Re: Tunisia?
I went there with friends a few years ago, i too stayed in the resort area of Sousse, which is largely the tourtist area of Tunisia with its blue waters and white sands.
Our accomodation was just minutes from the beach, the hotel ( 3 star) was nice and our rooms were sufficeintly equipped with the necessary essentials. Our package too was all inclusive as good restaurants are scarce and the service is poor. The food of choice on most menu’s we saw was, Couscous, vegetable stew, fish and meat dishes. Tip: avoid tap water and salads.
At the time we went a few years ago, alot of hotels were being built and in every direction we looked the area looked a building site. Unfortunately away from the coast, the region seems quite dull and there’s not much to really see and do and as a result i got a little bored after just a few days. There are a few several interesting sights such as the medina market and a few archeological museums that have a mixture of arab and roman architecture/ruins of days gone by.
A plus is distances in tunisia are relatively short and public transport is good, so if you have plenty of time and have little luggage, travelling on a combination of buses and taxis is the effective way of seeing the region. To know: the taxi service is similarly run as in Saudi Arabia, that drivers call out their destination and stop and set off again once they have the full compliment of passengers (five). This we found very frustrating. 
As the above poster said, we didn’t seem many mosques and people there dont really pray, being that its largely a tourist resort and people prefer to stay at the beach and sip marguerritas.
As for the nightlife, there wasn’t much of it, just a few bars and clubs that for the most part were empty and played bland music. 
As for shopping, i took some £500 ($1000) with me, but i was dissapointed that there’s not much there you would want to buy, they have the usual fake leather goods and brass/metal work which for the most part was pretty ghastly. :yukh: Then theres the carpets and ceramics and woodwork.
