Re: Observations in Lahore....
you are talking about the past then, as I am about the present. What happened centuries ago does not help pakistan in functioning on a basic level. To me, what good is lahore when the basics are not reliable. i mean you can't even get water, let alone clean water in most niebourhoods on a regular basis for starters. what is so great about that?
no no..but wait. there is the shahi mosque in lahore that was built a few hundred years ago.
maybe our perspectives are different, I was thinking from a visiting perspective. I would still rather visit lahore than islamabad, just ike I would rather visit newyork city than ponca city. more to see, more to do, etc
:)

I see. I just want pakistan to WORK just for the common man. I only see it happening in Islamabad. Thats all.

Re: Observations in Lahore…
Let’s compare it with Karachi - because I have not been to Lahore …
1. Police looks like daakooos.
Tell me about it. Karachi Police is made up of daakoos. Atleast, it only LOOKS like there…
2. Mullahs rule. They can shutdown an entire city by calling on junior and intern Mullahs.
In Karachi, MQM takes the major responsibility. Jamaties baychaaraY were ousted in mid 80’s ![]()
3. Roads have not been repaired since British Rule.
Roads? In karachi? A rarity since british rule (except for few that can be counted on fingers)
4. There are too many people and they are everywhere. Walking around some markets is like playing Dodge Ball where you are dodging bodies.
Karachi beats Lahore hands down buddy… The most populated city than Lahore. The more dynamic in this regard as well…
5. Traffic is like a 3-D video game where objects come at you from all angles. Animals and veichles co-exist.
True for karachi and I guess for the whole country as well..
6. Dirt and smog can be seen rising from miles away.
same here dost ![]()
Yeh GuN(m)bad-e-khaashaak, yeh miTi yeh balaayeN
kiouN beech saRak par Tehalti haiN yeh gaaYeN ![]()
7. Driver paid a tula 100 rupees to get out of a traffic violation.
man! WoW… In karachi, I saw people bargaining on a ciggerte all alone ![]()
8. Village had the best food in town and they have a guy with dholki/harmonium who sings Attah ullah Eisa Hailwi songs on demand.
I am not sure about the guy but Variety is the known thing in foods in Karachi as well… Every city of Pakistan is unique in this case… Go to Peshawar and you get the best chappali kabaabs :halo:
9. I felt clastrophobic everywhere.
Drive/Fly down to Karachi and the feeling is mutual.
Re: Observations in Lahore....
islamabad is a bland, dull, boring, city, with about as much personality as sioux falls, south dakota. There is no way islamabad can be compared to lahore. It simply does not have teh character, the personality and history..
I was surprised that there were no toilets in Islamabad...
But I did love th smell of islamabad, very clean and different than lahore..but still luv ma lahore!!!
Re: Observations in Lahore....
no seriously, it has become a repetitive anthem to call islamabad out and paint it as some sort of a place to stay away from.
I would never say it was a place to stay away from or bad, but it is deff different htan Lahore.. not at all bad/good, but just different..we were out and about on August 14th, we went to Jinnah Super and Peshawamore..and it was very quiet, barely anybody else out there. The hotel we stayed at, Hotel Java, was pretty nice.. it was my first time staying at a hotel in Pakistan ever... i would love to spend a few more days there, but it's not someplace i can imagine staying for a long time or living..
Re: Observations in Lahore…
…Like I said the whole Indian subcontinent is like that ![]()
Re: Observations in Lahore…
So people GO behind bushes:confused:
Re: Observations in Lahore…
Ok, they didn’t have commodes but they had flushes (what i believe they call the toilets where one has to squat.. “flush” )
Re: Observations in Lahore…
A bit of topic, but you guys should check out this new building in Lahore… Park towers, very beautifully made. They have a panoramic view of the building which is incredible. Just take a look at the residential atrium, which realy gorgeous! Its enough to make someone cinsdering buying a little place in Pakistan.

Re: Observations in Lahore....
with population explosion in Lahore if we didn't have those underpasses, we'd be fk'ed.
Hain? Roman, you getting fk'ed was the reason for population explosion. :D

and it is wrong of you to compare the personality and culture of a city that is only 40 years old to that of a city that is 500 year old or more.
