Overseas Pakistanis

Re: Overseas Pakistanis

Can I just mention since you’ve brought this topic up. Girls who come abroad from Pak ( marrying a guy with a foreign passport etc) develop serious attitude problems. They forget about their past and assume they are from some royal family. When they clearly were from struggling families with 7-8 daughters.

Again i’m not attacking ALL people here :chai:

Re: Overseas Pakistanis

maybe they are finally able to be assertive and confident, something that a girl from a struggling family in pak may not have the luxury of doing. Nothing wrong with that. or should they just be mousey little doormats for everyone in the community to walk over because the girl clearly was from some struggling family with 7-8 daughters...

Re: Overseas Pakistanis

OP: I have deffo come across pakistanis like this, not many, but, well, they do exist lol. I know a guy (yeah alright he's a relative sob)who was born in pakistan but has lived in the uk for about 40 years and whenever he goes to pakistan, he basically doesnt leave the house without a handkerchief cluched to his mouth and nose lol. another person, born in pakistan, been in the UK for 40 years too, complains about the muck and dirty streets when in pakistan, also doesnt drink the local water, compares services there to services in the UK. One guy was criticising the way pakistani politicans dress and how theyre all overweight, whilst he was ranting this his jelly belly was wobbling along in rage. Sigh.

Re: Overseas Pakistanis

X2 do you consider yourself a Pakistani? If you do then these things apply to you and are your problems as much as of someone living in Pakistan. So own it rather than complaining about it to people back home.

Re: Overseas Pakistanis

oh the irony. you are demonstrating selective reading here yourself.

Re: Overseas Pakistanis

I dont complain, plus I dont really have anyone there to complain to ..so I dont own it. People there can do as they wish and I will do as I wish. our paths dont intersect unless I run unto someone visiting here.

since I dont complain about the place or its people, I can not be asked to do anything :)

and no I dont consider myself a Pakistani, but someone of Pakistani origin, kinda like many Pakistanis consider themselves of Turk, Iranian, Arab or afghani origin :)

although, a nation of 170 million cant point its fingers at a miniscule percentage that is overseas or is is of Pakistani origin and claim that it is their problem "as much" as it is of the people living there, that only means that those who are living there are not seen as good enough to sort through the issues there.

Re: Overseas Pakistanis

somebody got worked up...ooops :D

Re: Overseas Pakistanis

lol believe me I am not worked up. I'm having a blast. Though you should take note that you in fact were selectively reading, something you accused me of doing.

Re: Overseas Pakistanis

You know that Mama ki Dua didnt mean to say that they should be just doormats. There is a difference between becoming confident and becoming rude.
Lets say if i all of a sudden become a millionaire, that doesnt mean i should become a jerk and start to disrespecting others who now are poorer than i am (because i never had the luxury of doing so before)

Re: Overseas Pakistanis

now i wouldn’t derail the thread like you…especially responding to you getting personal n stuff again n again…:halo:

Re: Overseas Pakistanis

You know what, I think I knew that, but them being from struggling families with 7-8 daughters" caught my attention. I have defintely seen chicas arriving from pakmanland to develop some attitudes, and it has little to do with whether they were from 'struggling families with 7-8 daughters' or only child of a an average family or well off family. Its the choice of words that seemed interesting because it looked like the author was looking down at those ppl looking down at others and statements like forgetting their past etc..and that was amusing :)

Re: Overseas Pakistanis

I hope this thread wasn't triggered because of our conversation.

Personally, I think you misunderstood majority of what I said and took it the wrong way.

Re: Overseas Pakistanis

Ditto! Thank you for getting my point

This is so funny because you kinda missed my point. I'm glad though atleast someone got my point :)

Re: Overseas Pakistanis

this is so funny :chai:

Re: Overseas Pakistanis

cough

Re: Overseas Pakistanis

plz enlighten us, how does this better quality of life make you *superior **to *us third worlders?

So you have assumed that people living in Pakistan are completely ignorant since they probably don't even know what an 'international image' is to begin with, right? And in this age and time one has to go settle in another country to find such things out right? And also one needs to go outside to look into their country's problems in order to understand them better. Now that makes sense. We living here don't know how to improve ourselves... so we need to ask for advice from those living outside, since the moment they left Pakistan their brains had grown out of their heads and they suddenly became wiser.

Then how are they any better than the ones living in Pakistan? Oh sorry because they could afford to leave the country and settle somewhere else where they became superior because their quality of life improved. My bad.

Wait, how do you know someone living in Pakistan hasn't experienced different cultures. You don't have to settle abroad for the rest of your life to have such experiences. Can there be a worse generalization... saying that all the people living in Pakistan are close-minded dumbos!!

Firstly how are all these only the problems of people living in Pakistan and not the expats. The day they decided to leave the country and settle in another one, they also left the responsibility of being a good Pakistani citizen? From then onwards no one could blame them for anything wrong with the country? You think that's fair? Well if you have abandoned it then why do you even care about what happens or does not happen there. It's none of your business. But if you do consider yourself Paksitani then look down on yourself as well for not doing anything for your country as you are also a part of them.

Re: Overseas Pakistanis

no i just think you made your point in a poor manner. :)

Re: Overseas Pakistanis

Oh no not at all. I've been thinking to open such a thread. The conversation just gave me a lot to think about though :)

Re: Overseas Pakistanis

here you go sweetie. wouldn’t want you getting sick

Re: Overseas Pakistanis

Most overseas Pakistanis don't have a superiority complex. That's such a ridiculous thing to say. You claim you aren't saying not everyone is like that yet you go on to say it's prevalent.

Most overseas Pakistanis are too busy in their lives working hard and competing with people from all over the world. Unlike our brethren in Pakistan, we don't have the privilege of living in a house fully paid by our father or ancestors, we don't have the luxury of taking life easy for a couple of months. We need to make sure the household is running because most of us are not in a joint family system where bills are automatically paid and there is always food on the table. Overseas Pakistanis work hard to ensure a good life for themselves and it doesn't come easy.

I do think some local Pakistanis suffer from an inferiority complex. A couple of people I know there get so defensive about Pakistan and hate when we criticize 'their' country since they think we're traitors for abandoning Pakistan and putting down our roots here. They have no sense of positive criticism. Also, overseas Pakistanis are doing a lot for the poor in Pakistan, maybe not as much as we should be but nevertheless it's a lot more than what you locals can do. In fact there are some friends I have in Pakistan who refuse to rejoice in other countries' achievements. I remember when the Chilean miners were rescued and I updated my status regarding it, a friend of mine just went on and on about how Pakistan is ignored and wondered why the world was focusing on Chile?!?! Seriously?! She loves to blame the entire world for Pakistan's problems yet fails to see how the country itself is also responsible for bringing on its own fate. I just think these people are bitter because it's hard not to get bitter given the present condition of the country.
