and also that red coat from target that wendy bought....

now i want sweaters or coat for my baby lol
weather will be not much cold here but we do use heaters for a month....

Re: New Moms Shopping Saga

Akmoti, in the gulf you need to know where to shop ;)

Sgc, will you pls share with me when stores have their sale and also if there is anything worthwhile online. Shopping with no kid = awesome, with one kid = doable. Two kids = next to impossible.
Now it is more like grab and go.

Re: New Moms Shopping Saga

Mirage , go through the list of must haves for baby thread. Since it is going to be hot in pak make sure you have lots of cotton onesies.

First kid its all about the shashkas , and dressing up and all of that, second kid it's all practicality. My poor second kid. I bought so many dress up outfits for my first born. I didn't do that for my second but I will once he starts sitting , so much easier to dress them up then.

Re: New Moms Shopping Saga

automne, mine will arrive in sheer winters, i.e. the mid of january. I think I will need lots of blankets and beddings. And I am already excited about them. A little sad that the baby wont be able to enjoy lighter clothes i.e. cotton much in the beginning. I guess I will have to pile up the knit wears :hmmm:

Re: New Moms Shopping Saga

Awww...... but cant you just adjust with reuse of most of the eldest's things for the youngers by then? I mean the beddings, the blankets and even the cribs etc, cant they be just reused? clothes is some other matter but even clothes can be pretty reused for the next ones if the gender is same.

Re: New Moms Shopping Saga

Re: New Moms Shopping Saga

Mirage , I am thinking along the following lines:

Getting baby essentials as a priority that will include:
Baby carrier or Pram along with car seat
Baby Cot
Mattress , bedding
Baby Blanket for the cot and also a lighter one for the baby pram ( for when we out)
changing mat
Baby gro's perhaps 3-4 of them.
Formal baby clothing for the first month. Not more then one or two.
Baby monitor
Baby bath seat
Nappies, toiletries
Feeding bottle, just one incase I struggle with BF
A tiny stuffed toy to use when baby becomes a month old inshallah.
A baby bag.

**Rest of the things, I plan to buy once the baby arrives inshallah:
**baby sling
educational toys
more feeding bottles
clothes.

Re: New Moms Shopping Saga

Do you live in UK?

Re: New Moms Shopping Saga

CB, I am happy that you are not looking much forward to the bottles. my mom just advised me the same thing today: not to rely on bottles. But I am just afraid what if. You list is good and I guess I am going to take big help from it, but why a baby toy this early? Does a month old really get the idea of a toy even :hmmm: And what is a baby monitor?

Have you started your shopping as yet? how much?

Re: New Moms Shopping Saga

mirage i live in middle east.....but these brands are available here n are super expensive even on sales....

Re: New Moms Shopping Saga

Mirage, I am positively keen on BF.. unless due to some reason i am not able to , in which case one bottle will suffice until i can go out and shop more. but orginally i am hoping that i will inshallah be able to BF.

Baby monitors are like walky talkey kind of a thing. you can keep one gadget with the baby. while keep the other with you. then you can freely roam about in the home even if the baby is sleeping peacefully in his cot upstairs .. when he wakes up, you will be able to hear his noise and in some monitors they even have a camera , you can keep an eye on the baby too.
Its very helpful considering that I am alone and if I am working in the kitchen and baby is upstairs it will hard to hear his voice . So baby monitor will help.

Regards the baby toy.. I didnt have it in mind initially.. but all the nurses/scans have told me baby is hyper active mashallah and i was talking to this group of new moms and four of them told me that they needed something to keep the baby's attention ! so i thought i will get a tiny little softie that he will get used to .. but its not a necessity really.. i will only buy something if i genuinely need it ..

I havnt started shopping yet .. wanna buy the Baby Carrier and cot first .. then closer to the time I will buy clothing and other stuff inshallah.. Baby monitors arent very expensive , we can get one here in £10 .. so am gonna get that stuff perhaps towards the end of the year inshallah ...

Re: New Moms Shopping Saga

lalala the end of the year positively means SALE as well

I am so loving the idea of baby monitor CB.

I dont think I am going to buy a cot any time sooner CB. I would want my baby with me. My bed is enough for the two of us  Not before the baby is atleast big enough to roll over and there is a danger of it falling off the bed. I want to enjoy it being with me as long as I can. Once separated, oh well. Just imagine! after they reach 3 they dont really want to stick and cling to you anymore. Do they?

Re: New Moms Shopping Saga

PS: shouldnt there be a couple of bottles, just incase. You wont be running after washing and sterilizing one every time.

Re: New Moms Shopping Saga

^i didnt buy bottles for my baby as i was more interested in breasfeeding....but when my baby was 1.5month old...i needed a bottle as my supply was low....i bought tommee tippee closure to nature(suggested by one of the guppan)....baby got used to it in 2days...then i fed him from bottle for week....then back to breastfeeding...

so buy when u think you need it....
and it should be BPA free...

Re: New Moms Shopping Saga

Mirage, quick thing:

In Paksitan usually you guys have large beds so its a good option to keep baby with you. However purely out of child safety, new parents are advised to let child sleep in a separate space to avoid risk of cot death.
- Firstly if you are sleeping and by mistake your pillow or quilt or sheets could suffocate the child.
- Similarly, a child needs healthy air to breath in , sometimes we dont realize our breath intake near the baby for longer hours can actually reduce their oxygen.

- Newborns cant control their body heat like we elders can .. hence you never know while sleeping you might end up holding your baby and transfering your body heat. this can cause serious safety issues for the baby.

That is why it is always highly advised to give the child enough space specially in teh first few months. Letting the child share your bed is a good option only if you have considerable distance between you and your child and none of your pillows, body, quilts or blankets or sheets can accidently cover the baby at night.

you know mirage , I was reading the other day that since babies dont have a strong temperature control in the body in the initial few months , mothers are asked to keep an eye on how the child is faring with heat and cold .. for that purpose even the matress that we put in the cot is a breathable one so that heat doesnt get trapped to make the baby uncomfortable or become any hazard.

regards the bottles , you are right.. i have thought about it and spoken to a midwife about it too.. she said majority chances are that I will be able to BF inshallah .. one bottle will suffice for then just so we dont have to make the run in an emergency .. if for example after a few days we are still struggling with BF and we are left with no options but to bottle feed then we can go and buy a proper amount of bottles and other stuff needed.

Re: New Moms Shopping Saga

that makes sense CB and breaks my heart already :frowning:

lol, isnt it all just so strange, this possessiveness of motherhood. I dont know. I will have to prepare myself for the idea of separate cot :bummer:

Re: New Moms Shopping Saga

Aww come here you :hugz:

you are right this first time mom feeling is just too overpowering but I guess at the same time you gotta balance it out with whats best for the baby .. coz eventually this tussle between motherhood and whats best for the child will continue through a lifetime ! I remember my mother having to send me away to boarding school, as a mother she didnt want to .. but as a caretaker she felt it would benefit me and hence she took the step ..

Similarly my friend’s son is very timid and as a mother she always feels the instinct to over protect the baby .. but then as a caretaker she feels he wouldnt learn to protect himself or be strong if she doesnt expose him to various elements in life ..

So yeah , we gotta get used to balance our thought process :hinna:

Re: New Moms Shopping Saga

Can you tell me where to shop in Canada? My bro is in Toronto nd I m in middle east. We don't get good prices even in sales..so I was wondering that I can shop online nd get stuff delivered to his apartment. He will be visiting us soon.
