I know but if you consider the fact that Shoiab Malik has been opening which is not his speciality than there is no harm in trying Asim Kamal. The worst he can do would be to perform as bad as these so called current openers.

Definetely no to Yasir Hameed - he is not any better then the current openers. Maybe he should be considered if currebtly playing the likes of Bangladesh, India or Sri Lanka on the subcontinent wickets but not on English wickets. He is so terrible to watch when the ball is swinging and he has no clue or technqiue to combat this.

Shoaib Malik has zero reliability factor and won't give any stability as an opener. Hard worker and "willing to learn" is another flawed argument when everyone in Pakistan is willing play and perform for our team. Everyone is ready to pitch in and perform for Pakistan. Shoaib Malik and Faisal Iqbal are no exception.

Yasir has a very good Test and One Day average and strike rate. He was very good in 03/04 against NZ and India and I think dropped prematurely because of his performance against South Africa. Moreover, very good in the slips.

I dont think so faisal will ever opt to open, he is the likely replacement for Inzi whenever he decide to hang the boots, as for Malik transformation I have said before I wish that kind of dedicated focus and concentration was given to an opening pair (Tauffy/Farhat, Butt/Yasir/ Afridi/ Butt...etc) but for now that matter is gone with the wind.

As for Yasir, if you remember he had a nagging habit of edging artistically, ball pitching in the corridor of uncertainity. so far the bottom line is (for the Eng tour) give these two openers (Butt/Farhat) a chance (Test & ODI) even if they play the whole series like the first match outing, if they or either dont succeed then forget them for good.

acrobi123, we can try Butt and Farhat for the entire tour, if they are willing to learn from their mistakes. The way they gave away their wickets were just pathetic and this is becoming a normality. Zero patience and stability. Lords pitch was flat from day one and the turn was not that magnificent. If they had stayed on for a session, we could have been on our way to chase down this total.

I think we should discuss Faisal's position as an opener later after the end of the match. It is an interesting topic which is worth discussing. I hate to miss some interesitng points regarding this topic when we already have a tense situation in the match

^^ so true however, we can rest the argument and seal our lips as we know who will be the opener(s) regardless of who ever is the deserving candidate.
