I have FOUR words for people who migrate to the West, Integrate, moderate, tolerate and educate. Be tolerant of other people's viewpoints and way of life even if you do not want to embrace or accept certain aspects (as they conflict with your beliefs) of the host culture completely.

The more information that comes to light, the more I believe that this was a frustrated homosexual that simply didn't have the courage to come out. Likely he tried to live a heterosexual life and the consequences of his decision are evident from his ex-wife's testimony. It could even be that this last phone calls pledging allegiance to ISIS were executed to further disguise his reality because some are insisting that he was not religious. Because he couldn't live the way he wanted, he couldn't see others being happy either....

Clearly there are a lot of things that motivate people to commit such crimes. Listened to an interview of a Homosexual muslim on NPR the other day talking about his experience. He said that he struggled with his sexuality to no end. He would look to his faith to find a "solution" to his gay tendencies, but was only told to be even MORE religious. So ironically, his homosexuality made him even more stringent and puritanical in his beliefs...

It's telling that we're not a part of the host culture in defining or attenuating the flux in social change. Forever the outsider? To what end?
When the vast majority of us emigrated, or for those of us born here, our views on homosexuality were more or less in line with the majority of the host culture up until perhaps the mid 90's.
It's perfectly fine to regard homosexuality as abhorrent, sinful, or even criminal. It happens to be very much in vogue by a huge swath of our "host" culture to view Islam in such a light. It's not okay to suggest it validates mass murder; murder is murder.

Our upbringing at home plays a huge part in how we turn out as individuals because home is the second crucial avenue of learning besides formal school. Even The Pope & The Church of England (CoE) have not publicly endorsed homosexuality because they regard it against the teachings of Bible and have so far resisted the temptation to do so despite pressure from influential figures such as Elton John etc. But since there is separation of state and religion in the UK/West, the society in general accepts it and tolerates it even if many Christians/Britons themselves are not entirely comfortable with the concept of homosexuality.

Very disappointing to read this from you, Golden Asif. No, it is NOT OK to regard homosexuality as abhorrent and sinful. The pope or the Church of England not endorsing homosexuality does not mean we should live in the Stone Age.
it is abhorrent and sinful to consider our fellow human beings abhorrent and sinful just because they have a different lifestyle that does not harm anyone.

Religion needs to be reformed. Out with hateful messages. Whether it be the Gita, Bible or Quran, any passage that preaches hate and refers to people as sinners and being abhorrent for being who they are, should be removed. The mosques, temples and churches shoukd be held accountable when such hate crimes using religion as justification are committed.

There was one liberal muslim here who called the alternate behavior abhorrent and sinful. And uses the example of pope and church of England to justify his stance. Actually this pope has toned down the language and called for love for all human beings.
But let us grant that the Religious Right in the west is bigoted towards this alternate lifestyle. And preaches that such behavior is sinful and abhorrent. But you won't find Moderates in the West using such language. And you certainly won't find liberals engaging in tbis divisive manner.
The reality is that liberal muslims think like the Religious Right christians. So is it any wonder that the Religious Right among muslims take it one step further?

Gun control (which lies at the heart of these mass shootings) instead of fear mongering should be the main focus of the republicans. Otherwise it is only a matter of time before we see another tragedy unfold in America.
