Next day they went for their honeymoon. They had booked 3 nights at some resort at Poconos Mountains is Pennsylvania. Three nights went by fast and then they were back at their home to start a new life. They were learning more about each other and trying to make adjustments in their life styles for each other. Food was the first issue. Irrum did not use any peppers in the cooking while Ali asked her to make the food spicy. They did not make big deal of any of these small things and rather compromised to the best of their capacities. Ali’s father and sister were still here and that raised some concerns for Irrum. She wanted total privacy and started asking Ali to do something about it. Ali told her to just tolerate them for some time and not to make big deal out of it. It was more of his sister that Irrum had problems with. Irrum went ahead and asked Ali’s brother-in-law to find a separate place for themselves. He quietly complied and moved out soon without letting Ali to know. Now Ali’s father was not any problem for Irrum. She respected him like her own father and he loved her like his own daughter. They started off with a great relationship.

Irrum had started her school again in New York. Ali had quit his job and started his own business. Life seemed to be going smooth for them. In December 1995, Irrum found out that she had gotten pregnant. This gave her a mixed feeling. She was young and still in school. She wasn’t sure if she was ready to handle a baby so soon. Ali however was excited with the news and he assured Irrum that this would have been the best thing for them. They had a beautiful daughter born in August 1996. They named her Ayesha. Ayesha definitely brought happiness in their lives. Irrum was being a really good mother for Ayesha. She unfortunately had to stop her school once again in order to take proper care of her baby.

In December 1996, they all went to Pakistan and had their Walima function for the Ali’s relatives there. Irrum met Ali’s mom, brother and other extended family for the first time. They all were excited to see Ali’s wife as well as his daughter. Irrum somehow did not like Ali’s mom very much. She felt some friction between them but managed to tolerate her for the month she stayed there. They came back to New York after a month. Life was back to normal for them. Ali’s business still wasn’t doing well but he was working hard to make his ends meet gracefully. Irrum never complained about any material things. She was very content and managed to pull through their difficult times very wisely. Towards the end of 1997, Irrum started working at an Islamic school in New York. This job did not pay much but whatever little money she earned was definitely help towards their expenses. She had to leave her daughter with a baby sitter and then go to work. It was really tough but she managed to do this nicely.

Ali still had the trust issue with Irrum and would irritate her by asking questions here and there. Irrum wanted Ali to totally forget about her past while Ali could not easily do so. Once in a while he would ask her question on little suspicions he had. Irrum would answer but got really mad on the situations. Life was going well with normal ups and downs. Ali’s business was still not stable and situation for them was still tough. Ali started to look for a job in his software industry and was able to find a good job at Microsoft in 1998. This new job however required him to relocate to Seattle. Ali accepted the offer and decided to relocate. Ali first moved just himself and then wanted to bring his family in a couple of months. He wanted to make sure if he would have liked the new place and work environment. He was very happy with his new job so he got his own place and moved his family with him by March 1999.

Now this was a new life for them. Ali had moved to this new town after have lived in New York for eleven years. Life was better and looking promising for them. Ali had to work hard in order to prove himself at this new job. He was out of touch with the software industry for three years, as his previous business was not related to it. He had soon gotten himself technically compatible with his position at work. Irrum had started her school once again. In 2000, Ali had gotten his parents come from Pakistan on their immigrant’s visas. Irrum was reluctant to Ali’s decision to bring his parents here especially his mom. But Ali told her to just live with them and not to complain. This started getting ugly from hereon. She was meeting new people at school. At home there was constant bickering between her mother-in-law and herself. Ali started taking his mother’s side all the time. Irrum warned Ali numerous times to get to a realization of the consequences if he had not changed their living arrangement but Ali could not see it clearly.
