genuinely SLAP someone
Happened about 2 weeks ago.
We get a call from the hospital (wife has to go for regular checkups)
The doctor asks us to come, first thing next day morning. We go, totally shocked and very disturbed, at the brief summary that she gave to us on the phone. During the session in her office, she explains the reports and other blah blah blah. We are asked to book an URGENT appointment with another hospital (in another city), to further investigate the condition. (By this time, wife is in tears, myself almost on the brink of losing my head)
Anyway - we make urgent arrangements - go visit the hospital, all doubts are cleared - This doc says “I wonder why she sent you here” . Turns out it was wrong interpretation of the ultrasound reports and a very casual attitude from the recommending doctor.
I go back to the first hospital and now she says to me “Oh yeah - happens sometimes, our machines are a bit old so the images sometimes turn out blurry” … WHATTTTTTTTTTTTT???
And this resulted in a total shock for us. I really wanted to …errrrr do or say something, but controlled myself, thanked her and walked out.
Docs have to be very careful while dealing with sensitive issues.
In some cases it might do a lot of damage, if they dont measure and check their statements before saying anything.
All you wannabe docs / or those who are planning to be one, please keep this in mind
Re: One of the rare times in life when I wanted to...
i know how u feel, my mum was diagnod for cervical cancer by aga khan hospital in Pak, we had her come to US for further tests and treatments and the docs here looked at results, did some more tests ( nothing invasive i.e. no biopsy) and just shook their heads calling AKU ppl a bunch of hacks, there was no cervical cancer.
i dropped a semester then to be with her, all family was worried just cuz a bunch of yaayhoos did not know what the hell they were doing
Re: One of the rare times in life when I wanted to…
unfortunately u r right uncle bhaanday
when I study - most of the time i think of these things n pray that hope i dont end up making this mistake b/c its like playing lives of ppl - harsh n painfull for both patient n doc.
Re: One of the rare times in life when I wanted to...
wow that's very unprofessional. I'm sorry to hear that JB and X2.
Usually a doctor will check thrice before consulting the patient, and when they speak, they wanna have some weight in their recommendations. I've seen cases where such instances may have occured, but the patient was not scared off or told the worst case scenario....instead it usually requires a secondary set of test, just to make sure things are as they look.
Some ppl are not meant to be doctors....yet they make it to being one! :(

I hear ya all da way hommie. But u r right that in JB's case howcome she got freaked out only after looking at ultrasound once. If it was me - i would do anything to find out what n where it went wrong instead of being over confidence n dont bother to check the patient once more to be sure.
Re: One of the rare times in life when I wanted to…
its not just Pakistan mon ami.
in US, a jerk of a doctor refused tio give my wife the treatment that could have stabilised her, and given my unborn children the time and the meds that they would resulted in them being born a few weeks later with more developed lungs etc. begging, pleading, showing him medical studioes did not convince this SOB.
a few months later on discovery channel they show the same doctor in the same hospital giving a women in the exact same situation my wife was in..the exact same treatment that we were begging for, and the arsehole talking all expertly how this is the way to deal with these things.
I have met more lame docs than good docs anyways. I think the profession is drawing the wrong kind of people now.

Just like every profession - hate to admit that Medicine have some politics in it as well. Its sad but bitter reality as well. sometimes docs r helpless.
