, people who grew up telling everyone that they wanted to become openers one day.

this is just pathetic. I hope someone else responds to it.
Re: Pak V England - First test Match
no body tries to lose wickets... what they can try is to not lose the wicket :D
