Hameed reveals he was offered £100,000

The News of the World has published a host of new allegations in the match-fixing scandal, including the suggestion that the ICC are investigating an unnamed fourth Pakistan player, while Yasir Hameed has told the newspaper that he was asked by a bookmaker to help fix a Test for £100,000 but turned down the money.

Hameed, who played in two of the recent Tests against England, allegedly told the newspaper “almost every match” has been fixed and has slammed his team-mates’ actions. “They’ve been caught. Only the ones that get caught are branded crooks,” he told the newspaper. "They were doing it [fixing] in almost every match.

“God knows what they were up to. Scotland Yard was after them for ages. It makes me angry because I’m playing my best and they are trying to lose.”

However, ICC sources close to the investigation have told Cricinfo that they are unaware of any such approach made to Hameed, and as a consequence, the player himself is in breach of the Anti-Corruption Code of Conduct, as laid out in Article 2.4.2. “Failing to disclose to the ACSU (without undue delay) full details of any approaches or invitations received by the Player or Player Support Personnel to engage in conduct that would amount to a breach of the Anti-Corruption Code.”

“They are not aware of anything like this happening,” Yawar Saeed, Pakistan’s manager, told Cricinfo. He also added that since the end of the Test series, Hameed had left the Pakistan squad, and he did not know of his whereabouts.

Also revealed in an eight-page special produced by the newspaper, they outline the charge sheets against Salman Butt, Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Amir who have been questioned by police twice this week since the initial story broke last weekend with the trio facing 23 charges between them.

And in relation to the Pakistan High Commissioner’s belief that the players were “set up” the News of the World will publish emails, receipts and CCTV evidence that prove the meetings between the undercover reporter and Mazhar Majeed were filmed before the Lord’s Test.

A Scotland Yard spokesman confirmed to Cricinfo that no new arrests have been made in relation to the ongoing case.

No they dont wanna ban Pakistani team, but yes they hv got all sorts of masala and now the more these crooks get near to be proven guilty, the more this tabloid will earn..
When we've given them halwa in the plate, why would they not enjoy it!!

Well, some of us have a holier than thou attitude and we need a solid proof, we need proceedings, we need evidence in the court of law since what we have seen and heard so far is not enough.

For jokers who live in a text book world, supposedly NOTW will have something for you tomorrow..please prepare your excuses beforehand.

So fayz, according to you what we have seen and heard is enough. Care to elaborate on that? Lets suppose you are a lawyer for the plaintiff. how would you make a case in this instance based on a video with no dates/time. Wont you wait for a while till you are certain that the videos are dated before tearing apart the defendant. Because if you don't you are recipe for disaster for your firm.

I think what I have seen and heard in Salman Butt's press conference is more than enough. Unfortunately in real world you don't always get hard facts in all the cases in the court..in that case you have to consider the intangibles.

You have been watching cricket for 20 odd years, out of all people here you should know better that the No balls bowled by Amir don't look unintentional. The runout missed by Kamran (other video) is questionable...these are intangibles only cricketers can tell..Imran Khan and Ramiz would have been hesitant in making the remarks they made if they were thinking like you..but they know cricket and didn't hide behind the technicalities of the legal proceedings.

If you were representing in a jury, god help the victim because you wouldn't have a clue about body language and the words used by the culprit. Salman Butt should have said a BIG NO when he was asked if the allegations are true (that is what the whole nation wanted), instead he got all technical like you and said prove it. That's a shame for him and people whom he betrayed.

I agree with you in general, our players may get away because of technicalities from law/ICC. You should also remember the Hansie Cronje saga though, him and SA board kept saying he is innocent until much later when he admitted. Though Salman Butt did the opposite (did not deny it). Had he denied it bluntly many people wouldn't have believed him still.

Pakistan batsman denies he alleged match-rigging

Pakistan test opener Yasir Hameed denied on Saturday he had told a British newspaper that his team mates had been involved in match-rigging.

The News of the World newspaper has quoted Hameed as saying that some of his team mates were fixing “almost every match”.

“I have given no interview to this newspaper. So the question of my saying my team mates fix matches does not arise,” Hameed told Geo News in Karachi.

“I am deeply disturbed right now with this development. I am trying to speak to the Pakistan manager to tell him this is wrong.”

"Asif - how many matches has he played and how many have I played? I’ve played 80 matches and he’s played around 50. He has four mansions. Where did they come from?

Hameed also dramatically claimed that another game had been thrown. Talking about fixed matches, he said: “The ICC Champion Trophy, Rose Bowl, we lost a match against West Indies, do you remember?” That was a semi-final game in 2004 at The Rose Bowl in Southampton.
