So I bought this little Toshiba laptop which I am in love with, on a pre-black Friday sale for like 500 dollars and I am really reluctant to return it. I have the weekend to decide, but still.
So, I come home, and I look up the specs to make sure it has an ethernet card in it and somehow I guess the store didn’t advertise this thing has a 1.3 ghz processor. It is a pentium intel processor, so I picked up thinking, ok, well that’s a solid processor. I didn’t think to check the speed, but apparently, all these small netbooks are that slow.
So, my question is, for a person like me - is 1.3 going to be too slow?
I predominantly use my comp for:
emails
web surfing - gs, checking shopping ads, playing music from pakmusic and other such sites, i’ll have like 10 windows open at once while i’m working
powerpoints
word doc
that’s like 99% of my usage. Sure, from time to time, I’ll need to use excel.
What? There is a line of 30 people already waiting outside Best Buy!!!
I'm not getting that laptop.
Plus, I already have two laptops. What I'm looking for is a smaller laptop that I can travel with and take to work with me in a purse, as I do a lot of walking around at work.
But is so lightweight, which is the appeal. Otherwise, what would I do with another laptop, when I already have 2. The problem with both is they're ultra bulky and so difficult to carry in a purse hanging from your shoulder and they take up so much room in my carry-on.
And the other netbooks with their atom processors are an embarrassment, although maybe worth it for 120 dollars...
Processor is just fine.
Most process intense applications are movies/games and to some extent voice processing.
But dont tell me its that solidstate harddrive 9 inch screen computer?? cuz those should be some whare around 300$.
PCG i think what everyone is saying is for that PRICE its not a good deal , U should have gone for something cheaper…
As far as speed is concerned for the regular stuff it won’t be a problem , excpet with 10 windows going i think its gonna crash a lot maybe…just saying i dunno for sure ***
So these netbooks are not built for serious multitasking, like responding to emails and on GS and on GS chat and writing a document for work, and making a powerpoint all at the same time?
Because that is how PCG works.
Sheyn you’re not even in IT.
Besides, I normally spend over 1500 for a laptop, because I always have to go run and buy one last minute and I take what I get. So 500 is a bargain given my purchasing history.
I could pay less for a smaller netbook, but the processor is weaker, and there is way less room to work with…
This is more like a step up from a netbook. It’s like having a regular laptop except smaller…so for me the value is worth it.
My concern is the 1.3 ghz processor. What kinds of things will I not be able to do with that? I keep reading 1.3’s aren’t great for multitasking, and definitely will not work for gaming. But I’m not a gamer. I’ll have a bunch of windows open at the same time, and it is muchos important I can play my youtube videos and hulu dot com, because honestly, I don’t have a TV.
Can those functions work fine with a 1.3 ghz processor? If I need a higher processor, then it’s useless even looking for these tiny laptops, because all their processors are slower than the ones found in bulkier models, and I want to avoid bulky at this point. I already have a bulky laptop.
PCG its an Ok deal . Mean I won't jump out of joy , but its fine . It has 64 Bit Windows 7 , so try to upgrade it to 4 GB of RAM so it can utilize all of it and smoother surfing for you . 1.3 Ghz of processor is enough for the things you will be using it for . Browsing Internet takes more of your RAM and less processing .
It's not going to affect you speed and multitasking. 3gb ram is sufficient for your surfing habits. But (for the third time) I would not call it a bargain. For 500 buckeroos I would be looking for a top of the line notebook esp since it's Kala Jumma tomorrow
