No Sleeves

Re: No Sleeves

My families fine with it too, never really been an issue since the trend has been going on for a bit and my cousins all usually wear their sari blouses and kameezes with out sleeves if it looks better for the outfit that they're wearing. i usually don't wear them, have just one or twice but i personally just find that half sleeves suit me more otherwise my arms look too thin... its more about feeling comfortable in them and wearing something thats flattering for me..

theres nothing wrong with it if it looks good on you, even with bigger arms. even half sleeves with bigger arms looks completely fine in my opinion, i dont think they need to be covered completely just because one persons arms are bigger than the other, everyone has their own built IMO

My mum thinks this way, she likes capped sleeves but not sleeveless on me, says she doesn't like to see the armpits or something but it's not like I walk round with my arms over my head all day :D

I wear sleeveless in the summer anyway and so do a lot of the girls in my family, it's not seen as much of a big deal amongst most of the ppl we know..

Re: No Sleeves

I'm suprised it's such a big deal today. If you look back at pictures from Karachi and Lahore in the 1960's, it seems like every guest at every formal event was dressed in a saree with a sleeveless blouse. How is it that 50 years later, it's just starting to come back in style?

Re: No Sleeves

My family would not create an issue on it. but personally I dont like sleeveless shirts. I prefer those cute half ones which atleast cover the armpits and shoulders.. but my arms are not toned or perfect. but in Pakistan ppl hav this perception if you are not FAIR as SNOW WHITE or ur arms are as think as BARBIE DOLL you shudnot wear half sleeves. WTH! bunch of hypocrites yaar!

Re: No Sleeves

i dont like sleeveless shirts...i would never wear them...

Ditto.

Exactly, Fatima Jinnah always wore a sleeveless blouse w/ her saris. I think back then Pakistan was a lot more liberal, elegant, sophisticated and not judgemental. sigh

I have no idea but maybe because in those 50 years many Pakistanis immigrated to Western countries and became much more conservative as a way to "preserve" their culture and values.

You alwyas hear about families who are so super strict in the western countries, while their counterparts in Pakistan are much more liberal.

I agree.

But I still think its quite odd to see women whose mothers probably walked around in sleeveless sarees forbidding their daughters from doing same decades later.

Re: No Sleeves

^ agree!

that's interesting...I have yet to see anyone like that...Then again, I did some things in my teens and early 20s that i wouldn't want my daughter or son doing. :D So maybe thats their thinking?

some of these women in the picture shouldn’t be wearing sleeveless with those arms!!!

its simple..if you can pull it off and confidently wear em…do it! don’t fidget while trying to pull something off you are not comfortable with.

Re: No Sleeves

I do wear sleeveless.. not all the time, but once in a while! My parents my not have liked it but my inlaws are cool with it :)

Re: No Sleeves

Ok, the celebs have gone a step further! It is Off The Shoulder, now!

Would you go that far?

Re: No Sleeves

^ Pakistani celebs have gone even further than that - halter necks with pluuuunging neck lines!

Re: No Sleeves

i don't like one shoulder naked style. its better to wear both shoulders sleeveless ;)

Re: No Sleeves

For me,sleeveless is not cool and not happening...

Re: No Sleeves

if a christian or non- muslim is wearing sleevless, its completely fine. sleevless for muslims are nice in the home, infront of hubby or within a segregated environment. sleevless for muslims outside of the home in front of un- related guys...........well thats not for me to judge.

i dont care if muslims wear sleeveless outside infront of non- mehrums cos i dont judge people n i wouldnt attack them for wearing it. but its wrong if those muslims try to justify it as being within the boundaries of islam. cos it isnt. if in doubt, read the quran.

Re: No Sleeves

Yeah sleevless is fine with me...but its more about the style of teh kameez then anything else, if the kameez loooks good with sleeveless then yes and if it looks better with sleeves then ill wear it with sleeves.

Re: No Sleeves

I don't mind them, but my fat arms do :(. And my mom does (even though her older sister WORE sleeveless back in 70s). For mommy darling, it is about how the overall culture changed. Also, my mom and khalas didn't go out without at least a chadar.

Whateves, I will get to it once my inherently fat arms tone up. And for that, I GOT TO LIFT WEIGHTS!!!

Ok, that's it. I am going to quit cardio and just do muscle training.
